Paula Rizzo on Hit For Productivity
Transcript
00:00The idea of hit, you know, doing something really intense in short bursts and then giving yourself a break as far as productivity goes is something that has been used forever in so many different industries like a journalist, you know, in an ER, surgeon, surgery, lawyers in, you know, giving, you know, being in front of, you know, in court and giving opening arguments, closing arguments, all those things.
00:29So this is not something that is very new, you know, the idea.
00:35As a journalist for years, you know, I was a journalist for close to 20 years in New York working in television news.
00:40So being able to put a newscast on every single night, you know, getting meeting deadlines, it's quick, fast.
00:48You got to get it done. Right. So it's definitely something that can help to maximize your efficiency and to get you faster results.
00:55And there's a lot of industries that do it anyway. But what if you're in an industry that does not do this?
01:01How can you sort of foster this idea? If you're an entrepreneur or somebody, you know, who who might benefit from this, who's not in an environment where this is embedded into the culture?
01:12There's a couple of ideas that I have on how you can sort of do this.
01:15And one way is to have used the Pomodoro technique, which I use quite a lot.
01:20I talk about in my book, Listful Thinking and Listful Living, and it's short 25 minute spurts of work.
01:27So you set a timer, you pick one task and you work only on that one task for 25 minutes.
01:32If you get distracted, you're to stop the clock and sort of train yourself to work only on that one thing.
01:39It works really well. I've used it for years. Sometimes 25 minutes can feel like a long time.
01:45So I encourage people to use 10 minutes or 15 minutes until they can get up to 20 or 25 minutes.
01:50Some people can do longer. It's all personalized.
01:53So you need to figure out what works best for you as far as productivity goes.
01:56I don't believe that there's a one size fits all solution.
01:59You really have to know yourself best, know your own personal productivity style and really lean into that.
