00:00History on a Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club.
00:03Rory McIlroy wins the first green jacket of his career.
00:07He can now officially add master's champion to his illustrious resume.
00:12His first major championship DRS in 11 years.
00:16And it's the last one that Rory needed to complete the career Grand Slam.
00:19There you see it, a PGA champion twice.
00:23Won the United States Open back in 2011.
00:26The champion golfer of the year at the Open in 2014.
00:30It took him 11 years, more than a decade, to finally complete the career Grand Slam.
00:36But now he has done it.
00:37The sixth ever golfer to do it.
00:39The first since Tiger Woods back in 2000.
00:42The second since Jack Nicklaus accomplished this feat back in 1966.
00:48It is rarefied error for Rory McIlroy.
00:51And you saw the emotion spill over on the 18th green.
00:55But his 19th hole of the day, his 73rd of the tournament.
01:00Donnie, to me, after all that we saw.
01:02A final round that signified everything that Rory McIlroy has dealt with in major championships.
01:09Gut punch, heartbreak, only to finally get to the top of the pinnacle in golf once again.
01:16It was one of the coolest scenes I have ever seen in golf.
01:19To see a superstar, one of the greats of his generation, have all of the emotions spill out.
01:25To express the humanity we desire out of the greatest athletes in one moment.
01:30This tournament truly made me emotional and was one of the greatest scenes I have seen in sports in some time.
01:36Yeah, Ben getting emotional on a Sunday at the Masters tournament.
01:40Gotta love to see it here.
01:40But also, understand this.
01:43Rory's got everything you could want in life, right?
01:46Everything going right.
01:47Major champion golfer, millions of dollars in the bank, cashes $4.2 million on Sunday.
01:51But sometimes you play for your own self-pride as well.
01:55Like completing the circle.
01:56Like being one of those golfers that finally got all four majors, which is such a tough feat to do.
02:01And maybe the biggest one that you wanted the most and waited so long for was that Masters jacket.
02:05And you see the role coming up right now.
02:07Just that feeling of putting on that green jacket and understanding like, you know what?
02:12I finally did it.
02:13Now every year when I come back here, I'm a champion.
02:15I get to go to the champions dinner.
02:17You get looked at a little bit.
02:18And again, I'm not saying anybody ever looked down at Rory's career.
02:20It's been fantastic Hall of Fame all the way through.
02:22But just putting that green jacket on really feels comfortable.
02:25Like a kid that's growing up in like the UK or Europe.
02:27You always want to win the British Open, the Open Championship, right?
02:31But outside of that, it's always been that green Masters jacket.
02:34You go back to that golf course time and time again.
02:36You're a champion.
02:37And even in that post-round presser, Rory sits there and goes,
02:40Hey, what are you guys going to ask me next year?
02:41Because every question I ask you for the last decade is,
02:44When are you going to win a Masters?
02:46It's like, phew, what a relief.
02:47I got it done.
02:48Now I can enjoy it.
02:49And away you go.
02:50And watch out now.
02:51You know, you take a look at that, you know, chunk off the shoulder at this point.
02:54And you say to yourself for Rory.
02:55For sure.
02:56I could just play carefree all over the place.
02:58Maybe he stacks up even more majors now.
03:00Our last four Masters champions DRS have won multiple times on the PGA Tour,
03:06entering when they won at Augusta.
03:09Rory has accomplished that victory number three this year.
03:13But he did make history yesterday.
03:15Rory McIlroy not just winning a green jacket, but the first to ever do so with four double bogeys in his tournament or worse.
03:24He doubled 15 and 17 on Thursday, one in 13 on Sunday.
03:30DRS, what were the two spectacular shots that got Rory McIlroy back for a chance to win a green jacket after the disastrous double on 13 on 15 and 17?
03:43Two of the great iron shots of his career.
03:47And a hat tip very quickly to Justin Rose, who sadly has his own story of heartbreak at Augusta.
03:53Has led the most rounds at Augusta National without ever winning a green jacket.
03:59Was a round one leader.
04:00And yesterday fired a final round 66, six under to force that playoff against Rory McIlroy.
04:08The two playoffs we have seen DRS at the Masters in the last decade.
04:122017 and yesterday in 2025, Justin Rose has been featured in both.
04:17And Rosie has come up ever so short in both.
