00:00Being gyaru means a lot to me because it helped me change my perception of myself from being
00:06very negative. Makeup is everything in gyaru, without the makeup there is no gyaru. I would
00:13never wear anything that could be described as modest. Today I'm being transformed into
00:19an everyday casual aesthetic. No, no, no, no, no. That is horrendous. I'm gonna look like
00:26egg, packaged ham, not even festive ham, just packaged. Tesco value.
00:33Oh wow. My name's Chloe but I go by Coco. I'm 22 and I live in West Yorkshire. Gyaru is a lifestyle
00:42based on fashion and makeup. It's definitely very fun but it's a full-on lifestyle. It's
00:50time consuming, it costs a lot of money but I wouldn't be anything else.
00:55It takes me around two hours to do my hair and makeup every day depending on if I'm doing something
01:00new or not. Makeup is everything in gyaru, without the makeup there is no gyaru. My favourite colours to
01:07wear are neon pink and baby blue. My everyday outfit is normally a mini skirt or hot pant shorts and
01:18something that shows a lot of cleavage. I would never wear anything that could be described as
01:24modest. Funky little hibiscus earrings. Anything that's glittery or hello kitty, I will have it. It's a
01:32little vial of human blood from someone I used to be friends with. She's got mine. I didn't know what to
01:39do with it so I just dumped it in there. People stare at me on the street a lot. I don't mind people
01:47staring or people talking to me because I do get a lot of compliments but the thing that I don't like
01:53is people taking pictures of me because that does happen quite a lot. Today I'm being transformed into
02:01an everyday casual aesthetic. I get to open the packages now and I have a feeling it's going to be
02:06something that I would never ever choose to wear myself. What the heeeel. It's beige. I mean, what is that?
02:20It's peach. Oh no, sorry. It's apricot. Apricot gingham. Beige. I would never wear beige. It's high necked.
02:32No boob. No boob. It's like something from Little House on the Prairie. No. No, no, no, no, no.
02:45That is horrendous. I'm going to look like an egg. An apricot egg. I think I'm going to look like
02:52an item of food. Egg. Packaged ham. Not even festive ham. Just packaged. Tesco value. I can quite honestly
03:01say that I would rather die than go outside in this outfit.
03:08I think Chloe's look is like really artistic and as a makeup artist I can really appreciate
03:13the hard work that goes into creating that kind of look.
03:16Who do you live with? Just my mum. What's her thoughts on everything? Like on the look? Is she
03:29quite open to it? Yeah, she's always encouraged me to be myself. Yeah. She's never been surprised.
03:35My family has always been very accepting of me looking the way that I want to look.
03:40I've always sort of every few months come out with a different style so this is nothing really new to them.
03:50The makeup's going well. The hardest part is definitely the brows because I'm trying to make
03:55them look as realistic as possible because there's no hair. But we're getting there.
04:03Lots of few touches and lips and you're doing.
04:08I think we're done. I feel extremely nervous.
04:12I think we're done. I think we're done.
04:18Oh my god. I've got eyebrows. Oh, the hair. I do look like somebody's mum.
04:24Okay, I hate everything about this dress but from the neck up, not too bad.
04:43The earrings are cute. The makeup's really good.
04:48And we've got eyebrows.
04:49Oh my god. That is the strangest thing ever. I don't recognise myself.
04:58I'd describe Chloe's style as unique. She's had this style for quite a while now.
05:02Probably three, three here.
05:09Oh wow.
05:12Hello. Wow.
05:13Do you like it? You look amazing.
05:17Are you joking? No, I'm not joking.
05:20Your hair's amazing. You're not supposed to say that.
05:22You're supposed to say, oh darling daughter, I love you as you are.
05:26I do love you as you are, but you do look very different, love.
05:32Your hair looks amazing though. I think it's lovely. It's very pretty.
05:36It's a new look, but I don't think it's Chloe. I do like Chloe's uniqueness.
05:47My style is everything to me because gyaru isn't just a fashion, it's a lifestyle.
05:52So everything I do is gyaru.
06:06I do love you because you're a personality to my hair.
06:07Your head is definitely a family with love.
06:09I don't know when I'm just a person.
06:10I don't know what that looks like.
06:11I don't know how they do it.
06:12You're a person.
06:12What's the way to do is give a great look for me.
06:13I don't know what the look of my hair.
06:13I think she's so cute.
06:15I don't know what you are.
06:15I don't know what that looks like.
06:16It's a little bit of a jean.
06:17It's a little bit of a crook for me.
06:17It's a little bit of a crook, but you're a little bit of a crook.
06:19I don't know what this works as a snack.
06:20But only it's a walk.
06:21And I don't know what?
