Rob Holding on Sheffield United victory against Cardiff City, speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield
Transcript
00:00Rob, I imagine it was great to be out there. I imagine it was even better to get the win in the clean sheet.
00:04Yeah, it's good to start another game. I'm still chasing a bit of match fitness, as you can tell.
00:09I'm not really finishing the 90s at the moment, but they'll come.
00:12It was important to get back to winning ways and see where a couple of wins will take us.
00:18Huge today. Tough start because they put a lot of people behind the ball.
00:22Had to be patient, but were you pleased with the way that the team stuck at it and then showed a bit of bravery?
00:26Yeah, we knew when we saw the team sheet and they had the two strikers up top, the big lads.
00:31We knew it was going to be quite direct and it was how we could fight in the duels,
00:35pick up the second balls and then get to playing and break them down.
00:38Like you said, we had to be patient.
00:40Then with Gussie following the shot in and getting the torch to break the deadlock, that was important.
00:45Then the second goal was so nice to see it go in.
00:47You heard the stadium just go, oh, and just totally relax.
00:50That was nice. Back to a win.
00:54It needed it, didn't it?
00:55You wouldn't have wanted to go into that last couple of minutes with just the one.
00:58When Ben scored that, I think you're right.
01:00There was a collective sigh of relief.
01:02Yeah, exactly.
01:03I hate not being able to finish the game and then I'm dreading the worst because I want to be out there helping the team.
01:10But you've got someone who's experienced as Robbo coming in and a leader as he is to calm the lads down.
01:16I mean, he can deal with direct footballs and comes on and just sort of secures it a bit.
01:21So it's nice to have him there ready to come on and it gives the weight off my back, really.
01:25And clearly, I know the last few games have been frustrating, but you know you've got match winners in there, don't you?
01:30So for Kiefer to come on, have a pivotal role in the goal, for Guss to kind of do what he did, really nice touch.
01:35You've always got that confidence that somebody can produce something.
01:38Yeah, we've got a really, really strong bench and the last couple of games that I've been sat there, we're looking at the bench and there's some really good players, talented players.
01:45So it's nice to be able to rely on them to come on and the way Kiefer came on and the work rate he put in without the ball was massive.
01:52Just getting behind the ball and winning it back, obviously for the goal as well, wins it back.
01:56And then I think it was a shot that got deflected into Brillo's path, but it's Brillo's birthday, so it was nice for him to get a goal on that and secure the win.
02:04And I know it will have been frustrating for you that you haven't been more involved, but two-player part to come in today, you must be proud of what you've done.
02:13Yeah, I mean, I keep working every day at the training ground and the gaffer has been great.
02:18It's just nice to be around the first-team environment again and enjoying the running that we've got.
02:23And like I said, at Luton, I think if I can come on and make an impact for the team and be there for him, be it for the last five to see out games, be it to start like tonight, that's exactly what I'll do.
02:34I mean, the job was clear before today, four wins out of four. You've got one of them. Nice easy game up next at Burnley.
02:40Oh yeah, we go to Burnley now and yeah, it's going to be a tough game, we know that.
02:45There's a reason that us, them and Leeds are all at the top on the points that we're on.
02:49So there's three good teams there and yeah, it's the championship, anything can happen.
02:53No one would have had the money on us losing three games in a row, so hopefully something can go our way and if we just keep doing our job, we'll see what happens.
03:00I imagine it's a case now of lifting levels again from today. Today's clearly been an uplift from the last few, but taking it to the next stage as well.
03:09Yeah, it was nice, like I said, to get that win. After three losses, we needed a bounce-back game, we needed to win and just get that self-belief again.
03:16So hopefully that's put a bit of pressure on Burnley and they see us winning, they see us back to what we've been doing best all season.
03:22And yeah, it's going to be a showdown at Turf Moor.
03:24Is there still that belief, I imagine there is, within the dressing room that you can do this, that with a bit of pressure, somebody will slip up?
03:33Yeah, there has to be that belief. If you don't go in believing you can win games, you're never going to win games.
03:36So we go into every game thinking we're going to win it and we will know what we need to do to win it.
03:41And it'll be the same on Monday. We're going to go in there with full belief that we can get the result.
03:45And with everything that you've done in your career already, I imagine to get this over the line, however it is, whether it's automatics or playoffs or whatever, would still be a fantastic moment for you.
03:56Yeah, exactly. It'll be great. I mean, in my career, I've had one relegation from the Championship when I first broke through at Bolton.
04:02So to cancel that out with a promotion with Sheffield United, that'll be great.
