00:00Assalam-o-Alaikum, I am Mary Amey and today we are going to talk about the new trade war.
00:16President Trump is fulfilling all the promises he made during the elections.
00:21Now we will see what the world will pay for it.
00:24We will talk about this in the first part of the program.
00:26Then we will talk about the budget.
00:28The people's party has come to the fore with the PMLN and is moving towards a trade war policy.
00:39We will talk about this in the second part of the program.
00:41Apart from this, who has come against PICA?
00:45Since the act was made in January, who has been applied for it?
00:49This is a very interesting test case.
00:51We will share it with you in the last part of the program.
00:53Let's start.
00:54President Trump is slowly fulfilling all the promises he made during the election campaign.
01:03And on the basis of the slogans and claims he made, the US voted for him and elected his president.
01:10And now he is making those promises come true.
01:14But his face is getting worse.
01:16President Trump has fulfilled all the promises he made to his trading partners around the world.
01:25And now we see that the economy of the world, the stock exchange, and the trade of all countries are in a mess.
01:34It has affected the whole world like an earthquake.
01:38Something like this is happening.
01:41We have seen that the stock exchange index has fluctuated rapidly in many countries.
01:47Apart from this, the allies of the US will now review their policies on trade tariffs.
01:56But President Trump is still standing by his decision.
02:02In his latest tweet, he said that many people come to the US and invest a lot of money.
02:09And I want to tell everyone that my policies will never change.
02:14This is the time to come to the US and become rich.
02:17In fact, become richer than the rich.
02:20So he has full confidence in his policies right now.
02:25But what is the short-term result of those policies?
02:29We have found out from some American newspapers.
02:32I want to tell you that with this tariff decision, will the US be able to recover its life, trade, and financial sector?
02:42European and US markets are still dropping after Trump's decision.
02:49We are sharing the news of Euronews with you right now.
02:53And we are still dealing with the effects of the European and US markets.
02:59Reuters has made a very interesting piece based on the price of the iPhone.
03:06And how the iPhone will be more than $2,300 based on Trump's decision.
03:13So now the voters are slowly finding out what will be the effect of these tariffs on the lower level.
03:21In addition, American newspapers and the BBC are also claiming that since Covid-19, it has been the worst week for US stocks.
03:35Because China has also imposed tariffs on the US.
03:39The so-called trade war is here.
03:42In addition, if this trade war continues, we have seen that the decision of the global trade war will affect airports, seaports, and customer warehouses.
04:00Then let's see how the supply chain of the world will affect it.
04:06How has this decision affected the tech industry?
04:11Zuckerberg, Bezos, and Musk have all lost billions of dollars.
04:22And individually, some of them have suffered losses of up to 23 billion.
04:30So overall, these are the characteristics of the policies that were announced.
04:36What is this problem? What is this tariff? What difference does it make from the tariff?
04:40We will start our program with all these things today.
04:43But more than 100 countries will be affected by this.
04:45The first news that has come to us, let's see what will be the response of these countries.
04:51The US tariff on Pakistan is 58%.
04:54India has a tariff of 52%.
04:56Bangladesh has a tariff of 74%.
04:58China has a tariff of 67%.
05:00The European Union has a tariff of 39%.
05:02Britain has a tariff of 10%.
05:04And Vietnam has a tariff of 90%.
05:06And the funny thing is that this tariff has been imposed on such islands where there is no population.
05:14There is no population.
05:15Tataka is under the administration of Australia.
05:17Ghairabad, Jazaira, Heard Island, and McDonnell Island have also been tariffed by 10%.
05:22Where the last humanitarian visit was 10 years ago.
05:25The tariff has been imposed by President Trump.
05:27The dates of the tariff are also different.
05:29The minimum tariff, which is 10%, will be implemented on 5th April.
05:32The maximum tariff will be implemented from 9th April.
05:37This was promised by Trump on 23rd January.
05:40He said that he was going to impose tariffs.
05:42But the world was not taking him seriously.
05:44He thought that he would not go further.
05:46But he started acting on all his electoral slogans.
05:50So, America got what they voted for.
05:52And it is also affecting the whole world.
05:54The European Union says that it is ready for a trade war.
05:58In response to Donald Trump's announcement, it plans to target online services.
06:03China says that it will impose a 34% tariff on the United States.
06:08And China responded immediately.