04:21Still hunting down that first green jacket in his career as well.
04:25He was all class on that 18th green, allowing Rory McIlroy to have that moment.
04:30They have been Ryder Cup teammates for a very long time.
04:33They are close friends.
04:34Sometimes it doesn't go your way, but I thought Justin Rose was great yesterday to allow that moment to be all that it was
04:41for Rory McIlroy.
04:43You're right.
04:43And also take a look at the tournament Justin Rose has.
04:45We always like to say, well, what if a guy did this?
04:47I don't know.
04:48Shot 65 on the opening Thursday and then close with a 66.
04:51Was he Tiger Woods?
04:52Did he win by 15 shots at that point?
04:54Because he probably was fantastic on Friday and Saturday as well.
04:5771 followed by a 75.
04:59But you're right.
04:59The pressure in those moments.
05:01Professional athlete.
05:02You can be there.
05:03Have done it before.
05:04It doesn't matter.
05:05When you're lining up that shot with so much on the line and millions watching.
05:09Boy, sometimes it's hard to execute.
05:11You just feel good for Rory McIlroy.
05:12He goes to street pick.
05:13You know what?
05:13I did do it.
05:15Yes, he certainly did.
05:18One final look back at Augusta National Golf Club in the 2025 Masters Tournament.
05:23And of course, Rory McIlroy's triumphant moment at the Masters.
05:27We do that now with our guy, Dubbsy.
05:30Dubbs Anderson joining us bright and early on this Monday morning to recap a quite dramatic Sunday
05:37at the Masters and Rory McIlroy donning the green jacket for the first time.
05:41Dubbs, as always, we appreciate the time.
05:44We thank you so much for being here.
05:46Gentlemen, great to see.
05:47And I tell you what, I feel like I've just recovered from what a wonderful,
05:52wacky Sunday afternoon it was at Augusta National.
05:55But I felt like this was the storyline coming into the Masters this year.
05:59You know, it wasn't so much about live the PGA Tour golfers.
06:03We know that Scotty's the number one in the sport right now.
06:06But it was Rory McIlroy in search of something pretty special getting his first green jacket.
06:12And look, he didn't make it easy for himself at times.
06:16But then again, he also showed us that when his game is singing full hum,
06:20there's levels to it.
06:21And he is far better than the next in line.
06:24We've been waiting for Rory McIlroy to get to this spot for the last 10, 15 years.
06:29He's 35 years of age.
06:31He's not young, but he's also not the oldest in the field there.
06:34So I thought it was very fitting.
06:35And in true Rory fashion, he didn't want to run away with this thing.
06:39He wanted to test himself and he needed extra holes to get it done.
06:43So one for the theatrics.
06:45And it just shows us time and time again, the Masters.
06:48It never really starts until we hit that back nine on a Sunday afternoon.
06:54Absolutely so, Dubs, as you see that emotion released by Rory McIlroy in the burden
07:00that had been following him for more than a decade.
07:03And now finally a Masters tournament title to complete the career Grand Slam.
07:09But Dubs, depending on your rooting and betting interest yesterday,
07:12we all went through the ups and the downs, the agony and the joy
07:17all in about a minute, an hour, nine holes,
07:21and then some in the playoff between McIlroy and Justin Rose.
07:25As you were watching the drama unfold on the back nine at a Sunday at the Masters,
07:30Rory with inexplicable shots and then heroic moments.
07:34What were you feeling?
07:35What were you experiencing?
07:36Oh, I felt like I was in the old tumble dry.
07:40And for anyone who may have missed it, you know,
07:42Rory McIlroy had a four shot lead as they started the back nine.
07:46And then suddenly it's bogey, double bogey, par, wrap in another bogey,
07:51and suddenly it's game on.
07:53We saw Justin Rose, who I guess now chalks up a third runner up at the Masters tournament.
07:59He was right there in the conversation.
08:01But for Rory McIlroy, very impressive with this win,
08:04but also a little concerning of the way that Rory really succumbs to that pressure.
08:10And, you know, it's easy for me to sit here and say that, but it is clear as day for,
08:15you know, I guess the golf extremists or maybe just the pundit who dials it in
08:20for one of the four majors at this point of the season.
08:22But Rory McIlroy really struggles to get out of his own way at times.
08:27He makes the easy shots look really difficult.
