Ashlyn is coerced by her stepmother, Miriam, to come join the family on a trip to the Caribbean as part of destination wedding. Miriam is the bride to be, and though Ashlyn has been on her own for a while, working and studying to become a teacher, her stepfamily is quick to fall into old patterns of undervaluing Ashlyn, putting her down, and expecting her to do everything. To make things harder, Miriam’s fiancé, Bruce, is a wonderful man who is oblivious to Miriam’s ways. Ashlyn finds friendship and the beginnings of love with Bruce’s son, Noah. But Ashlyn struggles to have her own happily ever after when she knows her stepfamily is set to ruin Bruce.

00:04:29Miriam, what are you doing here?
00:04:36My size 7 Jimmy Choo shoebox is bigger than this place.
00:04:40That's enough for me.
00:04:42Can I get you something to drink?
00:04:44Oh, something bottled.
00:04:45I'm sparkling.
00:04:47I have tap water.
00:04:48Ew.
00:04:49Then what did you offer?
00:04:51Did you need something?
00:04:53I'm getting married.
00:04:57Congratulations.
00:04:58I need you to come along for the wedding.
00:05:00It's next week.
00:05:03That's kind of quick, isn't it?
00:05:04We've been engaged for months.
00:05:06Didn't you know?
00:05:07You never call or text, so no.
00:05:10Sure I do.
00:05:11No, that's me calling you to wish you a happy birthday or Merry Christmas.
00:05:15Well, anyway, pack a bag.
00:05:17We leave tomorrow.
00:05:19What?
00:05:20Tomorrow.
00:05:21We're having a destination wedding.
00:05:23The Caribbean.
00:05:24Bruce is renting a beautiful villa so our families can spend time together, so you'll come.
00:05:29I have my classes, and I'm interning at the school, plus I have work.
00:05:33I can't afford a trip to the Caribbean or anywhere else for that matter.
00:05:36Stop complaining.
00:05:38Think of it as a vacation.
00:05:39You're not listening.
00:05:39I don't have time for a vacation.
00:05:43But you're family.
00:05:45Since when?
00:05:46You're being dramatic.
00:05:47Miriam, you may have married my father, but you have never treated me like family.
00:05:54After your father died, I did the best I could as a widow with two children and you.
00:06:01Still, I can't drop everything for this.
00:06:07Do you know how much tuition costs?
00:06:09I have to work so I'm able to afford-
00:06:11What have I paid for your tuition?
00:06:14Talk to your professors, or whatever.
00:06:17Arrange it so you can take the time off, and I will give you the money you need for your tuition.
00:06:22Why do you need me to go?
00:06:23I mean, I didn't even know that you were engaged.
00:06:26Bruce is a widower.
00:06:28We found common ground about losing a spouse.
00:06:32You came up as we shared our different experiences, so naturally he wants you to meet him and his son.
00:06:39Besides, it'll look strange if you don't come.
00:06:43Ashlyn.
00:06:45Wouldn't your father want you to do this for me?
00:06:48Wouldn't he want you to support our family?
00:06:51When does the flight leave?
00:07:03This is Miriam Vanderbilt.
00:07:05Please leave me your information so I can return your call.
00:07:07Ciao.
00:07:08Miriam, I'm here, but I didn't see you or Jerry or Fiona on the plane.
00:07:13I'm not sure where to go.
00:07:16Oh, I just got your message with the address.
00:07:19I, um, I, I guess I'll meet you there.
00:07:59About time you showed up.
00:08:02Hello, Fiona.
00:08:03Come on.
00:08:07Beautiful, isn't it?
00:08:08Now, don't get all starry-eyed.
00:08:10Mom doesn't want you to embarrass her.
00:08:12She's the one that asked me to come.
00:08:14Well, I'm planning it all, so don't get in my way.
00:08:16You are?
00:08:17It's my job.
00:08:18Wedding planner.
00:08:19I thought you were a fashion buyer.
00:08:21Ugh.
00:08:22Didn't work out.
00:08:24I didn't think you'd get bored with shopping.
00:08:27So, how long have you been here?
00:08:29About an hour or so.
00:08:30I didn't see you on the flight.
00:08:32Mom, Jerry, and I flew first class.
00:08:34Of course.
00:08:36Hey, how did you like your seat, though?
00:08:38Ficked it out myself.
00:08:40Yeah, yeah.
00:08:41Being by the bathroom and the seat that doesn't recline was great.
00:08:50Oh, there you are, Ashlyn.
00:08:53What took you so long?
00:08:54I didn't know where to go, and I thought you'd wait for me.
00:08:57You were left at the airport?
00:08:59Oh, our taxi was full.
00:09:03Ashlyn was a dear to come after us, especially since she knew how eager I was to see you.
00:09:10Well, I'm so glad we're all here.
00:09:13Ashlyn, I'm Bruce.
00:09:15It's very nice to finally meet.
00:09:17I've heard great things about you.
00:09:19Oh, thank you.
00:09:20It's wonderful to meet you, too, and congratulations on the engagement.
00:09:26My son Noah is grilling out back, but you should come meet him.
00:09:29Sure.
00:09:30Maybe Ashlyn should put her things away first.
00:09:33Jerry, show her to her room.
00:09:35Good idea.
