Matt Maher gives his take on Aston Villa's Champions League defeat to PSG.
Transcript
00:00Good evening from Paris, or should I say good morning, it's 20 past midnight over here.
00:06Villa beaten 3-1 by Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final
00:11on a night when the 27th shot might have been the killer in terms of this tie.
00:16Villa heading into stoppage time, 2-1 down, still very much in the tie,
00:20looked like they were going back to Villa Park, still very much in it.
00:23And then Nuno Mendes scores, one of the last attacks of the game to make it 3-1
00:29and it really does feel now that Villa have got a mountain to climb
00:31and it's going to need something extraordinary next week to overhaul this deficit.
00:37Oonemery disagrees, he's come into his post-match press conference and said
00:41well it's changed nothing, Oonemery basically said he expected to lose either 2-1 or 3-1
00:47and he's confident that Villa can pull it back at home
00:50but they're going to have to produce something really special
00:53against what is an excellent Paris Saint-Germain side.
00:55We knew they were good, obviously saw them beat Liverpool in the previous round
01:00and they were excellent tonight, they dominated the game
01:03yet it was Villa who went in front, Morgan Rodgers scoring on the 35th minute
01:09finishing a fine team move.
01:12That was a rare attack from Villa and just a couple of minutes, well four minutes later
01:17Desiree Due scores a sensational goal for PSG
01:21who then went ahead early in the second half through the Georgian genius
01:26as my colleague Graham Bryce calls him
01:29a name I cannot actually pronounce properly
01:32so let's call him the Georgian genius
01:34trademark Graham Bryce, put Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 up
01:37and you feared then, you feared Villa were going to get overrun
01:40that didn't really happen, they were holding out quite well
01:42which made the goal from Nunez, Nuno Mendes in stoppage time
01:45even more galling
01:48again, you know, a frustrating finish
01:52finish to the game
01:53Villa were going up against it anyway
01:55but now you really do feel that it's going to take something
01:57something truly special next week
01:59to turn this tie around
02:01Thank you