08:30But then again, as we saw in 15, when he has to, you know,
08:33bend a five iron around the pine straws there, 220 yards and knocks it to 10 feet.
08:38He can make a tough golf course and a tough shot look really comfortable at times.
08:43And for Rory, I think it is, you know, a sign of what we've seen the last five, 10 years.
08:47There was that buildup of scar tissue.
08:49There was so much doubt in the back of his mind,
08:52but ultimately he found a way to get into that playoff and get it done.
08:56But it was so contrasting within the space for 20 minutes.
09:00You know, Rory just needed a par on the 72nd hole to close it out.
09:04He's 110 yards out middle of the fairway.
09:07And he just blocks it to put himself in the bunker.
09:10He then misses a four footer to win the tournament in regulation time.
09:14But then he goes to that playoff hole where I felt like, you know, at that point,
09:17he had to be telling himself that it's house money.
09:20I've already lost the tournament.
09:22I'm playing with a guy that I'm very familiar with in Justin Rose.
09:24And then he dials one into a couple of feet and ultimately sinks that birdie putt there on the,
09:30on the sudden death playoff hole to get his first green jacket.
09:33So I, you know, it was clear with, with Rory, all that emotion coming through after that tournament,
09:39this one means just a little bit more than any other major.
09:42And for a guy who's been trying and trying to get back in the thick of it,
09:46he's had bad beat after tough beat after bad beat to finally figure out a way to get it done.
09:52I felt like this one was the golf gods up top looking down on Roy McIlroy to finally give him that salute
09:59and give him that, you know, that's that exclamation mark that he is one of the best in world golf.
10:05And he will be the greatest that we've seen from Europe to ever get it done once he has said done.
10:11Yeah. The way it ended too, because like more meaningful, let's just say,
10:15because you wake up today as Rory McIlroy, like, oh my God, did I actually win the masters here?
10:18Did I, you know, bogey another hole at this point, but take me behind the ropes here,
10:21Dubsy as a caddy, because we do know it is a partnership here.
10:25What are you telling Rory McIlroy when it's going well? And then when it's not so going well,
10:30just to keep his head in the game, like we got this, is it motivation? Is it renewing a couple
10:35of things that you worked on in the past? What gives you during those rounds?
10:39Yeah. You know, very fascinating the way the mind works. And for Harry Diamond,
10:43who's been a long time caddy there for Roy McIlroy, they've known each other since they've,
10:48they've been young fellas. He said to Rory after, you know, boguing the 72nd hole, he said,
10:54look, if this was a Monday and you said, we're here in a playoff trying to win, you know,
10:58that, that first green jacket, you'd absolutely take it. And for Roy McIlroy, you know, for everything
11:03that he's gone through the last five, 10 years, he still shows up with that optimism. And you could
11:08see it once he got back onto that 18th tee, it was a renewed confidence. He was waiting around for
11:14Justin Rose, but it really looked like he had that ability to show us that short term memory,
11:19just put it in the past and say, look, I've got a chance here to do something really special.
11:23Don't worry about the bogies or the doubles that we just saw play over the last couple of hours. And
11:29that's what he did. And, you know, for these golfers, when they can get in that flow state,
11:33when they could just play what's in front of them for Roy McIlroy, when it's all about golf and not
11:37golf swing, watch out. He is the biggest, the baddest, the best that we have seen since Tiger Woods.
11:44I know Scotty's impressive, but he ain't Roy McIlroy when he is on song, like we saw there in
11:49that playoff hole. He's a special athlete. He's a special golfer. And now the resume matches the
11:55billing as well. So, Dubsy quickly here in the final 30 seconds or so of this segment,
12:00the burden lifted and you could see that weight truly come off Rory McIlroy. Do you think it opens
12:05it up for Rory to not just get back in the majors winner's circle, but stack up a couple in a row?
12:10Absolutely. Watch out. He's got the career slam. Watch out for the calendar slam coming up this
12:16season. Next stop, the PGA Quail Hollow. He's won four times on that golf course. It forces him to
12:22move it both ways. Rory McIlroy playing with house money, renewed confidence. Watch out,
12:28Scotty Scheffler. Here comes Rory, the freight train.
12:31Doug V. Anderson, our guy as always with a great statement on what we saw Sunday at Augusta.
12:37More on the early line next.
