00:00A new crime map of the UK recorded around 1.8 million reported offences in 2024.
00:06It was found that of those, 136,000 were detected.
00:10It was reported that in seven neighbourhoods across the nation where more than 100 violent offences were committed,
00:18not one suspect was charged, cautioned or dealt with via a local resolution.
00:24These neighbourhoods included York, Sutton and Camden.
00:27It was also recently reported that train stations are becoming hotspots for crime,
00:33as the British Transport Police data showed that around 25 offences were taking place in train stations every day in the UK.
00:42Campaigners have said that this data shows an unacceptable level of violence taking place at train stations.
00:49Sexual attacks, robberies, vandalism and shoplifting were some of the most common crimes reported at train stations.
00:56The Crime and Policing Bill is set to address the highest harm crimes impacting society.
01:03These include things like knife crime, violence against women and girls, cybercrime, child sexual abuse and terrorism.
01:10In regards to the Crime and Policing Bill, which will say police forces adopt new powers in order to tackle neighbourhood crime,
01:17the new laws will be backed up by the recruitment of 13,000 added neighbourhood policing roles with a named officer in every community.
01:27Speaking on the bill, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said,
01:31For too long, communities have had to put up with rising town centre and street crime and persistent antisocial behaviour while neighbourhood police have been cut.
01:41And for years, too little has been done to tackle the most serious violence of all, including knife crime and violence against women and children.
01:49She added that that's why the new Crime and Policing Bill is about taking back the streets and town centres, restoring respect for law and order and giving the police and local communities the support and tools they need to tackle local crime.
02:05Mobile phone theft is another common crime hitting the streets in our region.
02:09The Crime and Policing Bill is hoped to tackle this crime specifically using the newly introduced power of warrantless entry.
02:18Officers will be able to enter premises identified by electronic mapping if stolen items are believed to be there and it's not practicable to obtain a warrant from a court.
