00:00What's going on?
00:02So welcome back to Renee and Sterling and newbies Leo and Anthony
00:08Nice and here's the thing Leo Renee are now doing all the you know the big premieres
00:13You know their new Bridget Jones movie. So what have you done? You've done Paris and London?
00:19Are you enjoying them? Oh always yeah, so much fun. There you go
00:25Leo have you done this class of thing before? No
00:30The first one was Paris on Monday, and it was the yeah, my first ever one
00:36I'd never done the sort of autograph signing or anything like that. And how did it go with the French people?
00:43Very nice because I heard there was some confusion. Oh, there was yes
00:52There was a guy who had this big poster this big Bridget Jones poster. Yeah
00:58And he said this is for you and I said I went to sign it and
01:04but no
01:06This is for you and I went
01:09I tried to sign it again and he said no this is for you
01:12And he pointed at Hugh Grant
01:18I saw him and it clicked
01:22H is in French
01:23He was really angry
01:26And Sterling and Anthony, am I right that you know each other and have for a while
01:30We graduated from school same year. He's a Juilliard guy. I'm an NYU guy
01:35We had big beef. If you don't know what that means, that's like
01:39uh, who are the soccer teams? Like Tuttenham and Berkersham
01:42Tuttenham
01:43What do y'all call those soccer teams?
01:45What were you talking about Tuttenham and Everbens?
01:48And over there, Wilshire, Wilshire and Tuttenham
01:52That's what it was like back then
01:55We met, we had a softball game between uh, our two schools or whatever
02:00And Mackie is very self-confident likes to talk a lot of trash or whatnot
02:04I was 18!
02:06He was 18
02:07And so I like to, you know, put him in his place from time to time
02:10We won, we won
02:11Did you?
02:11We won
02:12I don't remember it that way
02:13Man, you're too old, you don't remember it, bro
02:15It wasn't like that
02:17I already don't believe you
02:18We won!
02:19Thank you very much
02:20We had a good time, man
02:21We've known each other a while and it's been really interesting
02:24to just see people's careers go from like weird
02:27Unknowns actors doing our thing and then you go out into the world and you get blessed to get work
02:32And not everybody is still doing it 25 years later from the classes that we went to
02:36Yeah
02:36So to be here to be with you right now is a blessing man
02:40It's a dream come true
02:40Well, it's a blessing for us
02:41It's something to have you here
02:46Hey, we're gonna kick off tonight uh, with Renee Zellweger and Leah Woodall
02:50In the return of Bridget Jones Mad About The Boy
02:54Uh, it's the fourth adventure of Helen Fielding's famous character
02:58It's in cinemas from the 13th of February
03:01Just in time for valentine's day as it was
03:04And i was telling you back to you know like all the bridget jones films
03:07It's very very funny
03:08But this hits differently
03:11It doesn't start in a funny place for bridget
03:13Yeah, no, it's it's not quite the happy ending that we were set up to expect in the third installment
03:18Um, yeah bridget's a single mom and uh yeah
03:22She's kind of trying to process a little bit of grief and figure out how to start again
03:27And she's a widow i mean yeah
03:29That's right yeah i know mark darcy guys oh
03:32That's not a spoiler you'll find out
03:34No no the book's been out for a long time yeah
03:36Yeah the book's been out a while yeah well and Helen says it's her most personal of the you know of the bridget jones um chapters
03:43Uh because it's her it's her you know her own and was it weird kind of bridget jones
03:50Being in this truly dark place
03:53Well only a moment she still does it in her own way
03:55You know the essence of bridget is still you know very familiar
04:00Um but i think it's true for anybody who's made it to this stage in life
04:04You know you don't get here without knowing grief
04:07I don't think it would be an authentic representation if you didn't have a little struggle you know what i mean
04:11Yeah yeah so and you know the consequences of your decisions are just a little bit more
04:15You know there's more that hangs in the balance when you get to this point
04:19And then bridget mead's rockster so leo uh who is a rockster
04:24Uh he's a young lad he works at the
04:27Nasty
04:29Oh so you've seen it oh yeah yeah you've seen it i know where it is going
04:36I'm mopping what you're still oh yeah
04:39Yeah that does look like a nasty boy yeah there he's nasty you're a park ranger
04:44A park ranger oh i bet you are
04:45Yeah i bet you are yeah yeah with your little polaris excuse me miss are you lost
05:03I couldn't even drive that
05:06Hey we've got a clip from the movie and uh this
