00:00:00Welcome to Match of the Day.
00:00:30The fight for European places is our focus tonight and for the rest of the season.
00:00:53Five games on the way.
00:00:55Three former Leicester players in the studio, Dion Dublin and Martin Keown,
00:00:59will be thinking outside the fox.
00:01:02OK, let's try and explain how things are shaping up.
00:01:06It's complicated, so we won't cover every possible permutation.
00:01:10But here's the top half of the table at the start of the day.
00:01:14The Premier League has earned a bonus fifth spot for next season's Champions League
00:01:18by having the best collective results this season across UEFA's competitions.
00:01:24Spurs or Manchester United will qualify if they win the Europa League.
00:01:29The two Europa League places go to sixth place and the FA Cup winners.
00:01:33But if the Cup winners also qualify for Europe by other means,
00:01:37and three of the four semi-finalists currently sit in the top seven,
00:01:41then the Europa League spot goes to the next highest placed team.
00:01:45There would also be a third Europa League place if Chelsea win the Conference League
00:01:49and don't finish in the top five.
00:01:51The Conference League spot is currently held by Newcastle for winning the League Cup,
00:01:56but if Newcastle qualify for the Champions League or Europa League,
00:02:00the Conference League place goes to the highest placed team that hasn't reached Europe.
00:02:05However, if Chelsea win the Conference League and finish in sixth,
00:02:10Newcastle finish in the top five,
00:02:12and the FA Cup winners sit outside the top six,
00:02:15there will be three teams in the Europa League and no Conference League place.
00:02:20Simple, really.
00:02:21Well, that's all we've got time for this week.
00:02:25No, let's start with the Champions League race.
00:02:28After going out at the quarterfinal stage against PSG in midweek,
00:02:32Aston Villa turned their attention back to qualifying for next season's competition.
00:02:36Newcastle were looking good for their spot.
00:02:38They put five past Crystal Palace in midweek to move into third.
00:02:44Another exciting target for Newcastle.
00:02:47They've the chance to go up to third by beating Crystal Palace.
00:02:51Trippier.
00:02:53And now Murphy.
00:02:55Oh, it's gone in!
00:02:56It's 1-0 Newcastle.
00:02:59They're not settling for one.
00:03:00And Bonds.
00:03:01It deflects in!
00:03:04Absolutely rampant Newcastle.
00:03:06Barnes and still Barnes.
00:03:103-0.
00:03:13Murphy's delivery's on the money!
00:03:15And they do have a fourth!
00:03:18LaCroix loses it to Joe Linton.
00:03:21Isaac!
00:03:22That is just so sweet!
00:03:24And Newcastle have a full hand.
00:03:27Steve Bauer was at Villa Park.
00:03:32A meeting of two of the form teams in the Premier League
00:03:35who are gathering real momentum.
00:03:37Both have picked up 15 points from the last 18.
00:03:41As Newcastle bid to become only the second side to win a league game here this season.
00:03:46Villa have actually won nine of their last ten games in all competitions.
00:03:50Unai Emery freshens up with four changes from the week.
00:03:53As Watkins, Asensio, Martsen and Mings all start.
00:03:58Anana, Rashford and Dinja are all substitutes.
00:04:01Newcastle simply don't change the winning formula.
00:04:04They've won six successive games with exactly the same team starting everyone.
00:04:09As is the case again today.
00:04:10Only Mo Salah has more league goals than Alexander Izaak.
00:04:14While Jacob Murphy has netted three in his last four league matches.
00:04:21So it is Newcastle.
00:04:22We've won 13 of our last 17 league games.
00:04:26Who get us underway in the West Midland Sunshine.
00:04:30And what looks a pivotal game in the race for the Champions League places.
00:04:34And here's McGinn.
00:04:45Watkins stretching his legs but the engine that is Sandro Tonale
00:04:49is back to clear for Newcastle.
00:04:51Only as far as Tielemans.
00:04:54And then the shot deflected and in!
00:04:5734 seconds!
00:04:59Oli Watkins with the slice of luck.
00:05:06With the very early blow for Aston Villa.
00:05:10What a start!
00:05:13Well, Newcastle looked as though they'd cleared it there with Tonale.
00:05:18But Watkins got back, got onside.
00:05:21But his effort took that wicked deflection off Sherrod.
00:05:25Totally deceived Nick Pope.
00:05:27No chance for him.
00:05:28But Villa will take the helping hand.
00:05:31An explosive start.
00:05:34Villa 1, Newcastle 0.
00:05:36Jason Tindall still in charge.
00:05:39As Eddie Howell continues on the road to recovery.
00:05:44Little flick from McGinn.
00:05:48Watkins had a sense here running ahead of him.
00:05:50He's going alone here.
00:05:51Watkins!
00:05:51Oh!
00:05:53Inches away from 2-0.
00:05:55Well, he caught that sweetly.
00:05:59Direct, confident, flew past Pope.
00:06:03He says in his programme notes today he's still angry at Tuesday's aggregate scoreline.
00:06:07He wants his team to use it as motivation today.
00:06:10Camara up ahead of Joe Linton.
00:06:15Livremanto fouled by Boubacar Camara.
00:06:19In from Trippier.
00:06:28Byrne beaten by Mings.
00:06:30Swung in by Harvey Barnes, great delivery, and it's squeezed through.
00:06:41And Fabian Scherr has equalised for Newcastle.
00:06:46Their top-scoring defender in the Premier League era.
00:06:52And he's levelled it up after 18 minutes.
00:06:56This was an inviting delivery.
00:07:01He's definitely onside, sure.
00:07:04He got away from Martin, and he managed to get it past Martinez.
00:07:08Villa 1, Newcastle 1.
00:07:11Terrific entertainment so far.
00:07:13Here comes Villa again, Martin.
00:07:18It's a super pull-back, should have been 2-1 from Asensio.
00:07:21Rodgers can't keep it in.
00:07:23Oh, Marco Asensio.
00:07:25With eight goals already in a Villa shirt,
00:07:27you would have put an awful lot there on Marco Asensio.
00:07:30Sweeping home his ninth.
00:07:33I think his manager would as well, he can't believe it.
00:07:40Martin.
00:07:40Asensio caught by Gimurais.
00:07:52I think Asensio might have made the most of that contact.
00:07:55Definitely are coming together here,
00:07:57but perhaps not as much as Asensio made out.
00:08:04Asensio's delivery.
00:08:05Oh!
00:08:06Against the woodwork again from Watkins.
00:08:10Kamara.
00:08:15Twice he's hit the woodwork,
00:08:16Ollie Watkins just couldn't quite guide it inside the post.
00:08:24Trippier.
00:08:29Murphy's cross.
00:08:30Joe Linton has found Isak.
00:08:35There's no flag.
00:08:40Tonali to hit one.
00:08:41Oh, Martinez saw that late.
00:08:44He needed to touch it around the post.
00:08:47That was heading to the bottom corner from the Italian.
00:08:51Had to get across quickly.
00:08:52The Villa goalkeeper.
00:08:53The Villa goalkeeper.
00:08:54The Villa goalkeeper.
00:08:59Rodgers.
00:09:02Watkins.
00:09:04Oh, is he caught by Cher?
00:09:07Jared Gillett's having a look, having a think.
00:09:09And he said goal kick.
00:09:16Michael Salisbury and VAR will check it.
00:09:19Let's have a look.
00:09:21Cher's leg does go out.
00:09:24Michael Salisbury and VAR has had a look.
00:09:27And he's decided that's not a clear and obvious error.
00:09:29Such a feel-good factor around this football club.
00:09:33Nine years ago this week, they were relegated from the Premier League.
00:09:37Courtesy of a Marcus Rashford goal.
00:09:39Watkins.
00:09:41Martin goes on outside him.
00:09:42It's Martin!
00:09:49It's his first Premier League goal.
00:09:54And it's one at the halt end.
00:09:56That restores Villa's lead.
00:09:59Lovely finish in the Dutchman too.
00:10:03They have been knocking at Newcastle's door.
00:10:06And they've found their way through.
00:10:09Watkins saw the run.
00:10:11And a terrific finish from the full-back.
00:10:15Really enjoyed that moment.
00:10:17Villa 2, Newcastle 1.
00:10:25Rams up against Trippier.
00:10:29Oh, and squeezed in by Tielemans.
00:10:34Yuri Tielemans.
00:10:37Did he get the final touch?
00:10:39I think that's a Dan Byrne own goal.
00:10:43Let's watch this again.
00:10:44But I'm pretty sure Byrne has turned this into his own goal.
