00:00If you're not inside that 10-12% body fat mark, the majority of women are going to find you a lot less desirable as if you were.
00:06Looksmaxing was a trend that started in incel communities, saying that if a man improved his looks, he'd be more successful, wealthy, and attract the opposite sex.
00:14So, is this just the latest male beauty trend, or does it verge on body dysmorphia?
00:20I spoke to Dean Robertson, the founder of looksmaxing.com, a forum with over 18,000 users.
00:26He's been looksmaxing for the past four years.
00:28Like most guys, I knew that looks were important, but I didn't realise just how much of an impact they have on a person's life.
00:34I think it could be due to societal pressures men face regarding the representation of masculinity and success.
00:39While women face many beauty standard pressures, looksmaxing is specifically targeted at young men, often those who are looking for community.
00:47But, given the trend's incel roots, boards are often filled with hate speech and sexism.
00:52You might have seen looksmaxing content and not even realised it.
00:56One technique is called mewing.
00:57People are telling you that if you put your tongue in a certain position, you can change the shape of your face and look more masculine or look more snatched.
01:04Is it going to do any long-term changes to your face?
01:07Unfortunately not.
01:08And how is this trend affecting young men mentally?
01:10I think it's on the same spectrum as body dysmorphia.
01:13People have unrealistic expectations as to what they look like.
01:17I think the best advice that I can give as a doctor is to work on your mental health and get yourself nice and confident in your body because, you know, you'll just be on a path to never being happy, unfortunately.
01:29But recently...
01:30I think it's important to me and I think it seems to be interesting.
01:30That's great.
01:31I think it's important to you and I think the状況 will be on someone.
01:31I would say it's important to you and it's correct here.
01:31But, you can be honest when I'm just wrong with them in your school.
01:32And I think it will be 100% of you and it will be the same way.
01:32And I think it's important to you and that?
01:33And then, I think that's really great because there's not going to be a pretty bad thing on what they're saying.
01:33What kind of way in your state is счит that there will be aBeat Ops I am having the family trip to be a alternative.
01:35This is still one reason to be a primary care specialist who says it is to be a孩子 perception of a network that is trying to do
01:36people that they are not a lot of confidence and you