05:09So this is so you two have already met but this is rockster meeting bridget's friends for the first time it goes well
05:16I feel bad that must was that a really like heart making scene to have to film
05:35I mean it was fun that was in november
05:39No it was in august and everyone else was like boiling and i was the only one that could swim
05:42I could not could swim go in the pool you're right though the dog could swim so
05:48I don't really know why i needed to go in
05:49I like the way you're confident i'm like oh poor cold dog let me let me make sure you're safe
05:55It was like it was i mean i felt the pressure because i knew that it was
05:59scripted as a scene that was you know all these people ogre at him and
06:02on the day i was like what if i'm unoggleable and you know
06:06i was in the pool and i they gave me this like terrified little wet dog and
06:13obviously i cared for it and so i i did hear a couple of people by the pool just going
06:20wow look at that and then i knew that it was gonna go right
06:25so it worked it works it works well executed yeah and uh really this is your fourth time
06:30as bridget jones so does it get easier or is it still kind of a shock to the system
06:36because you didn't know you were going to go back that's really well put yeah a little bit like
06:40that yeah it was weird this time i thought this time it would be familiar and easier but it just
06:45it wasn't it wasn't i try and start talking like bridget as soon as i arrived in london and
06:51tricky dicky who's been driving me around for 25 years kind of look at me sideways you know
06:59you're a little drunk over there
07:02now leo rockster wasn't supposed to sound like you i'd have to bring that up
07:10his name is rockster mcduff yeah he was he was supposed to be scottish and i i i went into the
07:17audition and prepared it in scottish and i mean you can read between the lines you know changed
07:25their mind about the force of the character but no but you can do accents because i think a lot
07:30of people if they're watching now and they've only seen you in the white lotus they've assumed you were
07:35that essex boy yeah a lot of people thought i was a real essex boy yeah very disappointed when they
07:41heard me speak out loud but how did you prepare for that honestly i watched um joe essex
07:48i just watched the only way do you guys know i'm trying to figure out where essex is i'm like
07:52is that over there by totten yeah yeah yeah totten bam yeah it's not that far totten
08:02totten bam maybe a bit a bit more so the essex accent is different than the traditional london accent
08:09is it like is it like a guy richie movie accent or is it like guy richie said typically like cockney
08:15yeah okay and cockney is not near essex essex is kind of like the rich cockneys
08:20it's kind of or there'll be letters
08:23okay okay okay okay okay okay yeah i could have just said that what do i know i'm from ireland
08:48now rennie zelberger we use as surprised as a lot of people will be that hugh grant is back in
08:55bridget jones yes yeah
08:59i was hopeful i mean i was surprised because he's dead so
09:05but oh i mean i mean if you're gonna bring somebody back to life let it be daniel cleaver
09:09you know what i mean come on come on yeah i'm glad that they did that i'm glad they found him alive at
09:14the end of three so that he could have the opportunity to change his mind and come back
09:18if he wanted to and is it true that he kind of he wrote his own bits oh i think he always does oh
09:24does he oh yeah really okay no because he was on here telling us and i was thinking i wonder if that's
09:28true he's given license by the director to just sort of vamp they don't have a choice
09:36no he improvises he's so clever and it's such treasure why would you why would you censor that
09:41he's so brilliant because leo do you did you work with hugh grant at all no oh no i know i met him when
09:47the french guy oh with the poster thing i was very impressed yeah that was literally your first
09:54meeting yeah across the crowd i'd seen him i'd i'd seen him two times in that day and i was too
09:59shy to say hello and i yeah i didn't get to work with him everyone kept saying what's it like what's
10:04he like i i don't know i haven't met him you know what's crazy is that you do these movies and if it's a
10:09big ensemble movie if you don't have scenes with folks you can go to a whole movie without seeing
10:13people ever but everybody out there thinks you guys are hanging out together all the time yeah yeah and
10:16then you do the press and you're like oh nice to meet you yeah yeah the best part is when you show
10:21up to the premiere and find people who are in the movie yeah like i didn't know you was in you knew
10:32Hugh Grant was in it so that's that's good and you can see her every day and leo and Hugh Grant in
