00:00I just want to be clear that you should not be the intimacy coordinator.
00:04You should definitely hire intimacy coordinators, which we did have.
00:07Thank goodness.
00:08Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:10And today we'll be looking at the most infamous instances of celebrities
00:13who dragged each other to court to settle their disputes.
00:17It's like the look on my face is abject terror.
00:20Like I can see it in my eyes.
00:24Nicholas Cage versus Kathleen Turner.
00:26The 1986 film Peggy Sue Got Married starred Kathleen Turner
00:31as a woman on the brink of divorcing her husband, played by Nicholas Cage.
00:35It's over, Charlie.
00:37I don't want to hurt you.
00:40I want you to be happy.
00:42While the film was a critical and commercial hit,
00:45the working relationship between the two actors was anything but smooth.
00:49In her 2008 memoir, Turner claimed that Cage was difficult to work with,
00:54alleging that he stole a chihuahua during filming
00:57and was arrested twice for drunk driving.
01:00The Oscar winner took offense to Send Yourself Roses,
01:03My Life, Love and Leading Role,
01:05after the romancing The Stone actress claimed he was arrested for drink driving twice
01:09and stole a chihuahua.
01:11Cage denied these accusations and took legal action in London's High Court,
01:16suing Turner and her publishers for defamation, libel and slander.
01:20The court ultimately ruled in his favor, ordering Turner to issue a public apology
01:26and forcing the book's publishers to correct the record in subsequent editions.
01:30As well as a big sorry, Kathleen's publishers have agreed to insert a correction into her books
01:35and along with associated newspapers, they'll all be making a substantial donation to charity.
01:41Radiohead versus Lana Del Rey.
01:43In 2018, Lana Del Rey found herself in a copyright dispute over Get Free,
01:48the closing track from her fifth album, Lust for Life.
01:56Alternative rock band Radiohead apparently claimed that the song closely resembled
02:00their 1992 debut single, Creep.
02:07Del Rey revealed on Twitter that Radiohead's team had taken her to court,
02:11demanding full ownership of the song's publishing rights after rejecting her offer of 40%.
02:17However, the band's label denied both the lawsuit and the claim for 100% ownership.
02:22The situation was particularly ironic,
02:25as Radiohead had faced a lawsuit in the 1990s over similarities between Creep
02:30and the 1972 song, The Air That I Breathe.
02:34Eventually, the dispute was resolved out of court,
02:43although the songwriting credits for Get Free remain unchanged.
02:47Sofia Vergara versus Nick Loeb.
02:49They had agreed at the time of in vitro fertilization
02:52that the embryos would remain as they are.
02:57They could be destroyed in the event that one of them died.
03:00Hollywood actors Sofia Vergara and Nick Loeb began dating in 2010
03:05and got engaged two years later.
03:08In 2013, while trying to have a child through surrogacy,
03:11they underwent in vitro fertilization
03:13and had two embryos frozen in a California clinic.
03:17We actually went through the process of, you know, going through in vitro,
03:21creating life, putting it to a surrogate once.
03:24We then put it into a surrogate again a second time.
03:27After their breakup in 2014, Loeb sought to implant the embryos,
03:31but Vergara objected, citing their previous agreement
03:35that neither could use them without mutual consent.
03:38Loeb sued for custody in California,
03:40but later dropped that case and refiled in a court in Louisiana,
03:44arguing that the embryos had a right to life.
03:47He even named them Emma and Isabella as plaintiffs.
03:51It doesn't matter that two lies have already been created.
03:53I wouldn't just toss them aside no different than a child that had been born.
03:57However, the case was dismissed by the Louisiana court for lack of jurisdiction,
04:02as the embryos were conceived in California.
04:05Blac Chyna versus the Kardashians.
04:07You have serious anger issues.
04:10How am I going to grab your-
04:12Why are you yelling, you psycho?
04:14What's wrong with you?
04:15Because it's aggravating.
04:16Blac Chyna's reality TV career took off in 2016
04:20when she began dating Rob Kardashian.
04:23This led to appearances in Keeping Up With The Kardashians
04:26and her own spinoff, Rob and Chyna.
04:29However, their relationship ended after about a year.
04:32And soon after, Rob and Chyna was canceled,
04:35despite initially being renewed for a second season.
