Interview with Willem Dafoe and Jesse Plemons
Transcript
00:00the through line of rmf appearing in all three stories like thematically i picked up on some
00:05connections between the three but i was wondering if you guys could speak to his character and like
00:10the greater meaning of him and why he's the one who shows up throughout the three i'm gonna let
00:15jesse oh how kind um it's tough to say because reading the script then shooting
00:26so much of it kind of depends on where you are when you encounter the script or watch it and so my
00:36opinion evolved and changed throughout shooting it um i don't know it was really funny someone i watched
00:46the someone that was at the screening in can said oh poor rmf i was like why are you kidding because
00:55of his shirt at the end because he spilled ketchup or mustard on his shirt uh the through line i i
01:01don't i i i i couldn't i don't can yorgos articulate that i don't know he wouldn't he wouldn't yeah
01:10i think it's it's kind of a game and it's like the film itself people are going to bring their
01:14experience to it and they're going to it's rich enough material that uh yeah people put it together
01:22the way the way they need to put it together but i think it's it's it's clear that it's not clear
01:30and it's a little bit of a game so if you're game for the game leap in and have a swing at it
01:38one thing this isn't fully an answer but one thing that i felt watching the movie for the first time
01:45that i hadn't thought about until i saw it was you know with the three films we're all playing different
01:50characters there was some sort of um reincarnation feeling that i got watching it um which it never
02:00occurred to me while i was shooting it and so maybe rmf is this constant sort of immortal uh figure that
02:08that i don't know or or a threat of nature you know that uh almost uh like a not a god figure but
02:17something that uh goes through everything yeah