00:10:48Yeah, it's Dan Byrne.
00:10:51Tielemans actually couldn't make any contact.
00:10:55Oh, that's really unfortunate.
00:10:56And after six successive wins, this is a litmus test now for Newcastle.
00:11:06Here come Villa again.
00:11:08Rodgers to seal it.
00:11:09Brilliant from Pope.
00:11:11Heading away by Livramento.
00:11:12Back from Ramsey.
00:11:14Rodgers.
00:11:15Inanna.
00:11:16Goodness me.
00:11:20What a hit.
00:11:24And Villa in the blink of an eye have four.
00:11:27And the Holt end has erupted.
00:11:36Well, it's given away cheaply by Cher to Inanna, ironically enough.
00:11:42At the start of all this, that was brilliant from Pope.
00:11:45But look at that from Inanna.
00:11:53He couldn't have hit it better.
00:11:55Control guided that into the top corner.
00:11:59And that is two goals in one minute, 44 seconds,
00:12:03that have completely changed the complexion of the game.
00:12:09Some suggested a potential hangover
00:12:12after the Champions League quarterfinal exit.
00:12:15What a hangover.
00:12:17No tablets required.
00:12:20Watkins.
00:12:25Ramsey!
00:12:27The third time Villa have hit the woodwork.
00:12:30Well, he thought he got the fifth here, Jacob Ramsey.
00:12:33Pope was beaten.
00:12:34Could have been worse for Newcastle.
00:12:39Five Premier League wins in a row for Aston Villa.
00:12:43Third pass round in over two years.
00:12:45And this one could be hugely significant in the chase for Champions League football.
00:12:51They dominated Newcastle in the second half.
00:12:54And they've won it by four goals to one.
00:12:57What does it say about the character about your group?
00:12:59You said even you were still angry about the result on Tuesday to use it as motivation
00:13:03to go out after the week and put a performance in like today.
00:13:07Yes.
00:13:08We have to feel angry when we are not winning and of course Champions League we enjoy it.
00:13:12We did a very good work and we have to be proud of our work we did but we lost and always
00:13:18losing we have to be angry and then try to respond again every day, every day in the training session
00:13:25and then of course get the level we are achieving in the Premier League to try to play again in Europe.
00:13:34It's our objective.
00:13:34The three games in six days probably caught up with us, certainly maybe around the hour mark.
00:13:40Obviously the news of the manager not being able to lead the team is another blow and is difficult.
00:13:46You always want your leader there to lead but it's important that we rest, that he rests
00:13:52and recovers and the sooner he is better, the sooner he can come back and lead the team
00:13:57then the better for everybody.
00:13:59Does this finally say we're for a tremendous week on paper, the Champions away on Tuesday
00:14:03in an FA Cup semi-final?
00:14:05Yes, it's a big week, a really big week for us, Man City, you never know what to expect
00:14:13to be honest and we can't underestimate maybe their recent form but it's going to be a tough
00:14:21game and we've got to win the games ahead of us, you know, because we want to get in that
00:14:25Champions League spot.
00:14:27Yeah, we'll come on to Ollie Watkins.
00:14:28A huge and, well, brilliant performance I thought from Villa and a huge win.
00:14:33They were really impressive, particularly down the left.
00:14:36You could say they passed the Geordies on the left-hand side.
00:14:40That's awful.
00:14:42I don't know, it's good though because Birmingham, yeah, I get that, I get that.
00:14:46Yeah, I don't know, they must have done their homework on Newcastle.
00:14:49They must have watched them and watched them and thought, where's the weakness?
00:14:53And I think Newcastle will week down their right, Villa's left.
00:14:56And it just worked.
00:14:57They pulled defenders out of position and when that full-back was out of position, you'd
00:15:03get someone on the overlap because they'd seen that space and they forced Newcastle
00:15:08into areas and the centre-halves into areas they didn't need to be.
00:15:12I mean, you get lucky with the strike but it's all about the preparation before the game.
00:15:17He gets his goal. Look at Rodgers there, staying in that space.
00:15:21Centre-half doesn't want to be out there.
00:15:23Doesn't really want to go. Shall I not go? Shall I stay?
00:15:26Shall I call somebody back? Another chance for Villa.
00:15:30This happened time and time again.
00:15:32Oli Watkins getting into that area again, pulling players around and that leaves the space
00:15:37in behind the full-back and the centre-half.
00:15:40Ramsey comes on and nearly gets himself a goal.
00:15:42I mean, they rattled the post, they rattled the crossbar, Oli Watkins was unlucky to get
00:15:46a hat-trick and that with an overlap down the left-hand side again because there's so
00:15:51much space between full-back, centre-half and the white line.
00:15:55Look at the space.
00:15:56Starts on the white line, finds his way into the box.
00:16:00That should never happen.
00:16:01Yes, it's another deflected goal, but it was really poor and this shows you that Villa
00:16:06done their homework, Newcastle weren't at it, Villa knew exactly what to do and they really
00:16:11executed it well.
00:16:13Yeah, they most certainly did.
00:16:14Oli Watkins featured a lot in the game and in your runs there and he told Sky after the
00:16:21game that he was fuming at being left out of the Champions League matches which was quite
00:16:27unusual to hear a player actually admit that because you know it's actually the case.
00:16:31So what do you make of that?
00:16:32I'm delighted.
00:16:33You know, why wouldn't he be?
00:16:35You've been a centre-forward yourself, Gary.
00:16:36If you get left out, you're unhappy.
00:16:38Well, I never got left out.
00:16:40Gary was never left out, obviously, but you can imagine his frustration and I don't mind
00:16:45that.
00:16:45Air it, be honest and tell people what you think.
00:16:48You've taken a close look, Martin, at the distribution of Martin Ez.
00:16:53Yes, Martin Ez.
00:16:54I thought Emery was really smart with his tactics because we know that Newcastle are going to
00:16:59press really high, but the goalkeeper was picking out passes today and just, like, bypassing
00:17:05the press.
00:17:06Outstanding goalkeeper that he is, but he really surprised me.
00:17:09I mean, look at, that's how they engage you, Newcastle, all over the pitch.
00:17:12Those dogs of war in midfield, really tight all over you.
00:17:15And then, of course, he's trying to play that ball into Watkins, onto that side of the pitch
00:17:20to isolate the centre-half on that side of the pitch.
00:17:23And Oli Watkins is in, I think, is in the form of his life, the way that he's playing
00:17:28right now.
00:17:28How he only plays 20 minutes against PSG.
00:17:30Same again.
00:17:31They press in and it's like, OK, we want Shah to be on that right-hand side of the pitch.
00:17:36We're going to target him and we're going to go after him because we know that Oli Watkins
00:17:40will get the flick.
00:17:41And then Asensio makes the run into the box.
00:17:43I mean, this is a glorious opportunity.
00:17:45He's got a score, has he?
00:17:46Yeah.
00:17:46I mean, he's been a really good addition to the squad.
00:17:49So many options for the manager.
00:17:51Once again, they go tight all over the pitch.
00:17:54No rush from Watkins, from the goalkeeper to play it into Watkins.
00:17:59But eventually, this is a fantastic ball, isn't it?
00:18:01Into the channel.
00:18:02Oli Watkins.
00:18:03Yeah, willing runner, but it's smart.
00:18:06Just miss out the press.
00:18:07You get straight into this Newcastle team, which they're not used to.
00:18:11And this is the goal.
00:18:12Trippier here doesn't know whether to go tight on Rodgers.
00:18:14He doesn't want to leave the central defender in a one-on-one with Oli Watkins.
00:18:18He just chips it in.
00:18:20And then everyone's just a little bit too late.
00:18:22Lovely little ball around the corner.
00:18:23Look at this young man coming up as a full-back here.
00:18:25Martsen, lovely run.
00:18:27Nice weighted pass into his path.
00:18:29And he just tucks it away.
00:18:31It's really good football from Villa.
00:18:33And so many options from the bench.
00:18:35Ramsey, Rashford, O'Nana coming off the bench.
00:18:38Yeah, in good shape, Villa.
00:18:39Yeah, particularly a good reaction after losing out in midweek.
00:18:43Pep Guardiola spoke yesterday about watching the Champions League semi-finals at home.
00:18:48There's work to be done to avoid the same fate next season.
00:18:51Manchester City faced Everton, who had just three games left at Goodison Park.
00:18:55Your commentator, Guy Mowbrie.
00:18:59Everton's form since David Moyes returned is the fifth best in the Premier League.
00:19:05Manchester City are fifth over the whole season.
