00:00it's taken five years and 3.8 million dollars but Launceston's Road Safety Centre otherwise
00:13known as the bike centre is set to reopen to the public the facility was closed in 2019 due to a
00:19landslide however when crews got in to assess the damage they found the situation worse than
00:24they initially thought prompting the lengthy closure and bigger project so it's had structural
00:28engineers it's had landscape architects it's had our parks team in terms of the equipment and design
00:35it's had a project management team internal to council it's had some surveyors engineers there
00:42have been so many people involved in this obviously Mel the artist as well it's been a really big team
00:47effort and I think it's something that we should be really proud of we listened to the community
00:51through the design process and and they told us that they wanted the bike centre as it was obviously
00:58we've made some pretty big improvements here with additional shade and shelter improved play aspects
01:03but we've really wanted to keep at the heart of the project the same theme so that's the road network
01:08it's about being a space that kids can ride around not only on their bikes but scooters skateboards it's
01:16it's a really great open space we're really proud of the outcome that's come here today to have had not
01:22only the community along on this journey with the council and the investment the financial investment
01:27but also to have the Labor Albanese government coming in on board as well with Senator Helen Polly we're
01:32super proud of how this has come together and we're really pleased to be opening it from 8am that's
01:37when you'll be able to book on Monday the two sessions $35 a session incredibly affordable and
01:42now we really look forward to how this space here continues to generate conversations connections for generations to come