00:09:36You, come on out after you've had a chance to get settled,
00:09:39and I'm going to go check and make sure he doesn't burn the meat.
00:09:42Thanks.
00:09:45Help her with her bags, Jerry.
00:09:46Hurry up, Ash.
00:10:01Mom thought you'd feel at home in this room.
00:10:04Thanks.
00:10:06How you been?
00:10:07Busy.
00:10:09Must be sports season.
00:10:11It always is somewhere.
00:10:13How much are you betting now?
00:10:14None of your business.
00:10:15And stop with that judgy tone of yours.
00:10:18And if anyone asks, I'm a sports statistician.
00:10:22That sounds official.
00:10:24I make more than I lose.
00:10:25Sure you do.
00:10:26Mom's fine with it.
00:10:28And Bruce?
00:10:29Bruce is proud I'm a sports statistician.
00:10:36You misspelled statistician.
00:10:41Dinner will be ready soon, and the table needs to be set.
00:10:45Get to it.
00:11:03It's cold.
00:11:04Oh, shush.
00:11:05Ah, that one needs to be turned.
00:11:14You second-guessing my grilling?
00:11:16Never.

00:21:07with birds being released indoors?
00:21:08I've almost got the birds reserved
00:21:10you know I was thinking
00:21:12let's save those for when we drive off after the reception
00:21:15but it's so much more impactful during this ceremony
00:21:18but they're birds
00:21:20inside a church
00:21:21think of the mess
00:21:22I've always wanted to have them at my wedding
00:21:25and here's my last chance
00:21:26I wonder if you could
00:21:28persuade the priest
00:21:30but if you think it's too much
00:21:32well
00:21:32I trust your judgment
00:21:34I'll

00:32:29Bruce should have asked me
00:32:31just because you're the wedding planner
00:32:33doesn't mean you have a say
00:32:34in everything we do
00:32:35before the actual wedding
00:32:36why did it have to be fishing?
00:32:38some tradition of his
00:32:40gross
00:32:41then stay
00:32:43why didn't you convince them
00:32:46to do something else?
00:32:47water skiing
00:32:48snorkeling

00:33:59all right spit it out
00:34:00I know you had your
00:34:01reservations about this trend
00:34:02it's the risk of awkward
00:34:05conversations that gets me
00:34:07all that
00:34:08paired with the knowledge
00:34:09we're going to be bound
00:34:09with this doomed family
00:34:10I thought you liked Miriam

00:34:33step siblings
00:34:35everyone takes
00:34:37some getting used to

00:45:34He seemed a little upset earlier, too.
00:45:57Here we go.
00:46:16I don't know what's bothering you.
00:46:46Oh.
00:46:47Well, what's bothering you, then?
00:46:50There's nothing I can't handle.
00:46:53Is it like, um, guy troubles, or...?
00:46:58Yeah, sorry.
00:47:00That felt strange as I was saying it.
00:47:03Um, no.
00:47:06No, it's not guy troubles.
00:47:08I don't have anyone back home.
00:47:10Oh.
00:47:11Do you?
00:47:13Not anymore.
00:47:15But there was someone?
00:47:18Yeah.
00:47:19We had an overseas opportunity.
00:47:22Kind of a dream job scenario.
00:47:25And she left.
00:47:27Oh.
00:47:28I'm sorry.
00:47:30Did you miss her?
00:47:32I did.
00:47:33For a long time.
00:47:35She didn't really talk to me about it.
00:47:38She said goodbye, and that was it.
00:47:41Oh.
00:47:42Yeah.
00:47:43It's nice to feel loved.
00:47:47There.
00:47:48Presentable?
00:47:49Always.
00:47:50Oh, there you are.
00:47:51I was wanting to take the family for a nice dinner tonight.
00:47:53How soon before you can be ready?
00:47:54Uh, about ten minutes.
00:47:55Maybe a little longer for Ashlyn.
00:47:56I'll hurry.
00:47:57Wear something nice.
00:47:58I will.
00:47:59I'll hurry.
00:48:00Wear something nice.
00:48:02I will.
00:48:04Where'd you go?
00:48:32What?
00:48:33Oh, new shirt.
00:48:34It's nice.
00:48:35Oh, thanks.
00:48:36Let's go.
00:48:37In a minute, Ashlyn's still changing.
00:48:38I can't go tonight.
00:48:39Why ever not?
00:48:40Something happened with my computer?
00:48:41My paper's gone, and it's due tomorrow.
00:48:45Oh, new shirt?
00:48:56It's nice.
00:48:57Oh, thanks.
00:48:58Let's go.
00:48:59In a minute, Ashlyn's still changing.
00:49:01I can't go tonight.
00:49:02Why ever not?
00:49:04Something happened with my computer?
00:49:06My paper's gone and it's due tomorrow.
00:49:08Ashlyn, I'm so sorry.
00:49:09Oh, yes, that is unfortunate.
00:49:12You still have to eat.
00:49:14He's right.
00:49:15Come along and we'll get you back as quick as we can.
00:49:17But we're celebrating.
00:49:18I don't want us to rush.
00:49:19It's not a problem.
00:49:21No.
00:49:21No, you shouldn't change anything for me.
00:49:24I'll be fine.
00:49:25Are you sure that it's gone?
00:49:27Yeah, I...