00:19:08Finish any lower and a run of 14 consecutive years in the Champions League will be over.
00:19:14The Everton line-up today is unchanged from last weekend's late one game at Nottingham Forest,
00:19:20with Armando Breuer once more preferred to Beto in attack.
00:19:23Dwight McNeil's return from injury continues to be managed.
00:19:26He's on the bench again.
00:19:28For City, four changes.
00:19:30As Stefan Ortega replaces the injured Edison.
00:19:32And Mateus Nunes, Bernardo Silva and Savino all come back in the start.
00:19:37Phil Foden is back at the substitute.
00:19:39They lost 4-0 in their first ever visit in 1900.
00:19:48And they lost 4-0 in Pep Guardiola's first ever game here as coach in January 2017.
00:19:54That was Everton's last victory over City, their only win in the last 20 meetings.
00:20:03De Bruyne.
00:20:05Familiar swinging ball from him.
00:20:08And Savino claims that he was only kept away from the ball by unfair means.
00:20:13Jeff Harrison may be briefly touched him, but certainly not enough to send him to the floor.
00:20:21Contact not sustained.
00:20:23Doesn't meet the threshold.
00:20:25That's what Darren England's just said, and he is today's VAR.
00:20:28O'Reilly to Ruben Dias.
00:20:33Once more, Bernardo Silva is way over on the right-hand side.
00:20:36All on his own.
00:20:38There's Gundogan.
00:20:41Bernardo has moved in from the wing.
00:20:43Mateus Nunes has it now.
00:20:44And he's lining up a shot.
00:20:46And it has to be saved by Pickford.
00:20:48It was going in bottom corner.
00:20:50Despite the slip as he struck.
00:20:52Mateus Nunes has never scored in the Premier League for Manchester City.
00:20:57That might be as close as he's ever come.
00:21:00He's seen his side.
00:21:02Lose six of their last dozen Premier League away games.
00:21:05As many defeats as there were in the previous 37.
00:21:09O'Brien.
00:21:11Harrison.
00:21:13Dreyer went for it.
00:21:15He didn't get it.
00:21:17Ruben Dias did.
00:21:19And diverts it behind for a corner.
00:21:23James Garner to try and find the right delivery.
00:21:27And it was Tarkovsky who heads it against the post.
00:21:30And has another go at keeping the attack alive.
00:21:34Savino hooks away.
00:21:37So for all Manchester City being in charge of the ball predominantly,
00:21:40it's Everton who've come the closer to scoring.
00:21:42And 15 of Everton's 34 Premier League goals this season have come from set pieces.
00:21:49Look how close this was to being a 16th.
00:21:52Dekore.
00:21:55Mikhelenko.
00:21:55Idrissa Garner-Gay just got stuck for a moment under his feet.
00:22:02A clip back towards Harrison.
00:22:05And Savino bars his way.
00:22:07Big shots for Amboll from the Everton fans.
00:22:11It's going to be looked at as City get on with the game.
00:22:14I don't think it was.
00:22:24Mateus Nunes.
00:22:29Bernardo Silva.
00:22:32There's Nunes.
00:22:33And he's going to come back to De Bruyne here.
00:22:38Blocked.
00:22:40By Jake O'Brien.
00:22:41It's going to be a corner with Everton fans still upset at the lack of a penalty at the other end.
00:22:48Has already been checked and cleared by Darren England.
00:22:51With the explanation that he bounces off Savino against his arm.
00:22:56So can't give one for that.
00:22:59And with Manchester City halfway to a third away game in a row without scoring.
00:23:08Bernardo Silva will be whistled against for that.
00:23:12Free kick for Everton.
00:23:20There goes Tarkovsky.
00:23:22And he's won another one.
00:23:23Saved by Ortega.
00:23:24It looked as though Brantwaite had headed that in.
00:23:29Big hand from the City keeper.
00:23:39Antega wanting to find the run of Savino.
00:23:41Tarkovsky missed it and has pulled up now.
00:23:44As he went for the ball.
00:23:45I think he's hamstring pinged.
00:23:47And yet he's given the signal already.
00:23:49He's got to go off.
00:23:51Everton losing.
00:23:52One of their biggest players in every sense.
00:23:54And off he will go to be replaced by his long-time colleague for Burnley and Everton, Michael Keane.
00:24:04Gay kept it away from Niko Gonzalez, who's now after Njai, but not quickly enough.
00:24:14Nice exchange with Decoré.
00:24:16Harrison breaking down the right.
00:24:20Clever ball behind.
00:24:21Back to Decoré.
00:24:22Decoré is trying to get close to have a go himself, which he does, and he makes Ortega save.
00:24:30And since half-time, it's only the Manchester City goalkeeper who's been forced to do any sort of action.
00:24:38Had to stop it.
00:24:39After defeating Madrid in February, Pep Guardiola said, nothing's eternal.
00:24:47We've been extraordinarily extraordinary in the past, but not anymore.
00:24:50Never will we be the old city this season.
00:24:56Mamouche.
00:24:59O'Reilly.
00:25:00That's a nice ball into Savinho.
00:25:04Mamouche.
00:25:06Mamouche is getting in range.
00:25:08Savinho will have the go.
00:25:09And Pickford makes the save.
00:25:11We didn't see shots first half.
00:25:17We're seeing them now.
00:25:19Well saved by Pickford.
00:25:22We've got eight and a half minutes of the 90 to go, then probably five or six more.
00:25:27For Everton or Manchester City to find a winner, and City's need really is pressing.
00:25:34Awkward that for Keane.
00:25:35Oh, really awkward.
00:25:36Mamouche could be in.
00:25:37Pickford has stopped him, though.
00:25:39Vital bit of goalkeeping.
00:25:43He's dug Michael Keane out.
00:25:46Done him a big favour.
00:25:48Tricky for Keane, yes, but he should have done better than that.
00:25:52And he nearly put it on a plate for Mamouche, who never really connected with his attempt to finish.
00:25:59Mamouche.
00:26:01Gets past Keane.
00:26:03Now it's Dokku.
00:26:05Dokku's touch wasn't great.
00:26:08Kovacic.
00:26:10Gundogan.
00:26:15Donado Silva.
00:26:20Telling Mateus Nunes where to go and when.
00:26:23And he's put the ball in for Nico O'Reilly to score.
00:26:27The boy could do no wrong at the moment.
00:26:30Scored against Crystal Palace last week, and now he scores at Goodison Park.
00:26:34To give Manchester City a late lead.
00:26:38Drifting forward from the left-back position into the penalty area.
00:26:41And nobody thought to look for him.
00:26:44He scored that with a striker's instinct, too.
00:26:47Nico O'Reilly has just scored a really, really important goal for Pep Guardiola's team.
00:26:53Ronaldo Silva.
00:26:58Bernardo Silva.
00:27:02Nunes.
00:27:03even Diaz has to quicken his stride
00:27:07Doku
00:27:09that's Gundogan
00:27:12couldn't complete the pirouette
00:27:14oh that's a really good finish though
00:27:16from Mateo Kovacic to finish the game
00:27:19job done for City now
00:27:21emphatically slid into the net by Kovacic
00:27:25scored his first ever goal in the Premier League
00:27:28in a 3-1 Chelsea win here
00:27:30back in 2019
00:27:32and now he has sealed
00:27:33Manchester City's victory
00:27:35on their final visit here
00:27:37Doku helped to make it
00:27:39so did Ilkay Gundogan
00:27:41maybe a bit of fortune about it
00:27:44the way it went in
00:27:45wrong luck for Everton though
00:27:47they're going down to defeat
00:27:49on home turf this afternoon
00:27:52really pleased for the game we played
00:27:55especially in the second half
00:27:56because Everton in that moment
00:27:58the run
00:27:58the results winning
00:28:01nottingham first away
00:28:03Liverpool could not win here
00:28:04Arsenal could not win
00:28:05so what they do
00:28:07they do
00:28:07magnificent
00:28:08so
00:28:09it's been with all the absence
00:28:11that we have
00:28:11the players performed really well
00:28:13we might have just run out a little bit
00:28:15of juice in the midway through the second half
00:28:17we were having to make some changes
00:28:19obviously we lost Tarkovsky
00:28:20which was a big blow to us as well
00:28:22an important time in the game
00:28:24because we'd been doing
00:28:25doing a really good job
00:28:26I thought we played really well
00:28:27for the best part of 60 minutes
00:28:28the first goal
00:28:29obviously is so important in every game
00:28:31and it comes again from your
00:28:33your left back
00:28:34who's not really a left back
00:28:35is he?
