In a critical legal development, Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, the attorney for Kilmar Abrego Garcia, held a press briefing following the Supreme Court's decision that forces the Trump Administration to "facilitate" Garcia's return to the U.S. after his wrongful deportation. The high-stakes case took another turn as Judge Paula Xinis ordered the Department of Justice to provide daily updates on Garcia’s case, signaling significant legal momentum in favor of his return.

00:00This afternoon we were back in front of Judge Zinnis on remand from the United
00:04States Supreme Court, which last night issued a unanimous 9 to 0 decision
00:10affirming the order of the district judge that they need to facilitate the
00:16return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the United States and give him all of the
00:21due process that he that he should have had before he was illegally deported and
00:27that they need to do that as quickly as possible and that they need to share
00:31with the court information about what they're doing. After the Supreme Court
00:37issued that order the district judge issued a further order clarifying her
00:43ruling and explaining that the government needs to take all steps
00:47reasonable to facilitate the return of Mr. Abrego Garcia to the United States and
00:53that in the meanwhile it needs to provide the court with information
00:58specifically three pieces of information. One, where is Mr. Abrego Garcia right now?
01:04What is his custodial status? Two, what has the government done so far to try to
01:12bring him back? There were several days when the court's order was in effect prior
01:18to the Supreme Court entering a stay and now it's been more than 12 hours since
01:24the Supreme Court lifted the stay. What has the government done during that time to
01:31bring him back? And then three, what is the government planning to do to carry out
01:38the court's order which is again to take all reasonable steps to facilitate the
01:44return of Mr. Abrego Garcia to the United States as quickly as possible. The
01:49government refused to provide any of those pieces of information that the
01:54judge ordered them to provide. Not only the information about what future steps
01:59they're planning to take, they even refused to answer the question about what
02:04they've done so far and they even refused to answer the question about where
02:08Kilmer Abrego Garcia is today. For the second time in this case, they sent a
02:14lawyer into court who had no answers. He explained that his clients, the
02:21government, have chosen not to give him any information, not to give him any
02:24evidence. And the district judge appropriately was not willing to accept their vague and
02:36unsubstantiated assertions that, don't worry judge, we'll take care of this all in
02:40due course. The government attorney did say that they intend to comply with the
02:47order and bring him back. That's the bare minimum. They should have done that
02:51already. They've had plenty of time between the Supreme Court's order early
02:56yesterday evening and now. He should be here in the United States. It's a five hour flight.
02:59Yes.