00:49:28I must have not saved it right or something.
00:49:31You should be more careful.
00:49:33I can stay and help you.
00:49:34No, no.
00:49:35You should go.
00:49:36You'll just be watching me type.
00:49:38But you missed dinner with us last night.
00:49:40Is there anything we can do to help?
00:49:42Not that I can think of, but thank you.
00:49:47It'll be all right.
00:49:50Yeah, thanks.
00:49:52Come on, Noah.
00:49:54Let's go.
00:49:55My dear friend, had to cancel.
00:50:24She's still coming to the wedding.
00:50:26Her husband tore his ACL or something playing tennis.
00:50:29Is that Donna?
00:50:30No, Hannah.
00:50:32You know what this means, though.
00:50:33We have to revisit the seating chart.
00:50:36Yes.
00:50:37I can out.
00:50:37Tomorrow.
00:50:39Let's just enjoy tonight.
00:50:41Speaking of...
00:50:42Oh, Bruce, you didn't.
00:50:45I got you a little something special.
00:50:47You already did.
00:50:49More of a keepsake for all the memories we'll have after we're married.
00:50:53But this...
00:50:55Is to help us always remember our time here together on the island.
00:51:01Oh, it's beautiful.
00:51:05I'm glad you like it.
00:51:06Oh.
00:51:11Oh, come on now.
00:51:12Let's order before I start tearing up.
00:51:14So, what are you getting?
00:51:18I'm not sure.
00:51:19You?
00:51:20I'm thinking a salad.
00:51:23Want to share a dessert with me?
00:51:25Haven't thought that far ahead.
00:51:29What about Ashlyn?
00:51:30What about her?
00:51:32What would she like?
00:51:34I don't know.
00:51:35A cup of soup or something.
00:51:36And have we all had enough time to decide what to order?
00:51:42Yes, I think so.
00:51:44Please, start here with Miriam.
00:51:45I'm still debating.
00:51:47In that case, please start with Fiona,
00:51:49and we'll have made up our minds by the time you get her on the table.
00:51:52I'll have the steak salad here and a side of fries.
00:51:56And you?
00:51:57I'll have the chicken with the pasta.
00:52:00Oh, and one more thing.
00:52:02Can I order another meal?
00:52:03Same thing, but if you'll box it up to go, please.
00:52:05Certainly.
00:52:07Thanks.
00:52:21Okay.
00:52:23Keep going.
00:52:30How's the paper coming?
00:52:32Oh, hi.
00:52:34Um.
00:52:34It's actually easier rewriting it than it was the first time.
00:52:39Although...
00:52:40You wish you didn't have to write it twice no matter what?
00:52:43Exactly.
00:52:45Hungry?
00:52:48Yes, actually.
00:52:49It's nice outside right now.
00:52:51You want to eat out there?
00:52:53Away from your computer?
00:52:57Sure.
00:53:04This is exactly what I needed.
00:53:08You're welcome.
00:53:10So what's this paper of yours about?
00:53:12Oh, um...
00:53:14It's about child development theory intersecting with age-appropriate learning.
00:53:19There are a bunch of different studies I've pulled from.
00:53:21It's probably the most technical thing I've had to write, but I hope it works.
00:53:26Sounds very scientific.
00:53:29Yeah.
00:53:30I'll be glad when I finish it.
00:53:33Again.
00:53:36Did you always want to be a teacher?
00:53:37No, actually.
00:53:41I didn't know what I wanted to do for a while.
00:53:43But I figured it out a few years after high school.
00:53:46What changed?
00:53:47I ran into one of my old teachers.
00:53:52She was great.
00:53:54She helped me through some hard times.
00:53:56I just kept thinking that I want to do that.
00:53:59Be that person for a kid who needs someone who understands.
00:54:04That's very admirable.
00:54:06Did I tell you my mother was a teacher?
00:54:09No.
00:54:10I didn't know that.
00:54:11Music, so not quite what you're going to do.
00:54:15Was it piano?
00:54:16Yeah, you remembered.
00:54:19That and violin.
00:54:21Do you play?
00:54:23A little bit of piano.
00:54:26I was a pretty stubborn kid about practicing,
00:54:28so my mom told me I had to be taught by someone else for it to work.
00:54:32I think I missed out on how great of a teacher she was.
00:54:36Was her passing unexpected?
00:54:40Yeah.
00:54:42I think it always is to an extent.
00:54:46She'd been sick for a while.
00:54:48But we thought she was getting better.
00:54:51Then she took a turn for the worse,
00:54:53with all these complications,
00:54:55and...
00:54:56And it was over.
00:55:00That sounds really hard.
00:55:02Having that hope and then losing her.
00:55:04It was.
00:55:07Did your dad ever think about getting married again sooner?
00:55:14Maybe.
00:55:17There were some pretty awkward times when he started dating again.
00:55:20With some of the stories he would tell me.
00:55:24My guess is that it wasn't the right time.
00:55:26He was expanding his business.
00:55:28Maybe it was a matter of finding the right person.
00:55:33I always wonder about that.
00:55:36The right one.
00:55:38Yeah.
00:55:40Maybe it seems strange when we've both lost parents,
00:55:43remarrying and all.
00:55:44I don't have too much life experience
00:55:47in love
00:55:49and marriage.