00:28:36he's not
00:28:37he's not
00:28:37he's attacking midfielder
00:28:38and when
00:28:38you know
00:28:40you have passes
00:28:41passes passes
00:28:41and can go in that position
00:28:43he arrives to the box
00:28:45unbelievably
00:28:46and you know what I find
00:28:47love him
00:28:47because they love the academy players
00:28:49so he's another player
00:28:50that can
00:28:51can help us
00:28:52he has been doing amazing
00:28:53in recent weeks
00:28:54you know
00:28:55and on top of that
00:28:56he has the technical ability
00:28:57and now also
00:28:58you know
00:28:58the feeling
00:28:59for the right timing
00:29:00to appear in the box
00:29:01and to score crucial goals
00:29:02the academy products
00:29:04you know
00:29:04are doing really well
00:29:06and we need them
00:29:06this club needs them
00:29:07yeah significant win for City
00:29:10certainly in terms of
00:29:11a Champions League spot
00:29:12Pep and Gundogan there
00:29:13both praising Nico O'Reilly
00:29:15but it wasn't just him
00:29:16it was both full backs
00:29:18that you've picked out
00:29:18certainly was
00:29:19Nunes
00:29:19gets a lot of criticism
00:29:21but I thought today
00:29:22he was quite outstanding
00:29:23along with Nico O'Reilly
00:29:25who we know
00:29:25has grabbed that opportunity
00:29:27from the youth team
00:29:28from the academy
00:29:29four goals and two assists
00:29:30they played like inverted
00:29:31full backs
00:29:32O'Reilly
00:29:33and Nunes
00:29:34and what it meant was
00:29:35it meant that
00:29:35the midfield players
00:29:37then could push up
00:29:38on the top line
00:29:38Gundogan, De Bruyne
00:29:40and that five
00:29:42was really pinning
00:29:43Everton back
00:29:44for most of the game
00:29:45they had nearly 70%
00:29:46possession
00:29:47but it was about
00:29:48getting that opportunity
00:29:49being patient
00:29:50waiting for that chance
00:29:52there's the five
00:29:53pinning Everton back
00:29:55Everton playing well
00:29:57recently but couldn't
00:29:58really get on the ball
00:29:59and Nunes gets an
00:30:00opportunity here
00:30:01edge of the box
00:30:01and he's much more aligned
00:30:03he hasn't really been
00:30:04given much opportunity
00:30:05in the team
00:30:06not playing certainly
00:30:06in his favourite position
00:30:07but here he shows
00:30:08really good confidence
00:30:09again hits that from
00:30:10distance early on
00:30:11and you thought
00:30:11okay
00:30:12let's have a look
00:30:13arms in the air
00:30:14give me the ball
00:30:15I want to play
00:30:15and they kept finding him
00:30:17we know he's got
00:30:18good pace
00:30:19so he drives
00:30:20forward with the ball
00:30:21but here he plays
00:30:23intelligently
00:30:24slows his run down
00:30:25then suddenly makes
00:30:25a darting run
00:30:26lovely ball from Silva
00:30:27De Bruyne
00:30:28edge of the box
00:30:29on another day
00:30:30really should be
00:30:31putting that away
00:30:32and that was
00:30:32really good play
00:30:33the other side
00:30:34you've got O'Reilly
00:30:36who's playing
00:30:37exceptionally well
00:30:38Mamouchi's probably
00:30:39the pick of the
00:30:40of the new signing
00:30:41Savino
00:30:42in that little pocket
00:30:44playing as a wide
00:30:45player today
00:30:45with that sort of
00:30:46normal canvas
00:30:47that we expect
00:30:48Savino has the shot
00:30:49edge of the box
00:30:50testing
00:30:50really good save
00:30:51from Pickford
00:30:51and then here's the goal
00:30:53again the two fullbacks
00:30:54heavily involved
00:30:55the midfield players
00:30:57pushing forward
00:30:59nice and patient
00:31:00they get down that
00:31:03right hand side
00:31:03again
00:31:04Nuno
00:31:05he checks his run
00:31:06first of all
00:31:07he's running offside
00:31:07but he comes back
00:31:08intelligently
00:31:09and from then on
00:31:10then he's emphatic
00:31:11really good run
00:31:12look at this for a ball
00:31:13and then he goes in
00:31:14there
00:31:14Nico O'Reilly
00:31:15from the academy
00:31:17taking control
00:31:18and really taking
00:31:19that opportunity
00:31:20really good finish
00:31:21that was the 84th
00:31:22minute Gary
00:31:23so they had to be
00:31:24patient
00:31:24but yeah he played
00:31:25really well today
00:31:26yeah he's been
00:31:26really impactful
00:31:27David Moyes said
00:31:28after the game
00:31:29didn't he
00:31:29that Tarkovsky
00:31:30was a big loss
00:31:31when he went off
00:31:32and the stats
00:31:32back up
00:31:33yeah it's difficult
00:31:35because when you
00:31:35I mean
00:31:36I mean look
00:31:37last 38 minutes
00:31:38you get nine shots
00:31:39and it's just
00:31:40that's because
00:31:41he's not there
00:31:42he's not organising
00:31:44you've got
00:31:44Brownflake there
00:31:45O'Brien there
00:31:45Mikhlenko there
00:31:46but when you've got
00:31:47that missing link
00:31:48it's really hard
00:31:49to know who's going
00:31:50to take the lead
00:31:51so yeah it was
00:31:51a massive loss
00:31:52yeah we've seen the
00:31:53three teams that are
00:31:54in Champions League
00:31:55contention now
00:31:56let's have a look
00:31:57at the top seven
00:31:59Chelsea play
00:32:00Fulham at Craven
00:32:01Cottage on Sunday
00:32:03Foister at Spurs
00:32:04on Monday
00:32:04and City play Villa
00:32:05on Tuesday
00:32:06I mean it's tight
00:32:07isn't it
00:32:08it is tight
00:32:08if Chelsea win
00:32:09their game at home
00:32:10you know
00:32:11their game in hand
00:32:12it's
00:32:12Boris looking over
00:32:13their shoulder
00:32:14looking like Chelsea
00:32:15might miss out
00:32:17do you think
00:32:18yeah I mean
00:32:19they've been in and
00:32:19around it
00:32:19I'd agree with that
00:32:20all the way through
00:32:21the season
00:32:21I'd agree with that
00:32:22tough fixtures
00:32:23against Liverpool
00:32:23Newcastle
00:32:24and of course
00:32:25as you say
00:32:26yeah the next one up
00:32:27it's all to play for
00:32:28it doesn't get more
00:32:30mid-table than
00:32:3010th versus 11th
00:32:32Brentford hadn't won
00:32:33at home in eight games
00:32:34Brighton needed points
00:32:35to stay in the mix
00:32:36for European football
00:32:37Ben Andrews
00:32:38was at the GTEC
00:32:39an ever-changing scene
00:32:42means that these
00:32:43mid-table neighbours
00:32:44could both yet
00:32:45crash the Continental
00:32:46party
00:32:47albeit Brentford
00:32:48would need a
00:32:48nigh-on flawless
00:32:49run-in
00:32:50a nasty schedule
00:32:51has seen them
00:32:51winless here
00:32:52since December
00:32:53but the draw at
00:32:54Arsenal was a boost
00:32:55two changes
00:32:56from them to now
00:32:57with the Armagnac
00:32:58and full debut
00:32:59on Coyote
00:33:00incoming
00:33:00creativity
00:33:01the priority
00:33:0231 goal pair
00:33:04Wixer and Umbermo
00:33:05clearly have
00:33:06the finishing touch
00:33:07blown leads have
00:33:09been so costly
00:33:09for Brighton
00:33:10it happened again
00:33:11twice against Leicester
00:33:12the absentee list
00:33:13is huge
00:33:14but at least
00:33:15Van Hecker's back
00:33:16from a ban
00:33:16so Belieber can
00:33:17return to midfield
00:33:18where Mats Viva
00:33:19starts as well
00:33:20a pair of penalties
00:33:22for João Pedro
00:33:22last week
00:33:23took him to double
00:33:24figures
00:33:24they've still not
00:33:25lost this season
00:33:26when he has scored
00:33:27that's a good ball
00:33:34a shot is away
00:33:35and he looked on
00:33:36side
00:33:36Wixer in the
00:33:37middle
00:33:37and Burmo
00:33:38coming
00:33:38two
00:33:39first save
00:33:40of the game
00:33:41is a big one
00:33:41and a good one
00:33:42for Bruggen
00:33:43in so easily
00:33:50down the left
00:33:50here
00:33:51Kevin Shard
00:33:52and he would
00:33:53have been on
00:33:54Johan Wixer
00:33:55nearly the dream
00:33:56start for Brentford
00:33:57you'll often hear
00:34:00about the importance
00:34:01of the first goal
00:34:02not sure that's
00:34:03relevant when it
00:34:04comes to these
00:34:04two
00:34:0521 points
00:34:06drop by Brentford
00:34:07from winning
00:34:08positions this
00:34:09season
