'Probable cause' to hold Trump administration in contempt over El Salvador deportations

Judge Boasberg accused administration officials of rushing deportees out of the country under the Alien Enemies Act last month before they could challenge their removal in court.

00:00A US federal judge has said he's found probable cause to hold the Trump administration in
00:06contempt of court for violating his order to turn around planes carrying deportees to
00:11El Salvador.
00:15Judge Boersberg said he could initiate legal proceedings if officials do not return to
00:20US custody those who were sent to the Central American country in breach of his order.
00:27The Trump administration has said it will appeal the ruling.
00:32Meanwhile, Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen travelled to El Salvador on Wednesday to advocate
00:38for the release of Kilma Abrego Garcia, a man deported in March despite a court order blocking
00:44his removal.
00:45I'm asking President Bukele, under his authority as president of El Salvador, to do the right
00:53thing and allow Mr. Abrego Garcia to walk out of prison.
01:00Van Hollen claims he was told the Salvadoran government would not return Abrego Garcia and
01:07denied his request to visit him in detention.