00:55:52But I hope that
00:55:53even the second time around,
00:55:56we still aim to find that
00:55:58right person.
00:56:04Come in.
00:56:07What is it?
00:56:08I need to talk to you.
00:56:10What's wrong?
00:56:10I had some bad tips
00:56:14on some games this week.
00:56:16How much is it this time?
00:56:1930k.
00:56:21Oh my.
00:56:22Mom.
00:56:23I've tried to be supportive,
00:56:25but at some point,
00:56:27you have to stop lying to yourself.
00:56:29What you're doing
00:56:30isn't the way to make it in your life.
00:56:32I can earn it back,
00:56:33but my trading accounts were suspended.
00:56:36Don't you mean gambling accounts?
00:56:39What do you want me to do about it?
00:56:40Talk to Bruce.
00:56:42Oh, Jerry,
00:56:43I can't do that.
00:56:45I won't.
00:56:48Maybe I can lend you something.
00:56:53The money was
00:56:54yours.
00:56:58What?
00:56:59The 30,000.
00:57:01You had me co-sign on an account
00:57:03in case anything ever happened to you.
00:57:05And I...
00:57:07And you used it as your own
00:57:09personal piggy bank?
00:57:10I'm sorry.
00:57:12Sorry doesn't pay me back.
00:57:13I know.
00:57:14But if we ask Bruce...
00:57:16When?
00:57:17Before the wedding,
00:57:18when he learns about your wasteful habit?
00:57:21Or after,
00:57:22when he'll feel like I lied to him?
00:57:25The second one?
00:57:26I really am sorry.
00:57:30I didn't know what else to do.
00:57:33You stay quiet.
00:57:35We just have to get through this week.
00:57:38And the wedding.
00:57:43I'll tell him.
00:57:44My paper.
00:58:01Okay.
00:58:02Just the last bit.
00:58:14Yeah.
00:58:15That works.
00:58:19Attach file.
00:58:21And...
00:58:22Send.
00:58:27My cousin decided to come last minute,
00:58:29so we could swap him in this plus one
00:58:31with your friend.
00:58:32Good.
00:58:33Now, do you think we should increase
00:58:35the numbers for the catering?
00:58:36They always give such stingy servings,
00:58:38and I don't want anyone to go hungry.
00:58:40I think it'll be fine as is.
00:58:41Maybe I should ask Yona to call about it,
00:58:43just in case.
00:58:44Mom,
00:58:45this is so much better, isn't it?
00:58:47Yes.
00:58:48Lovely.
00:58:49Oh, good morning, sleepyhead.
00:58:52Ashlyn, did you finish your paper?
00:58:54Yes.
00:58:54All done.
00:58:55That's great news.
00:58:58Uh, Miriam?
00:59:00Can I talk to you for a moment?
00:59:02Of course.
00:59:04Girl talk, I guess.
00:59:08Well?
00:59:11I was wondering what you wanted me
00:59:12to wear for the wedding.
00:59:13It doesn't matter.
00:59:15Any one of your dresses will do.
00:59:16I didn't bring any dresses.
00:59:19Well, that was silly of you.
00:59:22I figured you'd have one for me,
00:59:24at least to match your wedding colors.
00:59:25Well, you figured wrong.
00:59:27Why would I squander my money like that?
00:59:30It's just one day.
00:59:32And remember, you'll be helping seat the guests.
00:59:34It doesn't matter what you wear.
00:59:35Hang on.
00:59:37Don't you think Bruce will find it odd
00:59:39that you're basically excluding me
00:59:40from the wedding party?
00:59:41I mean, think about the photos.
00:59:44Don't try to manipulate me.
00:59:47You always felt you would do something as a child.
00:59:49Why can't I have this or that?
00:59:52It's not about the dress, and you know it.
00:59:54If you don't want me here,
00:59:56I'm more than happy to leave right now.
00:59:59I have nothing to lose.
01:00:00And I don't appreciate being threatened.
01:00:03It's not a threat.
01:00:04It's the truth,
01:00:05which you should be more afraid of than I am.
01:00:08Try this on for truth, then.
01:00:10You leave and stop behaving?
01:00:11You don't get a dime from me for your tuition.
01:00:14And of course, with you leaving,
01:00:15I'll have to explain why.
01:00:16That'll only hurt you more.
01:00:18I've already shared with Bruce
01:00:19how troubled you were growing up.
01:00:21Who do you think he's going to believe
01:00:23when I tell him you got upset over nothing
01:00:25and left us all?
01:00:27And what would you know, I think,
01:00:28if you learned you came here
01:00:30only for the promise of money?
01:00:38Ashley.
01:00:41Mind if I tag along?
01:00:43My dad said you were going into town.
01:00:45My earbuds died,
01:00:46and I needed a new pair for the flight home.
01:00:48Um, I have some shopping to do.
01:00:50I might be a while.
01:00:51That's okay.
01:00:52We've got time.
01:00:54Okay.
01:01:05Here we are.
01:01:06Great.
01:01:07You want to come with me?
01:01:08I should be pretty quick in the electronics shop.
01:01:10Oh, I don't want to slow you down.
01:01:12I'll just meet you somewhere.
01:01:13Okay.
01:01:14Where will you be?
01:01:14I'll come find you.
01:01:15Um, just one of these clothing shops.
