00:00Rapper Lil Nas X is dealing with facial paralysis, and fans are now drawing comparison to Justin Bieber.
00:06On Monday, Lil Nas X, whose given name is Montario Lamar Hill, posted a video to his Instagram account
00:13revealing that he had lost control of the right side of his face.
00:16This is me doing a full smile right now, by the way.
00:20Fans quickly started sending in well wishes, while others began speculating about the cause,
00:26as the Old Town Road artist did not share a diagnosis.
00:29Many online pointed to Ramsey-Hunt syndrome, comparing Lil Nas X's facial paralysis to that of Justin Bieber.
00:36According to reports, in 2022, Bieber shocked fans with a video showing his face frozen from Ramsey-Hunt syndrome.
00:43Banner Health states Ramsey-Hunt syndrome is a condition caused by the chickenpox or shingles virus,
00:49which lies dormant in your body after a previous exposure, and can lead to facial paralysis,
00:54loss of taste, ear pain, hearing loss, and even vertigo.
00:58And with the artist's videos looking very similar in their facial movements,
01:02it's natural that fans started wondering if it's the same condition.
01:06But others think it might be something else.
01:09According to Dr. Panosian, a board-certified plastic surgeon,
01:12who does not appear to be associated with Lil Nas X,
01:15but does treat both Bell's palsy and Ramsey-Hunt syndrome as a part of his private practice,
01:20suggested the rapper's symptoms look more like Bell's palsy.
01:23In a post on X, the surgeon stated,
01:26there is no specific cause for it, but it is associated with some type of inflammation of
01:31the facial nerve, which controls your facial muscles.
01:34It is also associated with a viral infection, such as the common cold, flu, and perhaps COVID.
01:40So unlike Ramsey-Hunt syndrome, reports state Bell's palsy tends to be temporary,
01:45and most people fully recover.
01:47And judging by Lil Nas X's latest Instagram stories, he seems to be doing better already.
01:52The artist even told fans not to worry, showing off his usual chaotic sense of humor,
01:57and reminding everyone he's still that guy.
02:00But what do you think?
02:01Is it Bell's palsy, Ramsey-Hunt syndrome, or something else entirely?
