00:43this decision, the human impact and what might happen next. So let's begin.
00:51Afghans in Pakistan After decades of war in Afghanistan,
00:58millions of Afghans fled to Pakistan. Some came during the Soviet invasion in the 1980s,
01:07others during the USSR on terror, and many after the Taliban returned in 2021. Today, over 4 million
01:16Afghans live in Pakistan. But only about 1.4 million are officially registered as refugees.
01:25The rest are undocumented. And that's where the problem begins. Why Pakistan is taking action now
01:34in 2023? Pakistan's government announced a crackdown on illegal immigrants.
01:39Afghan nationals. And Afghan nationals became the main focus. But why now?
01:47So here are the key reasons. The first reason we are having that is security concerns. The government
01:58claims some Afghan nationals are linked to militant groups or involved in crimes. Though not all Afghans are
02:05involved. This fear has fueled public pressure. The second reason, border tensions. Pakistan and Afghanistan's
02:16relationship has been tense, especially over the TDP-Taliban Pakistan. Pakistan believes the Afghan
02:25Taliban are not doing enough to stop cross-border attacks. The third reason, economic pressure.
02:33With high inflation and unemployment, Pakistan says it can't support undocumented migrants anymore.
02:44And the fourth reason, that is political distraction. Some say this move is also a way to shift
02:51attention from Pakistan's internal issues. How deportation is happening? Since late 2023, Pakistan began
03:02mass deportations. Refuge camps were cleared. Police carried out raids in cities like Karachi,
03:09East Namabad and Qaeda. Thousands of families were forced to leave. Some voluntarily, others under pressure.
03:17They are taken to holding centers and then to the Afghan border. Even Afghans with valid refuge cards have been
03:26harassed in some cases. Humanitarian concerns. This decision has caused a humanitarian crisis.
03:37Families are being split. And children are losing access to schools they used to study here.
03:47Many are returning to a country they barely know under Taliban rule. And aid agencies have warned that