01:01:18Okay.
01:01:18See you in a few minutes.
01:01:20Okay.
01:01:20I'll see you in a few minutes.
01:01:53Hey, I'm back.
01:02:03Great, I'm almost done.
01:02:05What are you looking for?
01:02:06Oh, nothing. I mean, something, obviously.
01:02:10I'll know it when I see it.
01:02:12Okay.
01:02:18There, that's all I need.
01:02:19Don't you want to try it on?
01:02:22I'm sure it'll fit fine.
01:02:24What's the occasion, anyway?
01:02:27Oh, um, it's...
01:02:29What?
01:02:30Well, it's not for the wedding, right?
01:02:34What, is it?
01:02:37Sort of.
01:02:38What about the bridesmaids' dresses and the fittings and all that?
01:02:41I saw Fiona parading around in hers the other day.
01:02:43They, they couldn't make a dress in time.
01:02:48My measurements, I mean.
01:02:49They didn't have them.
01:02:50Well, even Jerry and I have matching vests and ties for the wedding.
01:02:54I...
01:02:55I like this better.
01:02:58Okay, well, if you're going to get a dress,
01:03:02can I at least suggest one you like a little more?
01:03:03Hmm, let's see here.
01:03:09Oh.
01:03:10How about this?
01:03:11Hmm?
01:03:12What do you think?
01:03:12Yeah.
01:03:13Okay.
01:03:15And...
01:03:16Hmm.
01:03:19How about this one?
01:03:20Hmm?
01:03:22Yeah.
01:03:23Yeah, I like them.
01:03:24You want to try them on?
01:03:26Okay.
01:03:27Um, I'll be right back.
01:03:30Is this one fancy enough?
01:03:50You're...
01:03:50I mean, it's beautiful.
01:03:52On you.
01:03:54So you think it's okay?
01:03:56Yeah, more than okay.
01:03:58I think it's perfect.
01:04:00Truly.
01:04:02Okay.
01:04:07Thank you for coming.
01:04:09And...
01:04:10for your opinion.
01:04:12Anytime.
01:04:13There you are.
01:04:15I've been looking everywhere for you, Noah.
01:04:18Uh, I better go hang this up so it doesn't get you wrinkled.
01:04:21So, tide's coming in and the waves are perfect for body surfing.
01:04:31You in?
01:04:32Have you seen my dad?
01:04:33Uh, inside somewhere?
01:04:35Great, thanks.
01:04:35Can I get one of those?
01:04:47Sure.
01:04:52Needed with the seat, right?
01:04:54You should try the pool.
01:04:55Good idea.
01:04:56What a view.
01:04:57What a view.
01:05:01Yeah.
01:05:04Hey, Dad.
01:05:05There's something that's been bothering me.
01:05:07Okay.
01:05:08What?
01:05:09Have you noticed how Ashlyn is treated differently than Jerry and Fiona?
01:05:14Not really.
01:05:15But I think it'd be hard for me to not subconsciously favor you even after I get married.
01:05:23No, it's more than just favoring.
01:05:24I mean, think about it.
01:05:26She's given the smallest room in the house.
01:05:28One that I think is for a caretaker, even when there's an empty, nicer room available.
01:05:33She's always the one to clean up while Jerry and Fiona and even Miriam do nothing.
01:05:37Noah, that's not fair.
01:05:39This is a vacation after all.
01:05:40For everyone but Ashlyn.
01:05:42I mean, even the way they act around each other.
01:05:45Some of the things they say, there's this tension and almost fear.
01:05:50You sure?
01:05:52Do you know where we were this afternoon?
01:05:54No.
01:05:55A dress shop.
01:05:56Ashlyn was buying her own dress because Miriam didn't even get her something to match the wedding party.
01:06:01Noah, I'm sure there's an explanation.
01:06:04Maybe we're looking at this all wrong.
01:06:06I don't know how else to see it.
01:06:08Is there another reason you're so concerned?
01:06:13Look, I've noticed how you look at her.
01:06:18So?
01:06:19Is it possible that's affecting your judgment?
01:06:23No.
01:06:24No, that's not it.
01:06:26You sure?
01:06:27You do seem to seek her out.
01:06:29Yeah, but...
01:06:31I'd like to think that no matter what I felt for her, I'd say something about what I've seen.
01:06:37No one.
01:06:37I saw you and Noah.
01:07:00Where'd you go?
01:07:02What do you want, Fiona?
01:07:03I want you to be careful.
01:07:05We don't want you scaring him off.
01:07:07I'm the last one who'd do that.
01:07:09If you ruin this with your pathetic feelings for Noah, Mom will be furious.
01:07:14Thanks for the warning.
01:07:15Isn't there another spot on this beach you can go to?
01:07:18Look, Mom needs this marriage to happen.
01:07:22With Jerry's debts and using all our money.
01:07:24It's the only way.
01:07:25It's the only way.
01:07:26What did you say?
01:07:28Bruce can make it all go away.
01:07:31He'd set us up for life.
01:07:33And maybe that would extend to you too.
01:07:36So, watch it.
01:07:50Hey.
01:07:51Hey.
01:07:52How was the beach?
01:07:54It was... sandy.
01:07:57Huh.
01:07:58That good, huh?
01:07:59Yeah.
01:08:04You okay?