00:34:0920 by Brighton
00:34:11good ball here
00:34:14for Umbermo
00:34:14goal sided
00:34:16with Van Hecker
00:34:16brilliant finish
00:34:18from a brilliant
00:34:19goal scorer
00:34:20brighton have not dealt
00:34:29with Brentford's left side
00:34:30through it came again
00:34:32and where Wixer was denied
00:34:35and Burmo was not
00:34:36his 17th Premier League goal
00:34:39of the season
00:34:39and didn't he take it well
00:34:41great ball from Lewis Potter
00:34:45cracking finish
00:34:47the unlikely Brentford
00:34:53European push
00:34:54is on
00:34:55going to be able to
00:35:02go to the next
00:35:03and the next
00:35:03is going to be able to
00:35:04look for Minte
00:35:05and finding him
00:35:06lovely ball in
00:35:07just run out of room
00:35:09it was a tight angle
00:35:11by the time he made contact
00:35:12real breakthrough season
00:35:17for King Lewis Potter
00:35:18there
00:35:18left back
00:35:19for
00:35:19Fred put it
00:35:21bad injuries
00:35:21in that department
00:35:22that's a real scupper
00:35:23from Flecken
00:35:24Danny Welbeck presented
00:35:25with it
00:35:26catalogue of errors
00:35:27from both
00:35:27and then Danny Welbeck
00:35:28goes down
00:35:29Brighton are asking
00:35:30the questions
00:35:30here Tim Robinson
00:35:31what a miss this was
00:35:33nothing Premier League
00:35:35about that
00:35:35from Flecken
00:35:36or from Welbeck
00:35:37with that touch
00:35:38or Norgaard
00:35:39well Welbeck
00:35:41was certainly
00:35:41looking for it
00:35:42on field
00:35:44decision
00:35:45confirmed
00:35:46no penalty
00:35:47such a streaky
00:35:49first season
00:35:50for
00:35:51the Premier League's
00:35:53youngest ever
00:35:53permanent coach
00:35:54O'Reilly with a
00:35:59sweet take
00:35:59on the half turn
00:36:00bury him
00:36:01Yankouba Minte
00:36:02got to find a
00:36:05team mate
00:36:05and quickly
00:36:05FIFA tries to do
00:36:07just that
00:36:07it's Welbeck
00:36:08right at the end
00:36:11of the first half
00:36:12as the clock
00:36:14hits 48
00:36:15Brighton are level
00:36:17and it's Danny
00:36:18Welbeck
00:36:19finally they make
00:36:20a cross count
00:36:21the drive of Yankouba Minte
00:36:26making it possible
00:36:27in the first place
00:36:28as the Brentford
00:36:29defenders get turned
00:36:30it's a lovely ball
00:36:31in from FIFA
00:36:32but Danny Welbeck
00:36:34has just held off
00:36:35B skipper
00:36:36Christian Norgaard
00:36:37here
00:36:37all square
00:36:39with the last touch
00:36:40of the first half
00:36:42Damned guard
00:36:49Boisa
00:36:50onside for now
00:36:53and Burmo deflection
00:36:54and in
00:36:55an early goal in both halves
00:36:59for Brian and Burmo
00:37:00Brentford lead again
00:37:01can they keep hold of it
00:37:03this time
00:37:03there's the touch
00:37:08and as a result of it
00:37:10I don't think
00:37:11Verbruggen stood a chance
00:37:12it has flicked off
00:37:13Lewis dunk
00:37:14and it couldn't have
00:37:15gone worse
00:37:15for Brighton
00:37:16who got themselves level
00:37:17seconds before the interval
00:37:19they're behind again
00:37:20seconds after it
00:37:22and Brown and Burmo
00:37:23is knocking hard
00:37:23on the door
00:37:24for 20 Premier League goals
00:37:26Welbeck
00:37:29after excellent work
00:37:31from Yankouba Minte
00:37:32it's back with Danny Welbeck
00:37:33Brighton trying to do
00:37:34what they have done
00:37:35to them last week
00:37:35equalised at 1-0 down
00:37:38and 2-1 down
00:37:39Brentford trying to hit
00:37:41them on the counter
00:37:41Damned guard is released
00:37:43and Burmo
00:37:43only shot her in the middle
00:37:46but Wisa is arriving
00:37:47Johan Wisa
00:37:48another deflection
00:37:49another Brentford goal
00:37:51and they're in the clear now
00:37:52and it's that forward pair again
00:37:5734 Premier League goals
00:38:01between them
00:38:02Brighton had overcommitted
00:38:04and Wisa just made that
00:38:06his in the middle
00:38:06because he was the second favourite
00:38:08during the build-up
00:38:09to that counter
00:38:09and Burmo saw him coming
00:38:12two in off
00:38:15Brighton captain Lewis dunk
00:38:17Brentford looking good
00:38:25Brighton needs something
00:38:27pretty special
00:38:27another tangle here
00:38:30and there's a word or two
00:38:36going on in the ear
00:38:37of Tim Robinson here
00:38:38it's a curious coming together
00:38:42isn't it
00:38:42it's off the ball
00:38:43Nathan Collins down
00:38:45something of a forearm smash
00:38:48in that off the ball tangle
00:38:50Xiao Pedro has been sent off
00:38:56the arm out
00:38:58and the card out
00:39:00well hasn't this turned quickly
00:39:03against him
00:39:04the nickel equaliser
00:39:06right on half-time
00:39:07by the hour mark
00:39:08he's two goals down
00:39:09and a man down
00:39:09Pinchelwood looking for someone
00:39:13in space
00:39:13Soli marches in some
00:39:15match FIFA
00:39:16oh that's a lovely ball
00:39:18and Mitoma just stole in
00:39:20behind
00:39:20Ayer and Collins there
00:39:22scored a couple of years ago
00:39:24into 3-3 against Brentford
00:39:26and if he'd poked that in
00:39:27well I guess that scoreline
00:39:29would have been on again
00:39:30Tony Bloom
00:39:31always touted as a model
00:39:33for how to run a club
00:39:34Brighton racking up profits
00:39:36and finally spending big
00:39:37last summer
00:39:38Pinchelwood poking it through
00:39:40Mitoma
00:39:41game on
00:39:42Brighton's 10
00:39:46have halved the deficit
00:39:47and what has felt like
00:39:49a cruise to victory
00:39:50for Brentford
00:39:50is now
00:39:52nothing like as comfortable
00:39:55really sweetly made
00:39:57and what a depth finish
00:39:59no power required here
00:40:00just accuracy
00:40:013-2
00:40:03Yasin Ayari
00:40:09gets it out there
00:40:09how's the cross
00:40:11Soli march
00:40:15wins a corner
00:40:16out swinging
00:40:21in towards dunk
00:40:22this is worth a hit
00:40:24and Gomez hits it
00:40:25Fleck are trying his best
00:40:28to stop it from being
00:40:29another corner
00:40:29but that's what it'll be
00:40:30good delivery
00:40:36Vanhecker gets up
00:40:37gets the first contact
00:40:38bodies tumbling
00:40:39everyone's shouting
00:40:41for something
00:40:42Tim Robertson blowing
00:40:44for nothing
00:40:45VAL having a look
00:40:46at a big old tangle
00:40:48inside that Brentford box
00:40:49there
00:40:49Rico Henry
00:40:53little cumbersome
00:40:55here on Lewis dunk
00:40:56mutual holding
00:40:59is the decision
00:41:00so on we go
00:41:01without a penalty
00:41:02nicely done by Aya
00:41:10not so much
00:41:15with the pass
00:41:15though
00:41:15Bermos done well
00:41:17and Aya's got it back
00:41:18well Aya wanted to keep
00:41:22playing with the advantage
00:41:23and Bermos stayed down
00:41:24obviously happy to take
00:41:25the free kick
00:41:26Thomas Frank
00:41:34Keith Andrews
00:41:35both bellowing nervously
00:41:36from the touchline
00:41:37Jensen
00:41:38goes to the bodies
00:41:40in the middle
00:41:40and that'll wrap it up
00:41:42wonderful delivery
00:41:48stoppage time
00:41:51certainty
00:41:51wicked delivery
00:41:53that cracking
00:41:54header too
00:41:55Brentford are gonna have
00:41:56that long-awaited
00:41:58home win
00:41:58the first in not
00:42:01far off six months
00:42:02Brentford four
00:42:04Brighton two
00:42:05they've done very well
00:42:09from behind on a number
00:42:10of occasions this season
00:42:11Brighton
00:42:11but not to be today
00:42:13that's a clash of heads
00:42:15it's Van Hecker down
00:42:15and they're on quickly
00:42:18here
00:42:18and there's immediate
00:42:22concern in both camps
00:42:24Jan Paul
00:42:25Van Hecker
00:42:26and the Brighton defender
00:42:28seems to be the one
00:42:30who has come off worse
00:42:31here
00:42:32and we shall
00:42:34hope the good news
00:42:36later on this evening
00:42:37he's conscious
00:42:41a bit groggy
00:42:42and we're sending him
00:42:44our wishes
00:42:45hoping everything's okay
00:42:46speedy recovery
00:42:48he's a warrior JP
00:42:49and I'm pretty sure
00:42:50he'll be fighting through this
