A 30-year-old is dead and police are hunting his killer after a fight broke out last night on a busy section of Chapel Street in inner Melbourne. Police don’t believe it was a random attack and are searching for a number of people who may have been involved.

00:00In the early hours of Easter Sunday, Chapel Street turned into a crime scene.
00:07A 30-year-old Michelin man was found on the street with multiple stab wounds following a fight.
00:13I thought he got hit by a car, but then when I saw the blood, I'm like, oof, it's bad.
00:18He was bleeding so bad.
00:20The man was taken to hospital, but died en route.
00:23It's suspected there's probably up to six people involved in what's an altercation
00:27that started at one end of the street and has worked its way down to this point here.
00:31This witness was enjoying a night out with friends when the scene unfolded.
00:35I just walked in and the guys just ran off and I tried to help him.
00:40I put pressure on his wounds.
00:42Police said it was a challenge trying to cordon off the crowds as they spilled out of nightclubs.
00:47Blocks of Chapel Street were closed to the public until mid-afternoon.
00:52Police say the victim was known to them and it's believed the attack wasn't random.
00:56Police seized a firearm from the scene, but they're not yet sure how it's connected to the incident.
01:02It will undergo testing to see whether or not it might be fake.
01:05But police are hoping that local businesses in the area will provide vision
01:10that might help them understand the movement of the alleged offenders in the lead up to the attack.
01:15I think that the public should be just as shocked as all of us to see those sort of things,
01:20so I'd hope that they come forward.
01:22Local businesses say they're left worried by yet another violent incident at the popular nightlife strip.