01:08:06Do you want to get out of here and do something that will cheer us up?
01:08:10Yes, please.
01:08:22Sorry, is it too windy for you?
01:08:25No!
01:08:26I love it!
01:08:27Yeah?
01:08:28Yeah!
01:08:29Woo!
01:08:30Yeah!
01:08:31Yeah!
01:08:32Yeah!
01:08:33Yeah!
01:08:34How do you find these places?
01:08:35Have you been here before?
01:08:36Nah, I just did some research.
01:08:37I like the way that this place looked in the photos I saw online.
01:08:38With the cliffs.
01:08:39Yeah, maybe it's the architecture of it.
01:08:40Can you really call it that?
01:08:41When it's like...
01:08:42Can you really call it that?
01:08:43When it's like nature made?
01:08:44Why not?
01:08:45A lot of architecture is inspired by nature.
01:08:46Do you design a lot of buildings?
01:08:47Ah, not so much.
01:08:49Mostly...
01:08:50Mostly...
01:08:51Make sure things are following buildings.
01:08:52How do you find these places?
01:08:53How do you find these places?
01:08:54Have you been here before?
01:08:56Nah, I just did some research.
01:08:58I like the way that this place looked in the photos I saw online.
01:09:01With cliffs.
01:09:02Yeah, maybe it's the architecture of it.
01:09:05Can you really call it that when it's like nature made?
01:09:08Why not?
01:09:09A lot of architecture is inspired by nature.
01:09:11Do you design a lot of buildings?
01:09:13Ah, not so much.
01:09:15Mostly...
01:09:16Make sure things are following building codes and strong enough in the designs.
01:09:21So...
01:09:22Nothing falls apart?
01:09:23Yup.
01:09:24It's not glamorous, but...
01:09:25It's kind of important.
01:09:27Do you ever want to design?
01:09:29Yeah.
01:09:30You know, it's not my forte yet, but...
01:09:33One day...
01:09:34Who knows?
01:09:35Well...
01:09:36It's good to have dreams.
01:09:39I think it's cool that you do.
01:09:41Yeah?
01:09:42I'm not so sure about Fiona, though.
01:09:45Or Jerry.
01:09:47Jerry wants to be successful.
01:09:50Which, to him, means being rich.
01:09:53And...
01:09:54Fiona...
01:09:56I'm not quite sure she's settled on what she wants to do in life.
01:10:01So what was it like growing up with the Vanderbilts?
01:10:04Actually, Vanderbilt is my last name.
01:10:07Or my dad's.
01:10:08Miriam always liked it.
01:10:10She thought it made her seem...
01:10:11Wealthy...
01:10:12And important.
01:10:14Wow.
01:10:17Did you...
01:10:18Get along with Jerry and Fiona?
01:10:23Sometimes.
01:10:25What about Miriam?
01:10:26There were some hard times.
01:10:30It was difficult, I guess.
01:10:35Did you ever wish things were different?
01:10:39Of course.
01:10:40I mean...
01:10:41Who wouldn't?
01:10:42But...
01:10:44I like to think that I'm stronger...
01:10:47In the long run, because of...
01:10:49Everything.
01:10:50You are.
01:11:01Okay.
01:11:03Your turn to drive.
01:11:05Really?
01:11:10Woo!
01:11:20Oh, Jerry.
01:11:21We're making a nice dinner for everyone tonight.
01:11:22We?
01:11:23It's a way to celebrate before the wedding.
01:11:24Only two more days.
01:11:25Great.
01:11:26Oh, there you are.
01:11:27We need to go to the grocery store.
01:11:28Okay.
01:11:29Jerry, grab the car keys.
01:11:30We'll leave soon.
01:11:31Me too.
01:11:32What about Fiona?
01:11:33She wants to spend some time with Noah.
01:11:34Oh, let's stop pretending that's true.
01:11:35Hmm?
01:11:36Ashlyn, when we get back she'll make a nice dinner.
01:11:37Let's go.
01:11:38Yeah, there you are.
01:11:39We need to go to the grocery store.
01:11:40Okay.
01:11:41Jerry, grab the car keys.
01:11:42We'll leave soon.
01:11:43Me too.
01:11:44What about Fiona?
01:11:45She wants to spend some time with Noah.
01:11:47This better not take too long, I've got work to do.
01:11:51Let's stop pretending that's true.
01:11:52Hmm?
01:11:55Ashlyn.
01:11:56When we get back, we're going to play with the car keys,
01:11:58I'm going to play with the car keys.
01:12:00Yeah.
01:12:01Ashlyn, when we get back, I need you to cook the veggies and bake the rolls and dessert.
01:12:09Ashlyn?
01:12:11How were you ever planning to pay for my tuition when you have Jerry's gambling debt?
01:12:17You were gonna pay for her tuition?
01:12:20You have a lot of nerve.
01:12:22You didn't answer my question.
01:12:24And I don't have to.
01:12:26Do you even love Bruce? Or is he just a bank account to you?
01:12:31Get out! How could you lie to me?
01:12:34I didn't. I was going to pay for your tuition.
01:12:37You were?
01:12:38And now?
01:12:39Things change.
01:12:41No. No.
01:12:43They're the same as always.
01:13:01Can you show me how to hold this?
01:13:03I already did that.