00:42:51today was
00:42:52like everything
00:42:54just came together
00:42:54we scored some
00:42:56excellent goals
00:42:56the first 15 minutes
00:42:59in both halves
00:43:00unbelievable
00:43:00and a fully fully
00:43:03well-deserved win
00:43:04the only little
00:43:05thing to be
00:43:06irritated about
00:43:07is the spell
00:43:08after the red card
00:43:09I think we should have
00:43:09handled that better
00:43:11but it's never easy
00:43:12we showed a great reaction
00:43:13after the red card
00:43:15and after we
00:43:16conceded the third goal
00:43:17so I was pleased
00:43:18with that
00:43:19but in the end
00:43:20we weren't
00:43:22we didn't get the credits
00:43:23for the character
00:43:24and for the personality
00:43:25we showed in the end
00:43:26it may well be
00:43:28eighth
00:43:28could even be
00:43:29ninth
00:43:29gets Europe
00:43:30this season
00:43:30you're not out of it
00:43:31no we're not out of it
00:43:32we told each other
00:43:33before the game
00:43:34that we want to make
00:43:35a push
00:43:35this last five
00:43:38six games
00:43:39we had to win today
00:43:39so yeah
00:43:41it was fantastic
00:43:41that we got three pains
00:43:42and the last five games
00:43:44are all tough of course
00:43:45but they're also
00:43:45games where you can
00:43:46get three points
00:43:47right first
00:43:49let's bring you up to date
00:43:50with the news
00:43:51on Jan Paul van Hecker
00:43:53who was stretched off
00:43:54at the end of that match
00:43:55after that awful clash
00:43:57of heads
00:43:57we've spoken to the club
00:43:59he was taken to hospital
00:44:01for a precautionary test
00:44:02but he's now been discharged
00:44:04and he's on his way home
00:44:05so that's good news
00:44:07a welcome win at home
00:44:09for Brentford
00:44:10their first since December
00:44:12five games without a win
00:44:13now for Brighton
00:44:14and it felt like
00:44:16Thomas Frank
00:44:17got the edge
00:44:18over Herzler
00:44:19in terms of tactics
00:44:20yeah definitely Gary
00:44:21and some strange positions
00:44:22that Brighton take up
00:44:24right at the beginning
00:44:25of the game
00:44:25we're three minutes in
00:44:26and you think to yourself
00:44:27you know they've got
00:44:29the back four there
00:44:30in good positions
00:44:31but Wifa's just
00:44:32charging forward
00:44:33leaving this space
00:44:33for Shada just to run into
00:44:35great ball in behind
00:44:36that's one pass
00:44:37and Visa now
00:44:39is going to
00:44:39you know you think
00:44:40he's going to put this away
00:44:40two passes
00:44:41and they're right into the team
00:44:42and you think
00:44:43well that can't happen
00:44:44look at this
00:44:45for Visa again
00:44:45goes off
00:44:46Dunk's gone off
00:44:47to mark him
00:44:47he's left three at the back
00:44:49in a 3v3 situation
00:44:51which is odd
00:44:53there's no way
00:44:53in my career
00:44:54that I'm really going in
00:44:55in that position
00:44:56and then the ball's worked out
00:44:58again to Lewis Potter
00:44:59Dam's guard
00:45:00who's a great talent
00:45:02plays a lovely little reverse pass
00:45:04in here
00:45:04this is the difference now
00:45:05they play great football
00:45:06and again look at this
00:45:07Esther Pinyon too far away
00:45:09from Van Hecker
00:45:1016 yards away
00:45:11and it's just like
00:45:12having a field day here
00:45:13Mbomo
00:45:14I mean lovely little ball in
00:45:16his pace is doing everything
00:45:17and we know that quality
00:45:19he's got in front of goal
00:45:20wonderful finish
00:45:21I mean it's a great way
00:45:22to pass
00:45:22isn't it
00:45:23a great way
00:45:24I mean Dam's guard
00:45:25is now sort of there
00:45:26sort of talisman really
00:45:28he's the one
00:45:28that's sort of
00:45:29setting things up
00:45:30he's starting
00:45:31the pace of the attacks
00:45:32and he knows
00:45:33when to go
00:45:34always looking
00:45:35from Bomo
00:45:36and Vista as well
00:45:37and it's not just
00:45:38on the break as well
00:45:39that they can do this
00:45:40I mean Thomas Frank
00:45:41is so clever
00:45:42he's thinking
00:45:43right on the odd occasion
00:45:44let's go high press
00:45:45squeeze squeeze squeeze
00:45:46and he's got all his players
00:45:48in the right positions
00:45:49they create good chances
00:45:51and what they do as well
00:45:52when this guy gets on the ball
00:45:53he's always trying to find the target
00:45:56gets a deflection
00:45:57but it doesn't matter
00:45:58Dion look at this
00:45:59Estopinion it
00:46:00you tell me if he's sprinting here
00:46:01where's that ball going
00:46:02over the top
00:46:03he's jogging
00:46:04that is just
00:46:05honestly
00:46:05that is not good enough
00:46:06but Mbomo here
00:46:08he knows that Vista
00:46:08is his mate
00:46:10there's this telepathic link up
00:46:11between the two of them
00:46:1234 goals
00:46:13I mean these two are
00:46:15they're only behind
00:46:16Diaz and Salah
00:46:18as goals scored
00:46:19in the Premier League
00:46:20this season
00:46:21and they're going to be
00:46:21crowned champions
00:46:22so those two deserve some credit
00:46:23let's have a look at
00:46:24Dijal Pedro
00:46:25red card
00:46:26lost his head a bit
00:46:28do you think
00:46:28yeah
00:46:28it's a really hard one
00:46:30to see this one
00:46:31but you know
00:46:32it's a kick in the back
00:46:34it's an elbow to the chin
00:46:36Nathan Collins
00:46:36nearly lost his head
00:46:37yeah
00:46:38nearly lost more than that
00:46:39to be honest with you
00:46:40but it was just
00:46:42you can tell
00:46:42as ex-players
00:46:44you can tell by
00:46:45you know
00:46:46Dijal Pedro
00:46:47look at his face
00:46:47he knows he's being aggressive
00:46:48overly aggressive
00:46:49and unfortunately
00:46:50he deserves it
00:46:51four games in match of the day
00:46:53too
00:46:53Liverpool could
00:46:54be crowned champions
00:46:56beautifully worked
00:46:59free header
00:46:59oh goodness me
00:47:01how about this
00:47:03everything about that
00:47:04is top class
00:47:05Garnaccio who is in
00:47:07chance to settle this
00:47:09what a piece of skill
00:47:10sensational
00:47:12from Jadon Sancho

00:48:35have made more changes
00:48:36between Premier League
00:48:38games this season
00:48:38than any other
00:48:39Premier League club
00:48:40but just one

00:49:27he started
00:49:28today
00:49:28in 17th
00:49:30still waiting
00:49:32to make the
00:49:32impact
00:49:33that he desires
00:49:34since taking over
00:49:35from Shunin Lopetegui
00:49:36strength from
00:49:42Sivamal
00:49:42Moteas Fernandes
00:49:46arriving is
00:49:47Kyle Walker-Peters
00:49:49and it's the best
00:49:50chance
00:49:50of the opening
00:49:5125 minutes
00:49:52here at London
00:49:53Stadium
00:49:53Kyle Walker-Peters
00:49:56who has scored
00:49:57four league goals
00:49:58in his career
00:49:59and he's had
00:50:01an opportunity
00:50:02to give the
00:50:03already relegated
00:50:04side the lead
00:50:05fouled by Lucas
00:50:12Paqueta
00:50:13who then didn't
00:50:15retreat
00:50:16when the free kick
00:50:16was given
00:50:17against him
00:50:17Southampton players
00:50:20felt that maybe
00:50:21a further punishment
00:50:22could have been
00:50:23given here
00:50:24when Paqueta
00:50:24didn't retreat away
00:50:26and stop the free kick
00:50:27being taken
00:50:28quickly
00:50:28Manning
00:50:33awkwardly
00:50:35off Paqueta
00:50:36and then off the
00:50:37woodwork
00:50:37from Kamaldine
00:50:38Suleimana
00:50:39what an opportunity
00:50:42for Southampton
00:50:43it was an instinctive
00:50:46strike of the ball
00:50:47by Kamaldine
00:50:47Suleimana
00:50:48how close
00:50:50was that
00:50:51up against
00:50:53up against a former
00:50:53club today
00:50:54Graham Potter
00:50:55he played ten
00:50:56matches for
00:50:57Southampton
00:50:57in the mid-90s
00:50:58maybe a chance
00:51:02for a West Ham
00:51:03counter-attack
00:51:04kudos
00:51:04to score and take the lead
00:51:16Southampton
00:51:17Southampton
00:51:18Southampton
00:51:19Southampton
00:51:22seem to react slowly here