10:38Bridget Jones mad about the boy from the 13th of february that's when that's in cinemas very good
10:43right on guys thank you uh mr sterling k brown brings us a new thriller series it's called
10:52paradise it's available to stream now on disney plus so this is a tricky one to talk about yeah tell
10:58us as much as you can who are you what do we think's going on oh boy okay go so it is a political
11:04thriller um i can tell you early on in the pilot the president is killed my character xavier collins is a
11:11secret service agent on the presidential detail responsible for his health and safety i'm clearly
11:16not doing a good job because my man is dead dead blood pulling out of his head so we're trying to
11:22figure out who killed him why they killed him how they broke in through our defenses etc but if you've
11:28ever if you know this is us at all does anybody know of the show yes okay dan folgerman loves to
11:33throw a few curveballs at you so you think we're gonna zig and we oftentimes zag so the death of the
11:39president is really just the tip of the iceberg it's a very i can't say oh god it is uh on the
11:46edge of your seat thriller that has you constantly asking questions and questioning everything that
11:52you see yeah it's better the least i tell you the more enjoyable your experience will be the first three
11:58episodes are out right now do this like take it to the vein it's gonna be it's gonna be nice
12:03i would say all i would say is certainly i think the end of episode one yeah there is such a huge
12:10twist huge huge huge yeah you're saying huge right yeah i'm trying is is hugh grant here
12:19come on out huge
12:25we've got a clip we've got a clip this is you uh xavier collins and you've just found the president and
12:31as you mentioned not doing very bad at his job very terrible very bad i love all the clues so
12:36many clues thank you yeah yeah a lot of clues a lot of clues so that guy on the ground was the
12:44president he was the president in case you missed that played by james marsden some of his best work
12:52he gets to do more than that yeah he does he does some of his best work yeah and now i should say
12:56in real life you have spent time in the actual white house oh yeah man yeah yeah yeah i uh under
13:03the obama administration i went to uh i went to the white house and this was i love this because
13:12anything that makes my wife jealous is something that i actually live for i was in the receiving
13:17line and michelle obama was greeting people and it was like a key and pill sketch man like she was
13:22shaking all the white people's hands and everything i was like michelle she was like sterile hugged so
13:27deep fun so lovingly and i was like i told my wife after i was done i was like you know michelle obama
13:33hugged me i know sterling i know you told me there's a picture of it and everything that's awesome i saw it
13:40so you mentioned your wife that you so how long have you been 19 years 19 years this much wow wow
13:46congratulations well there you are that's like 52 in hollywood view but i've heard you talking about
13:53how uh to begin with when you started dating a lot of resistance from her family yeah man golly my it's
14:01been a road with my in-laws um so what's interesting is they saw me in a play with her i did joe turn is
14:09come and gone an august wilson play and i played this guy harold loomis who's a bit sort of unmoored and
14:14untethered and so she met me and she told ryan she said i don't care who you date just don't date
14:19that boy and she pointed right at me right wow then we started dating like a couple of years later
14:24her mom had a dream that i was gonna like break her heart so my wife stopped talking to me because
14:29her mom told her about this dream impressionable young women and their moms it's a strong sort of
14:35thingamajigger but like it wasn't really until well two things happened number one i gave her
14:40grandchildren and so she kind of had to back up i was like if you want to see these grandkids
14:44you kind of got it otherwise it's not going to work and then something weird even happened too
14:51when i i won the emmy for people versus oj and she wanted to throw me a party and i was like you
14:59didn't want to throw me no parties before i won this right and now all of a sudden like we best friends
15:04so we're good now i've created i've created boundaries we're good we're good yeah it's all good
15:13now so here's the thing so you and your wife very very happy it's all good it's golden her family
15:19like you yes but you did have a break a break in the marriage no in you in your relationship
15:29in your relationship i know what you're talking about yeah i was like you're telling me something
15:33that i don't know