04:38In 2017, Blac Chyna filed a $100 million lawsuit against the Kardashians,
04:44accusing them of sabotaging her career
04:46by falsely portraying her as violent to network executives
04:50and getting her show canceled.
04:52And her legal team has said that the Kardashians lied about that
04:56when they told the E! network that Chyna assaulted Rob
04:58because they were hoping that the network would cancel the show,
05:01which they did.
05:02The case was further complicated by the fact that Rob Kardashian
05:05posted explicit pictures of her after their breakup,
05:09which led to a separate lawsuit.
05:11I was devastated, of course.
05:12I'm like, how could somebody, like, post these pictures of me?
05:17And I'm like, like, wow, okay.
05:21After a two-week trial, however,
05:23the jury ruled in favor of the Kardashians.
05:26David Mueller versus Taylor Swift.
05:28At a 2013 pre-show meet-and-greet in Denver, Colorado,
05:32Taylor Swift met with fans and employees of radio station KYGO-FM.
05:38According to Swift,
05:39while posing for a picture with DJ David Mueller,
05:42he reached under her skirt and groped her.
05:45After she reported the incident,
05:46Mueller was fired from KYGO-FM.
05:49What I'm saying is that I didn't do what they say I did.
05:54I didn't do it.
05:55I never grabbed her.
05:57In 2015, he sued Swift for defamation,
06:00claiming her accusation was false and had ended his career.
06:04Swift countersued for sexual assault and battery,
06:07seeking only $1 in damages to emphasize that her lawsuit was about standing up for victims
06:13rather than financial gain.
06:15But for Swift, it's not about money.
06:17She countersued for just $1.
06:19Anything more the jury awards her, she says, will go to charity.
06:22The week-long trial took place in 2017,
06:25shortly before the Me Too movement gained momentum
06:28and included testimony from Swift herself.
06:31Ultimately, the jury sided with Swift, awarding her the symbolic $1.
06:36Taylor's mom, Andrea, cried as the verdict came down.
06:39Taylor also teared up and she quietly mouthed,
06:41thank you to the jury.
06:43Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan vs. Harvey Weinstein.
06:47Speaking of the Me Too movement,
06:49the bombshell October 2017 article that exposed producer Harvey Weinstein
06:54included allegations from actresses Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan.
06:58But you went up because?
07:01I had a business appointment.
07:04Which is as, that's, you know, his pattern of sexual predation.
07:08That was how he rolled.
07:09Both women claimed Weinstein sexually harassed and assaulted them,
07:13then used his influence to sabotage their careers.
07:17In 2018, Judd filed a lawsuit for defamation and sexual harassment,
07:21alleging that Weinstein had blacklisted her in Hollywood,
07:25ultimately costing her a role in the Lord of the Rings franchise.
07:28The harassment lawsuit was, however, dismissed the following year.
07:32You thought you were going to be used in this franchise.
07:36I was being invited to consider which of the two roles I preferred.
07:41And then all of a sudden, poof.
07:42It was just poof.
07:44McGowan, on the other hand, sued Weinstein, his lawyers,
07:47and a private intelligence firm,
07:50accusing them of running a conspiracy to silence and discredit her.
07:53Oh, you have a meeting or come to a party,
07:56they would show up and that party is just him.
07:58Who got them there?
07:59Who are the assistants?
08:00You're saying there was a machinery.
08:02So I'm saying there's a massive machinery.
08:04This lawsuit was also dismissed after she failed to file the required documents.
08:08Brad Pitt vs. Angelina Jolie.
08:11On a scale of 1 to 10, how happy are you as a couple?
08:13Eight.
08:14Wait.
08:1610 being perfectly happy and 1 being totally miserable?
08:19Or just respond instinctively?
08:21One of Hollywood's most beloved power couples,
08:24things turned sour between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
08:28after Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016.
08:32The two had jointly owned Chateau Miraval,
08:35a winery in France where they got married in 2014.
08:38But after their divorce, Jolie sold her share of the business.
08:42That's why when Angie reportedly sold those shares for about $54 million,
08:46it could be interpreted as a slap in Brad's face.
08:49This led Pitt to sue her for allegedly breaking their agreement
08:53to seek each other's approval before selling.