01:13:05I mean, how to hit it.
01:13:07I did that too.
01:13:09Just try your best and take a shot.
01:13:18Whoops!
01:13:20Guess you'll have to teach me again.
01:13:22We're back!
01:13:24Need any help?
01:13:26No, no. You relax. We'll take care of it all.
01:13:29Is Ashlyn outside?
01:13:31No.
01:13:32Well, where is she?
01:13:34We, uh, had a little argument.
01:13:37She stayed in town to cool off.
01:13:39Is everything alright?
01:13:41It will be.
01:13:43What did you do?
01:13:44No, uh...
01:13:45It's Ashlyn's fault.
01:13:47She just wants to use Bruce for his money.
01:13:50Mom found out and confronted her.
01:13:52That doesn't sound like her.
01:13:54All she cares about is finding someone to pay off her tuition.
01:13:58Miriam?
01:13:59I'm sorry, Bruce.
01:14:03I thought we could keep the sight of her away from you.
01:14:08Well, this is...
01:14:10Certainly unexpected.
01:14:12Dad!
01:14:13Why don't we just try and set this aside for now?
01:14:16Fiona?
01:14:18Jerry?
01:14:19Come help in the kitchen.
01:14:26Not now.
01:14:29Ashlyn, are you alright?
01:14:43I'm fine.
01:14:45Where have you been?
01:14:47It doesn't matter.
01:14:50Listen, while you were gone, Miriam said some things.
01:14:53What else is new?
01:14:55I don't believe her, but you should know what's going on.
01:14:57I think that'll only make me more upset.
01:14:59What happened?
01:15:00I need to go, but...
01:15:03Thanks for caring.
01:15:06Thanks for caring.
01:15:07Thanks for caring.
01:15:08는데ence
01:15:11Where do you think you're going?
01:15:41The airport. Then home.
01:15:44No. You'll stay.
01:15:46Why?
01:15:48To sell the lie that we're some happy family?
01:15:51To help you pretend that you've treated me like anything close to your own child?
01:15:55You would have been better with a cardboard cutout.
01:15:57Maybe I should have ordered one.
01:15:59You love to act like you've had such a hard life.
01:16:03I don't think you realize how lucky you are.
01:16:07Lucky?
01:16:09I guess I have been in some ways.
01:16:12I left my home, my father's home, and I've made a life for myself.
01:16:16It's not perfect, but it's mine.
01:16:19And then you just had to have me come along.
01:16:22Did you only want me here so you could make me feel small again?
01:16:25Oh, spare me.
01:16:26I should have known better than to think you'd ever really help me.
01:16:31Paid my tuition?
01:16:32Why would you ever do that when you've never spent a dime of your own or my father's money on me before?
01:16:38Now, with Jerry's gambling, you expect Bruce to bail both of you out?
01:16:43We had a deal, which you broke.
01:16:46I owe you nothing.
01:16:49Your father chose me, Ashlyn.
01:16:52For better or for worse, that means something.
01:16:54No.
01:16:57It doesn't.
01:16:59Maybe if he was still here, things would have been different.
01:17:03But the moment he was gone, you showed your true colors.
01:17:07You only see your perspective.
01:17:10I've tried to see yours for years.
01:17:15And the only thing I can think of is that you just can't help putting me down so you can stand a little higher.
01:17:35We should talk.
01:17:36All this time, you've spoken of her as if she were a real daughter to you.
01:17:42What else was a lie?
01:17:43Nothing.
01:17:44You weren't there.
01:17:45I wish I had been.
01:17:46What's worse is that you don't even see what you've done as being small.
01:17:49Listen, everything will be just fine.
01:17:52I know how your dad can apologize, and Mom will totally forgive him.
01:17:56He's not the one that needs to apologize.
01:17:59He can figure out another way to pay for it.
01:18:01Miriam, I'm not worried about Jerry or the money.
01:18:04It's you and your manipulative schemes.
01:18:12Dad?
01:18:13Do you see my keys?
01:18:18Ashlyn went to the airport.
01:18:19She did?
01:18:20Let's go find her.
01:18:21What are the other options for changing the ticket?
01:18:28How much is that?
01:18:31Um...
01:18:33What about the later flight?
01:18:35Ashlyn!
01:18:37I'm so sorry.
01:18:38Can I clean back?
01:18:39Thanks.
01:18:41Noah?
01:18:43Don't go.
01:18:45I don't think I can stay.
01:18:47Please.
01:18:48Let's go somewhere and talk.
01:18:53I should have told you about Miriam.
01:18:56It's your past.
01:18:58Maybe it's none of my business.
01:19:00I can at least understand why it would have been hard for you to share anything.
01:19:04Still.
01:19:06I shouldn't have come just for her promise of help with my tuition.
01:19:10Glad you did.
01:19:12Wouldn't have met you if you hadn't.
01:19:14That should have been my first clue.
01:19:16Never meeting you.
01:19:18Miriam always had an excuse.
01:19:20I'm sorry I didn't see.
01:19:22Even Noah noticed.
01:19:24I just...
01:19:26Didn't want to think...
01:19:28She could have been such a different person than I thought.
01:19:31What will happen now?
01:19:32I don't know.
01:19:36It's made me doubt if Miriam ever really loved me.
01:19:39But...
