00:00The acquisition of an accountancy firm, a deal for a historic bath manufacturer, and
00:04a new company starting production at the original home of Gregg's, featuring today's business
00:08briefing.
00:09Well, we've got some great deals news this morning, Adam, what's stuck out to you?
00:18That's right, a deal in the accountancy world.
00:20DGH has expanded into the South East and London with the acquisition of McBride's Chartered
00:26Accountants.
00:27McBride's was set up in 1973, and it's a full-service accountancy firm headquartered
00:32in Sidcup.
00:33The firm actually celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023, and it has eight partners and over
00:3950 employees, so definitely a big acquisition for DGH.
00:43Existing McBride's managing partner, Tanya Hamilton, will continue to lead the business
00:48with the partner team.
00:49Now, following a series of 10 acquisitions in three years, DGH, which is backed by Tenzing,
00:56has actually grown into a team of more than 580 people, so a lot of growth for that firm.
01:01Yeah, really good story, really good story there.
01:04Well, continuing with the acquisition news, in the North East, we've got the announcement
01:08that Holiday Latines Group Travel Chapter has acquired a business in the Lake District,
01:12Lakeland Retreats.
01:13It was established in 2018 by Michelle and Adam Wilkin, and it currently has a portfolio
01:18of about 220 properties in Ambleside, Windermere, and Keswick.
01:22Now, following the acquisition, Michelle Wilkin will join Travel Chapter and will continue
01:27to lead the Lakeland Retreats business, while Adam Wilkin will gradually step back over
01:31the next year.
01:32Michelle said she was incredibly proud of what Lakeland Retreats had built and highlighted
01:38its ongoing support for both property owners and guests, while Jane McClure, the Chief
01:42Executive of Travel Chapter, said the business was built on strong values, exceptional service,
01:48and strong local relationships, and was a great addition to the Travel Chapter portfolio.
01:52Now, in common with all of our acquisitions, some great dealmakers worked on this one.
01:58For example, you've got RG Corporate Finance and Ward Hadaway, so great story all around.
02:03Yeah, and we'll continue with the theme of deals with an acquisition for Brand K Group,
02:08a supplier of radiator and bathroom equipment.
02:11Now, they've moved for a manufacturer which actually dates back to 1759.
02:16It's Caron Bathrooms, which is based in Falkirk in Scotland and operates from the historic
02:20Caron Works.
02:21It has been acquired from its long-term shareholders, John Hewitt and David McMurray.
02:26It's a manufacturer of baths and it's home, actually, to the patented Caronite Bath Reinforcement
02:32System, and the business controls every part of its production process.
02:38The deal is Brand K Group's ninth UK acquisition, and it was supported by Dow Scofield Watts.
02:43Yeah, great stuff.
02:45Well, last thing for us today, in the North East, there's news that a bakery chain has
02:48started production at the original home of Gregg's.
02:51So, Pink Lane Bakery has moved into Baker's Yard in Newcastle.
02:55The new site allows it to produce almost 3,000 pies and sausages every week.
02:59The company was founded in 2012 and it has increased staff numbers from six in 2019 to
03:0653 today, so really strong growth there.
03:09The rising sales obviously meant it needed to secure additional manufacturing space,
03:13hence its move.
03:15Now, Addison Group secured the freehold of the Baker's Yard site from Newcastle City
03:20Council and completed a £14 million redevelopment in 2020.
03:24It's gone on to spend almost £100,000 on the new facilities for Pink Lane, and the
03:30wider Baker's Yard development now has about 20 businesses in occupation, so a really great
03:35story for Newcastle.
03:36Yeah, great to hear, and thanks for that, Stephen.