08:55The lawsuit came amid an already contentious custody battle.
08:59In response, Jolie countersued, accusing Pitt of domestic violence,
09:04including a 2016 plane incident that reportedly led to her decision to file for divorce.
09:09That's when she claimed she was injured, describing one injury as a rug burn type wound on her right
09:15hand. Jolie presented photos as well as journal entries from their children.
09:20In November 2024, a judge denied Jolie's motion to dismiss Pitt's suit,
09:26allowing the case to proceed to trial.
09:28Blake Lively versus Justin Baldoni.
09:30The initial suit filed by Blake Lively was against Baldoni,
09:34Wayfarer Productions, as well as a few other people alleging sexual harassment on the set of
09:40the film. It ends with us.
09:42The case between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni had already been dissected in the
09:47court of public opinion long before a trial date was set.
09:50Lively had filed a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department,
09:54accusing Baldoni, her director and co-star,
09:57of sexually harassing her during production of 2024's It Ends With Us.
10:02Hi. Hi. Hi. Lily. Lily Bloom.
10:06Mm-hmm. Yes. Yes. You guys know each other?
10:09No. A little bit? No. We...
10:11We met a few months ago.
10:12After the New York Times reported that Baldoni had orchestrated a smear campaign against her
10:17in retaliation, he sued the newspaper for $250 million. This prompted Lively to escalate her
10:24complaint to a federal lawsuit, which, in turn, led Baldoni to countersue her and her husband,
10:30Ryan Reynolds, for $400 million. As tensions continue to rise, both parties will have to wait
10:37until March 2026 to face each other in court.
10:40Honestly, the court date, which is in 2026, or has been said, alleged, to be in 2026,
10:45unless they settle earlier. But the court of public opinion is happening every day.
10:50Kesha vs. Dr. Luke. The music world was rocked in 2014 when singer Kesha sued her longtime producer,
10:56Dr. Luke, for sexual assault, battery, and emotional distress. She alleged that he had
11:02drugged and assaulted her early on, and subjected her to years of psychological manipulation.
11:08Yes, she is accusing him of horribly abusive acts, physically, mentally, sexually, verbally,
11:14emotionally, if it's true, it's reprehensible. As part of the lawsuit, she sought to be released
11:19from her contract with his label, Kimo Sabe Records. However, Dr. Luke denied the allegations
11:25and countersued for defamation and breach of agreement, claiming Kesha had fabricated the
11:30accusations to escape her contractual obligations. But Dr. Luke is fighting back. He's filed a countersued
11:37calling it all extortion, and says Kesha's claims are outrageous and untrue.
11:42The case sparked intense debate about the treatment of women in the music industry,
11:46and the power dynamics between producers and young artists. After nearly a decade in the courts,
11:52the two eventually reached a confidential settlement in 2023.
11:56Kesha writing,
11:57Only God Knows What Happened That Night, adding that while she can't recount everything that
12:02happened at the time, she's looking forward to closing the door on this chapter of life
12:06and beginning a new one.

12:23Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard
12:25Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's marriage officially ended in 2017 without much fanfare.
12:31The following year, Heard released an op-ed in which she described herself as a survivor of domestic violence.
12:38It was about me and my life and what I endured once I moved on and got a TRO and moved on with my life.
12:46It was about what happened to me after.
12:48Although she didn't mention Depp by name, he sued her for defamation,
12:52asserting that Heard was actually the violent one in the marriage.
12:55Heard then countersued Depp, setting off one of the most high-profile legal battles in modern history.
13:01And it's not just the fans. This courtroom drama has for millions become daily viewing.
13:09As the trial was live-streamed, it drew large audiences and led to widespread discussions on social media,
13:16with many siding with Depp and viewing Heard as manipulative.
13:20In the end, the jury ruled largely in favor of Depp, awarding him $10 million in compensatory damages,
13:27while Heard received $2 million for part of her counterclaim.
13:31Do you find that Ms. Heard has proven all the elements of defamation?
13:35Answer, no.
13:36Which of these legal battles did you follow in real time?
13:40Let us know in the comments.
13:41Lively says this is tainting the jury pool, so, you know, this is not the end.
13:45We are going to hear so much. It's getting very ugly.