01:19:40The house is paid for for a few more days.
01:19:42Noah and I plan to stay and make the most of this.
01:19:46I hope you'll stay too.
01:19:51Should we head back to the villa?
01:19:52Let's.
01:19:56Bruce.
01:19:58I saw the way Miriam talked to you.
01:20:01And how she looked at you.
01:20:03I've never seen her so...
01:20:08I think she does love you.
01:20:12Maybe she does.
01:20:14But without trust.
01:20:16I don't think love is enough.
01:20:22Bruce.
01:20:23I'm going to head to bed.
01:20:24Good night.
01:20:25Good night, Miriam.
01:20:28Good night.
01:20:29Good night.
01:20:30Good night.
01:20:31Good night.
01:20:32Good night, Miriam.
01:20:33Good night.
01:20:34Good night.
01:20:35I apologize for being so last-minute, but we're gonna have to cancel.
01:20:48Good night, Miriam.
01:20:57I apologize for it being so last minute, but we're gonna have to cancel.
01:21:01Thanks, Pastor, for understanding.
01:21:04At least this way you don't have to worry about any doves in the church.
01:21:08Okay, bye-bye.
01:21:10I appreciate it. Thanks.
01:21:15You two look busy.
01:21:17Yeah, we've been calling people all morning to let them know the wedding's off.
01:21:20The guests, the caterer, the church, the decorator.
01:21:24Anything I can do to help?
01:21:26We've got it covered.
01:21:28So, where's Miriam?
01:21:32Packing.
01:21:41What do you want?
01:21:44You're leaving.
01:21:45Yes.
01:21:47Happy?
01:21:48None of this makes me happy.
01:21:50Too late for take-backs.
01:21:52I guess so.
01:21:54I need to finish packing.
01:21:56In silence, if you don't mind.
01:21:59Our flight leaves soon.
01:22:02Fine.
01:22:03There's a lot that neither one of us can take back or change.
01:22:11And even if we could, I don't know if you'd want to.
01:22:15But if you did, I'd be okay with that.
01:22:19I'd want to...
01:22:20let it all go.
01:22:41The car's here.
01:22:42Take care, Noah.
01:22:43You can call, you know.
01:22:45Anytime.
01:22:46Oh.
01:22:47Um.
01:22:48Okay.
01:22:50Bye, Fiona.
01:22:51Jerry.
01:22:52Let's go.
01:22:54Well, uh...
01:22:56We don't want to be late.
01:22:57Miriam.
01:22:59Bye, Fiona.
01:23:01Jerry.
01:23:03Let's go.
01:23:05Well, uh...
01:23:07We don't want to be late.
01:23:09We don't want to be late.
01:23:11Miriam.
01:23:30Bye, Bruce.
01:23:38Hey.
01:23:49How are you feeling?
01:23:51I don't know.
01:23:53Trying to figure that out.
01:23:55I don't want them to hate me, but...
01:23:59I can't control that either.
01:24:01You're too sweet to hate.
01:24:05You know, um...
01:24:07Ever since the first day we met...
01:24:10I couldn't help but want to be around you.
01:24:12Me?
01:24:15Look at all that you've done.
01:24:17All that you're working towards.
01:24:19You inspire me.
01:24:21And, uh...
01:24:23You deserve to succeed and be happy.
01:24:27Thanks.
01:24:29That's really nice of you, but...
01:24:32What?
01:24:33I don't want anyone's pity.
01:24:37Ashlyn...
01:24:39I don't feel anything like pity for you.
01:24:43I care about you.
01:24:46I admire you.
01:24:50And I'm falling in love with you.
01:24:53You are?
01:24:55I'd be crazy not to.
01:24:58I mean, is...
01:25:00Is that okay?
01:25:02Yes.
01:25:03Yes, that's...
01:25:04That's more than okay.
01:25:08I've never felt like I could be honest about who I am, or my life.
01:25:13To be me, without waiting for someone to put me down.
01:25:17Until now.
01:25:19You're amazing.
01:25:21You know that?
01:25:23Sorry.
01:25:25You know that?
01:25:27Sorry.
01:25:28No, no, no.
01:25:33No, no, no...
01:25:35No, no, no, no...
01:25:37Well, one benefit of the baker's no return policy is this.
01:25:42Ta-da!
01:25:43Nice!
01:25:45No one help me hand this out?
01:25:48There you go.
01:25:49Ta-da! Nice.
01:25:51Noah, help me hand this out.
01:25:53There you go.
01:25:55Yes, and in this heat, we better eat it quickly.
01:25:59So should we just go for it then?
01:26:01Yeah, it's my cake, isn't it?
01:26:02Yes, it is.
01:26:03So what are we celebrating here?
01:26:05To the future.
01:26:07With all sorts of possibilities.
01:26:09I like that.
01:26:11To the future.
01:26:16Mmm, that's good.
01:26:19Great, I'm going from room to third wheel.
01:26:25Great, I'm going from room to third wheel.
01:26:27We're going from room to third wheel.
01:26:29We're going from room.
01:26:31We're going from room to room.
01:26:33We're going from room.
01:26:35It's a great day.
01:26:37It's a great day.
01:26:39It's beautiful.
01:26:40It's beautiful.
01:26:41I stayed away from room to room.
01:26:44Well, that's great.