15:35you ain't no but you're single yeah they're just telling me in my ear
15:40we were we were dating this is a mad story we have a video from your wife we were dating at nyu
15:49and i was getting ready to go to the williamstown theater festival for the summer have a wonderful
15:53time and i took her to see a couple of plays we're having a great time come back home and the new j-lo
15:59video had just dropped on mtv i can't remember it was my love don't cost a thing whatever song was
16:04okay from the box i'm watching the video i'm a fan of how j-lo moves acts on camp professional
16:13so professionalism so check it out she's moving on the camera i'm like oh this is interesting
16:19i'm enjoying what i see the professionalism as a young man what you learn is if you're enjoying
16:26what you're seeing with your young girlfriend next to you change the gd channel because you're not
16:33gonna win this one and so in trying not to have a reaction gram knowing that my wife is like over my
16:39face watching me watch j-lo and trying to be deadpan all of a sudden my eyes begin to water
16:47my wife sees my eyes watering and she says are you crying over j-lo
16:52i say i'm not crying my eyes are watering because i know you're looking for a reaction
16:58and i'm trying not to give you a rat and she left she bounced out and we wound up breaking up
17:04for like over a year and you didn't try to get with j-lo
17:12i couldn't do anything but it all worked out we've been married for 19 years two kids
17:17the top everything worked out oh my god thank god
17:23just a reminder uh paradise starring sunday k brown is streaming right now on disney plus
17:30meanwhile anthony mackie is captain america in captain america brave new world
17:36it's in cinemas from the 14th of february check this out
17:52the best part when you go see this movie when you look at red hulk when he does it it's so detailed
17:58it's really amazing first time i've seen this in cinematic history it's a marvel
18:02so hulk has gray chest hair and i was like that's a touch that is somebody went to detail
18:13like that was good that was good and so tell us this is your debut as captain america there's a
18:19lot going on what's a lot what could you tell us what is happening well didn't kill the president
18:22but uh bro so we come into it we see uh sam wilson who is now captain america taking over the shield
18:34from steve rogers and uh ross the president played by harrison ford harrison ford she's disappointed
18:43harrison ford's not here he calls uh sam wilson to the white house to ask him to restart the avengers
18:52because the world needs to be safe again and from that all kind of ensues yeah and that's where we
19:00are uh at the kickoff of the movie and it's i mean is absolutely epic and famously in the last
19:06avengers movie chris evans former captain america he gives you the shield right so when you saw that in
19:12the script that's chris evans by the way when you saw that in the script random shot of chris
19:18like there's one lady back there who is this chris evans siri who's chris evans
19:26but did you know that was going to happen i didn't um we were hanging out we were shooting uh end game
19:32in atlanta and chris being chris he's like yo you know why don't y'all come over to watch football on
19:38sunday so i come in chris is like oh man like i'm so proud i'm so happy for you this is great and i was
19:44like because i found your house no i mean it's just really great i'm like yeah yeah yeah it's
19:52a really nice house chris football he goes oh yeah i'm excited about football he goes no you haven't
19:56read the pages i was like what pages you haven't seen the pages i said no and and this is sunday so
20:04we get the pages on friday for the rest of the week so he runs away i mean literally jumps over the couch
20:11and runs away right so i go and he had this it was a really cool house he had a trap door that went
20:17down into the basement it was a game room crazy but it was ahead of abraham lincoln you pulled abraham
20:23lincoln back and the trap it was crazy right there's a lot going on there's a lot going on so we go down
20:29and he has all the pages laid out and stuff and he gives me the scene and he's standing there looking
20:34at me like a proud dad like you know and i read the scene and i'm like this can't be real he goes
20:43that's the scene that's what we're shooting this week that you you you're getting a shield
20:48so we literally jumped up and down and hugged each other
20:51it was really funny dude because i was so excited but i was thinking back at it now i was so surprised
21:07how excited he was because i'm like you're about to be unemployed do you not understand
21:14do you not understand but that's so mad because i think we'd all think that that must be such a huge