00:51:23they surely knew
00:51:24Paqueta was going to launch a counter-attack
00:51:26but the Southampton midfield really labours to get back into any sort of defensive position
00:51:32and once he was one-on-one with Manning here Jared Bowen would have backed himself to score there
00:51:50excellent pass
00:51:57excellent pass
00:51:58kudos
00:52:02well received by Fulcroke
00:52:04Jared Bowen
00:52:07held up by Stevens
00:52:08West Ham are appealing that Bowen was then fouled as he tried to get to it the second time
00:52:13referee Andrew Kitcher was close to that
00:52:16he says no foul
00:52:18to be fair Bowen wasn't making much of an appeal about it anyway
00:52:21he played on
00:52:22trying to get the shot away
00:52:26corner's going to be taken by James Ward-Prowse
00:52:30it's been dropped by the keeper
00:52:31Fulcroke forces it over
00:52:33and the referee indicates
00:52:35a free kick to Southampton
00:52:37Ramsdale jumping with Fulcroke
00:52:40goalkeeper's always the
00:52:43most protected of species
00:52:45little drag by Fulcroke on the shoulder
00:52:47Adam Lallala there alongside Simon Rusk
00:52:57a former Liverpool player who is acting as Rusk's assistant through to the end of the season
00:53:02Mateus Fernandes
00:53:05Solaire had to be careful inside the penalty area
00:53:14so far he's still in a dangerous area
00:53:15Bowen can't clear Stevens
00:53:17as Areola makes his best save of the day
00:53:21Sulemane baffles on
00:53:23Southampton suddenly have found a second wind
00:53:29Jack Stevens looking for his first goal of the season
00:53:32he's Fulcroke
00:53:37he's Fulcroke
00:53:40Tore Dibling working hard to get back
00:53:42Fulcroke continues, now Guilherme
00:53:44a sight of goal, a good save by Ramsdale
00:53:49should have been on the field a few minutes
00:53:51big opportunity for Luis Guillermo there
00:53:54Aaron Ramsdale did do well
00:53:57Guilherme
00:53:59looking for his first goal for West Ham
00:54:07played in by Ramsdale
00:54:09Tyler Dibling, this is the chance
00:54:10Southampton
00:54:11can't believe he couldn't keep it down
00:54:14that is a glorious opportunity
00:54:19this feels like the kind of chance
00:54:21they had to at least hit the target with
00:54:23that could have brought the game back all square again
00:54:27that could have brought the game back all square again
00:54:33that is Fernandes
00:54:35Tyler Dibling
00:54:37Walker-Peters
00:54:41nice little run here
00:54:42blocked by Kilman
00:54:43Ugo Chakwa
00:54:46strikes the stoppage time equaliser for Southampton
00:54:54they may be going down
00:54:56but they're not going down with a whimper
00:55:02big disappointment for Graham Potter
00:55:04his team have been unable to hang on
00:55:10we've seen this build up time and time again
00:55:13for the visitors today
00:55:14but Walker-Peters
00:55:15finally
00:55:16taking something by the scruff of the neck
00:55:18and it needed a flash of inspiration
00:55:21from Lesley Ugo Chakwa
00:55:23on loan from Chelsea
00:55:26West Ham won
00:55:27Southampton won
00:55:31I'm disappointed with the goal we concede
00:55:33but I think when you go away from home in the Premier League
00:55:36particularly with where we're at at the minute
00:55:39and emotionally with the players
00:55:40in terms of being relegated already
00:55:43I thought the second half performance
00:55:45and the ability to keep going
00:55:46is something we can be absolutely delighted about
00:55:49I don't think we were anywhere near good enough
00:55:52but it's what it was
00:55:55when you're 1-0 up
00:55:56I think it's an opportunity
00:55:57and I think it's something we need to get better on
00:55:59to then go on, score another goal, dominate the game
00:56:01regardless of who you play in the Premier League
00:56:04you can't give teams lots of time, lots of space on the ball
00:56:07because they'll punish you like they did today
00:56:09During the game I think we deserved at least a draw
00:56:13so we fight very well
00:56:15so when I scored I had a good feeling
00:56:17because we fought very hard
00:56:20the fans were with us
00:56:22so it's a good feeling
00:56:23probably not too many that can say
00:56:26I had a really good game today
00:56:28so collectively we all have to look at that
00:56:31and find out the reasons
00:56:33it isn't a lack of effort
00:56:34I see the boys every day
00:56:36but we're suffering a bit at home
00:56:37we're suffering here
00:56:39we need to do better
00:56:40Yeah, not the greatest of games
00:56:43a point however for Southampton
00:56:45so they're now level with Derby's
00:56:47well, unwanted record
00:56:49but they have a bit better goal difference
00:56:51so fingers crossed for them
00:56:53they can get another point
00:56:54it's been a tough season for their fans
00:56:56but West Ham
00:56:58they won't be happy with that result
00:57:00a hundred days now in charge for Graham Potter
00:57:02how do you see the progress
00:57:04if there has been any?
00:57:05Erm
00:57:07not a lot of progress
00:57:09yeah, I think there's hopefully time for him to do that
00:57:12I mean what this graphic is basically telling you
00:57:14is there's fewer points, fewer goals
00:57:16and they're better defensively
00:57:18that's basically what he's saying
00:57:19the West Ham fans want more though
00:57:21you know, they really do
00:57:22and they've got good players
00:57:24they should be getting more
00:57:26and they're playing a team at the bottom of the table today
00:57:28so you perhaps don't expect more
00:57:30but it's not his team as such yet, is it?
00:57:32he's not out of window
00:57:33yeah, 22 games he had
00:57:36he was sacked and then they bought a succession of players
00:57:38Gary, £85 million spend
00:57:40and it just hasn't been good enough
00:57:42and now being booed off the pitch
00:57:44it's a hostile environment to play in those games
00:57:4713 points from 13 games
00:57:49with Potter, it really hasn't got any better at all
00:57:51I suppose he needs backing this summer
00:57:54for areas that he points out himself
00:57:56to play his way
00:57:58very much so, you know
00:58:00he needs to work on that side of the game
00:58:01he's more creative
00:58:03and they need to give him the players that he needs
00:58:05but obviously there's a big hole they need to fill
00:58:07you can get players
00:58:08I mean, Paketar, Fulku, Kudus, Bowen
00:58:10they've got a good backbone of players
00:58:12if those players can attract other good players, maybe
00:58:14and Bowen, of course, is a shining light as ever
00:58:16in 11 seasons since their Premier League return
00:58:20Crystal Palace have never finished higher than 10th
00:58:23or lower than 15th
00:58:25they sat 12th for the game against Bournemouth
00:58:27who boosted their chances of a first ever European campaign
00:58:30by beating Fulham on Monday
00:58:31Semenyo
00:58:33Semenyo
00:58:35well he's got past Robinson
00:58:37and Semenyo keeps going
00:58:39and scores
00:58:41Bournemouth in front
00:58:43inside a minute
00:58:45Bournemouth climb above Fulham
00:58:47in the scrap for a place in Europe
00:58:49Mark Scott was at Selhurst Park
00:58:51while that win ended a run of six league games without one for Bournemouth
00:58:57Palace's decent streak came to a grinding halt in the last week
00:59:02shipping five goals at both Manchester City and Newcastle
00:59:07Oliver Glasner makes one change to the side that started at St. James' Park
00:59:11with Adam Wharton in for Jefferson Lerma
00:59:14Bournemouth have top scorer Justin Kluivert back after three games out through injury
00:59:17while Ilya Zabani comes in for Marcos Senezi at the back
00:59:25Bournemouth are unbeaten in the last three Premier League meetings between the clubs
00:59:29winning two and drawing the other without conceding a goal
00:59:35neatly done that by Semenyo
00:59:37pass slightly over hit although Evan Nielsen has made something of it
00:59:40and forced Bournemouth's first corner of the game
00:59:47they've rolled it short Palace have switched off Semenyo's hit
00:59:53oh!