21:20you know people are talking to people and but it's just it's written in and there you go and you would
21:25never know it so what they do is so it all started with sam jackson okay sam jackson was at work they
21:32send him the first avengers script his assistant downloads the script goes into office and presses
21:38print on the computer it doesn't come out they call the tech the tech comes works on the printer
21:44the script comes out he takes it to sam but he had clicked it twice so a second script came out
21:52once he had left pa on the movie found the script in the printer and sold it
22:01then the whole script was online this is okay that makes a lot listen when i did panther what happens
22:08you show up that day they give you your sides for the day and then at the end of the day
22:14a young 25 year old girl like hey there like can i get your sides back and i was like i don't get
22:19to give them she's like no one time i didn't give them back i left them somewhere and they're like
22:27oh it's okay i'll go with you and so you can we'll find them and she'll just walk right behind me and
22:31waited until i got that script and you gave it back and because you can't leak stuff i mean is that
22:35is that just marvel or like british jones no no no did you ever borrow somebody's size i didn't feel
22:41that dramatic for me a lot more drama existed now when i get a script now literally a 21 year old
22:51gets on a plane and flies to new orleans comes to the door face to face i have to sign for the script
22:58they take a picture of the script in my hand with my name on on every page is that what you got every
23:03every page close lock the door they fly back to la that day yeah it's true hey i got an email
23:09you you are roxa mcduff yeah scottish jump in the pool jump in the pool somebody and they've got
23:28their name on it you know and then you leave them someplace on the set and you don't know where you
23:34left them yeah oh i did that i did that on this set in fact oh right yeah we shot bridget john
23:39is on this set we shot all of the um in studio stuff you know that oh the show the the show is
23:45that here yeah this is bridget's office
23:55it's awful because you do you have to go hunting because somebody's gonna get in trouble
24:00somebody's gonna get in trouble well it wasn't gonna be me that day but i felt really bad yeah we
24:04have to find those find those scripts they take it seriously very seriously oh i was i was so
24:09so uncareful about
24:13well done it could only get better and as a reminder uh captain america uh starring anthony mackie is going
24:19to be in cinemas from the 14th of february it's valentine's day i know ladies take your man to go see
24:29captain america's valentine's day look at it this way your significant other has spent 364 days
24:37celebrating you listening to how crazy your friends are listening to how bad your day was give him one
24:44day say you know what hubby bubby booby today is your day this valentine day is yours so take him to
24:52his favorite restaurant it could be chilis it could be burnt because we're guys so it could be buffalo
24:57wing it could be anything take him to his favorite restaurant and take him to the movies and then
25:03take him home and celebrate him for captain america all right well sold well so let's keep the celebration
25:13going and meet our next guest since her grammy award-winning debut album in 1983 this pop legend
25:19has sold over 50 million records worldwide including hits like time after time true colors and girls just
25:26who want to have fun but now she's embarking on her farewell tour please welcome cindy laupper
25:43and are there any of these people you've met before or renee i've seen you guys we've seen
26:07years i saw you yeah adore you like truly you're awesome i can't believe you're retiring but it's not
26:12like j-lo
26:25it's a more it's different let it go let it go i love it yes now listen uh this tour you're also
26:34gonna have fun it's the farewell tour it's coming to the uk and europe and next month and i guess
26:39my question is you know what made you kind of think oh i'm gonna say farewell now what what prompted
26:45this well actually it was uh i i did a documentary you know because during the pandemic that everybody's
26:54like well you ought to do a documentary and i said well i'm not dead yet i don't want to do that
26:58and they said maybe you ought to because at least you could fix it if it's wrong right so so i said
27:04okay and then we did this documentary and then we did the companion this is let the canary sing
27:09let the canary sing and um that's another story but you could always you know flip through the
27:14channels and you can find out what why it's called that it's too long a story to go there but um
27:19um i was in i was in a lawsuit and uh sometimes you're gonna let the canary sing yeah yeah yeah
27:28it's too long a story it's this no to truncate everything i was in a suit and the the judge
27:35at the end finally said he took the gallery said let the canary sing and that's why oh
27:41so you've made the documentary you've got the companion album and everybody was saying come
27:48on maybe you should do a farewell tour and i started to think about it and i'm like farewell tour okay
27:56a real farewell tour because i've been on those farewell tours with people and there's another one in 10
28:02years which is okay but like for me i'm 71 and i want to follow her it's sort of it's sort of mad
28:13that cindy orper is 71. if you're applauding that i'm 71 it's like with joan rivers she always said
28:19with her age and they applauded you know because maybe she might drop dead on the show and then it
28:26would be more exciting because did you see that show i don't know like no i don't know we're there yet
28:32no i'm not there yet no but this this show is actually everything that i love i think it was a
28:40good time especially i toured last year through the states um it's a good time to bring people
28:48together to celebrate you know a safe space let your freak flag fly come on we even sell colored wigs
28:57and all the proceeds of those wigs go to the girls just want to have fundamental rights fund where
29:04women we we support well you have to do something but we support organizations that um give women uh
29:16safe and legal abortions prenatal care postnatal care and cancer screening and everything for women's
29:24health that is not happening around the world so there's that well done it's a fun tour it has
29:35everything but it sounds like a work of art it sounds it is it's got art it's got fashion and it's an
29:42arena tour and it really is my farewell tour i'm excited to play great britain i played great britain
29:49before yeah and people were so incredible but i'm you know i can i'm strong now i can do
29:57the show yeah but is it emotional at the end of a night thinking i'm not going to play here again
30:02i don't think like that because i'm usually having a heart attack before now if you suck you told all
30:12these people that to come and if you suck it's your fault so oh my god you feel that before every show
30:18don't you no you don't you're active well i get many i get many takes so it's not the same sort of high
30:26wire act as if you're doing a play well you feel a little bit of a butterfly but i look at it as an
30:30athlete like i'm ready to play i'm excited to be on the field don't you have to be an athlete to do
30:36absolutely anyway absolutely yeah i work five hours before i even get there with all the pt then and
30:44that takes an hour and that's just physical therapy and then maybe you want to do the yoga the weights
30:50then there's an hour and a half of singing and then you go to soundcheck and then you gotta sing a
30:54little more so you don't get all frozen you know and then after you come out for soundcheck you gotta
31:00like warm back down again maybe get on the bike and eat as fast as you can because soon it's gonna
31:07be hair and makeup and you know so no but honestly when um like montreal was the first gig and i'm always
31:19sitting there going oh god okay you want to play an arena good for you you know you better do good and
31:26i was so shocked because they came out and graham they were filled up to the rafters and then i
31:35started to cry oh because i couldn't you know i couldn't believe it but i knew that i remember what
31:42michael jordan always said you know i had a boy so you know i was always watching all the sports shows
31:48you know and all the documentaries on sports so and he always said that this may be the only time
31:55people ever see you so make sure it's your best and before i go on i take a deep breath and i say okay
32:05you you think you can't do it but you can and also just be who you are right now and so what you don't
32:14have a superman cape and you want to be superman but you're not you're just you yeah so then you
32:20let go and just hope that the spirit you can ride the spirit and also that all those people they love
32:25you they've come to see you they're seeing you while they can yeah but you want to be good yes

34:35yeah i've been i've been at this for a hot minute you know so like you think that you know when you
34:43see an is you see any artist that has a large amount of success you think it happened over
34:46and it never happens overnight i mean there are anomalies don't get twisted but realistically

35:50young women feel just like that and a lot of young women felt like that when I
35:55was coming up and that's just how you feel because of the society and the way