00:59:55how did that not go in?
00:59:57it was nicely worked this
00:59:59and Hausson I think was just caught by surprise
01:00:02an open goal at his mercy
01:00:05but he popped it into the hands of Henderson
01:00:07Kerkhez
01:00:14blocked by Munoz, now Ismail Assar
01:00:17easily away from Adams
01:00:19oh that's a late one from Scott, he might be booked
01:00:22advantage for now for Palace
01:00:24Semenyo sliding in
01:00:26and out comes the card for Alex Scott
01:00:28might have thought he'd gone away with it but Sam Barrett had his number
01:00:33both of Bournemouth's central midfielders now on a booking
01:00:41he's heaved it forwards, Warham jostling
01:00:46Sarr poked on handily here for Daniel Munoz
01:00:49this place pumps by him and Scott picks it up
01:00:55Clivert offloads to Wataro, he's gone away from Richards
01:00:59that's going to be a yellow for Chris Richards
01:01:08his side need one more point to hit their best ever total in the Premier League
01:01:13atop the 48 points they earned under him last season
01:01:16Lacroix has picked out Sarr, good turn and go from him
01:01:24and he's buckled over by Scott
01:01:27who's already on a yellow card
01:01:29now that was very, very risky from Alex Scott
01:01:35I think he's gone away with one here
01:01:37how many times have you seen a yellow card given for something like that?
01:01:42the biggest talking points of the game so far
01:01:44which tells you a lot about how it's gone
01:01:47Clivert
01:01:52spinning away from Richards
01:01:54now he's another player who is on a yellow and he is going to get a second booking and be dismissed
01:02:00well Palace will say what about the earlier one when Alex Scott who was on a yellow could easily have picked up another Chris Richards has
01:02:10and Crystal Palace are down to ten men in first half stoppage time
01:02:18fair to say they weren't particularly pleased with the referee at half time
01:02:21it's a free kick
01:02:22it's getting a bit heated now and I think Palace's sense of injustice from earlier is leading to some sparks flying
01:02:39there's a yellow card apiece here
01:02:42there's a yellow card apiece here
01:02:45with a little squabble between Sarr and Clivert has led to both of them collecting cautions
01:02:52this side have a walk back-to-back league game since January what an opportunity they have here to change that
01:03:07Palace coping pretty well so far
01:03:09that will work its way to Adam Smith
01:03:25got the angle for the cross and the flicked header is just wide
01:03:30first real moment I have known that Bournemouth have had since the interval
01:03:33they're in the game really
01:03:36Smith's curling delivery and Evan Ilsen didn't get the right angle on the header
01:03:43Brooks
01:03:46nothing wrong with that
01:03:48here's Munoz
01:03:50Eddie and Kettia
01:03:52Kamada
01:03:58Kettia is after that
01:03:59it came for Sarr and that's a shank from Howsen out for a corner
01:04:04and the Holmesdale road end stands
01:04:08and tries to help suck this ball in
01:04:12in from Hughes
01:04:14queuing up in there and it could have gone anywhere
01:04:17over the top from Zabani
01:04:19Kepa was crowded out really
01:04:22he couldn't come and claim and Zabani had tried to clear
01:04:25nearly put it into his own net
01:04:26put it into his own net
01:04:30Sarr got up well
01:04:32Munoz
01:04:33here's in Kettia
01:04:38Sarr
01:04:40fist in dangerously
01:04:42Kepa
01:04:44gathers but
01:04:46just for a moment he thought Palace might get their noses in front
01:04:49Sarr with the dart and then the drill in
01:04:52Munoz went for the flick but Howsen was there
01:04:55great point today having a clean sheet and also how we kept the clean sheet
01:05:00but because we didn't give them really a clear chance
01:05:03I think there were two, three, four more dangerous situations in their box than in ours
01:05:07I imagine there's a bit of frustration having played 45 minutes and not being able to find the breakthrough today
01:05:12Yeah, I think it's a point that probably before the game it's not a bad point coming here difficult place difficult stadium but considering how the game has gone we've had 45 minutes playing against 10 is disappointing
01:05:26Descending off of Chris Richards, what are your thoughts?
01:05:29I think when there is consistency in leading a game then it would be either two red cards or no red cards
01:05:37so this is what I felt and this is I think what everybody felt in the stadium
01:05:40not enough for a second yellow the Scott foul then I think it's not enough Chris Richards foul
01:05:46or it's enough on both sides so this is the only thing I'm criticising today
01:05:52That one point you've got today has now ensured that this is the best season in terms of a points return that Bournemouth have ever had in the Premier League
01:05:59No, at the end is one of the goals also we had not to improve
01:06:03A season that was already a very good season and we still have five games to add more points
01:06:09It's difficult to fight against the teams that we are we are fighting and I think the players are doing well
01:06:15Well, no goals, but there was a red card brandished or a second yellow whichever way you want to look at it
01:06:21Now should there have been two though or actually possibly none?
01:06:25None!
01:06:26I don't, I don't either
01:06:27Sending people off for these
01:06:28Yeah, I mean Scott's there, I mean he's stopping in the tack half way in
01:06:32There's a little nudge
01:06:33This was less than ten minutes before the other one
01:06:36I mean there's a little, he's on a yellow right, there's a little nudge there, he shouldn't do it, he's stopping in the tack
01:06:40If you don't give a yellow for that, to give a red then you can't give a, you can't give him a second yellow for that, that's terrible
01:06:47Look at the contact, it's on his arm, on his hand
01:06:52You can't give one without the other, you either give them both or you don't, it's as simple as that
01:06:56Samuel Barrett, yeah, no consistency
01:06:58Absolutely
01:06:59I suppose in many, I just thought for a while, maybe just panicked the second one, didn't realise he'd already booked him
01:07:04But he was in great position for both
01:07:06Yeah, I agree, Bournemouth
01:07:09Well they've got a good point, Sally, it's the best in Premier League history and there's still what, five games to go
01:07:14Brilliant
01:07:16Not bad at all, is it Martin?
01:07:18Eight from the table, good wins at Newcastle, Man City, Arsenal this season, so yeah, some of the football they play, quarter-finally the FA Cup, they've been quite outstanding at times
01:07:26I think they've got to be very proud of themselves, very proud of themselves
01:07:29Yeah, and a lot of speculation about Herola, they'll be keen to keep him, won't they?
01:07:33I'm not surprised, he's done great with that football, but great with those players
01:07:36Yeah, and Crystal Palace semi-finals to look forward to next week, that's really what they've focused on
01:07:41Not too much though
01:07:43Speaks the form of Villamans
01:07:45That was a good result after conceding ten goals earlier in the week
01:07:49Certainly was, Martin, thank you very much, good to see you, likewise to you Dion, always a pleasure
01:07:54Before we go, let's have a look at the Premier League table
01:07:59The title could be decided on Sunday, but Saturday is all about the race for Europe
01:08:04Just two points separate Newcastle in third, to Aston Villa in sixth, with Manchester City moving above Nottingham Forest into fourth
01:08:12Chelsea face Fulham on Sunday, while Forest travel to Spurs on Monday
01:08:17Southampton's draw at West Ham puts them on 11 points, equalling the lowest tally in Premier League history set by Derby 17 years ago
01:08:26That draw also means that Ipswich cannot be relegated this weekend, but Leicester City can, he whispered, if they fail to beat the leaders
01:08:33So Aston Villa go to tune on Newcastle, good golly, he didn't miss Oli
01:08:37Goodbye