06:11China has blackmailed the United States to impose more tariffs.
06:14It has said that increasing tariffs cannot solve American problems.
06:18Because there is no victory in a trade war.
06:21Japan says that it is a very sad situation.
06:24South Korea says that the global trade war has become a reality.
06:28Australia says that what America has done is not the work of any friend country.
06:32The American people will pay a heavy price.
06:34Pakistan is cautious about this.
06:37For us, the US is a very important strategic partner across the board.
06:42Now, what we have done in the last few days,
06:45the Prime Minister has constituted two committees.
06:48You should never let a good crisis go to waste.
06:53So, we are looking at this both as a challenge and as an opportunity.
06:59We have with us Mr. Kamran Arshad, Chairman of Aptema.
07:02What is this opportunity?
07:04India also sees this as a challenge.
07:07But they also say that this is an opportunity.
07:10More or less, this is the point of view of Pakistan.
07:12Mr. Yusuf Nazar is from Maharashtra.
07:14Thank you very much for joining us, Mr. Yusuf.
07:16Mr. Kamran, let's start with you.
07:18Just a while ago, the news came out that Vietnam has offered to write off its tariffs.
07:24Because more or less, the government talked about the opportunities.
07:27Look at the other countries in the region.
07:29For example, Vietnam has a very high tariff rate.
07:32It is higher than Pakistan.
07:34So, maybe this is an opportunity.
07:36But more or less, in the developments so far,
07:39where do you see the opportunity aspect?
07:44Yes, Assalam-o-Alaikum and thank you for having me on your show.
07:48Look, our total export to the US is 5.12 billion dollars.
07:54That is approximately 5 billion dollars.
07:56And our total import from the US is 2.14 billion dollars.
08:01So, we export 5 billion dollars and import 2 billion dollars.
08:06So, the trade deficit with the US is exactly 2.99 or roughly 3 billion dollars.
08:15Now, we have to understand what we export the most in this 5.12 billion dollars.
08:23So, what do we export the most?
08:25We export the textile product the most.
08:29Its HS code is 50 to 63.
08:32And out of this 5 billion dollars, approximately 3.9 billion dollars,
08:38that is 76.71 percent of the textile product is exported.
08:44Now, what do we import from there?
08:46This is also very interesting.
08:48According to HS code 50 to 63, we import the most textile, i.e. cotton from there.
08:57We have imported cotton worth 817 million dollars.
09:01In total, it is 2.14 billion dollars.
09:03The rest are small things like machinery, transportation, metals, limited and other things.
09:11But most of our import is from American cotton.
09:15And most of our export is from the textile industry.
09:19Now, we can adjust this 2 billion dollar and 3 billion dollar export gap.
09:27How can we do that?
09:28Pakistan imports 55 to 60 million dollars in total.
09:34And exports 30 to 31 billion dollars.
09:38Therefore, it has been established that we import 55 billion dollars into Pakistan.
09:44We have to give only 3 to 4 billion dollars to the U.S. from another country where we are importing.
09:52So, while this is a very big challenge and a crisis has been created,
09:57but as the Minister of Treasury has said that in every crisis, an opportunity is also created.
10:04Therefore, this is a very big God-gifted opportunity for Pakistan.
10:08No doubt, they have imported 26 percent on India and 29 percent on us.
10:13They have imported much more than us in Vietnam and Bangladesh.
10:16But this is a very big opportunity for us that we have to import only 3 billion dollars out of 55 billion dollars to the U.S.
10:25And this 29 percent that has been imported on us can go close to zero.
10:32Mr. Yusuf, you have heard this conversation and you have also heard the perspective.
10:36The first reaction of the Modi government was that this is challenging, but it is an opportunity for us.
10:41Pakistan has also deliberately made two committees and they have more or less the same response
10:46that this is an opportunity.
10:48Mr. Kamran has also unpacked this as an opportunity for us.
10:51How do you see this?
10:53Is the government perceiving this as an opportunity?
11:00I think the biggest thing is that we should understand what this means.
11:05As you said, tariff.
11:07Tariff means that you impose taxes on imports.
11:10This increases inflation in any market.
11:15As far as Pakistan is concerned, our exports to the total economy of Pakistan
11:24are relatively less than India, Vietnam or Cambodia.
11:30Our exports to the national economy are less than 10 percent.
11:35And our exports to the U.S. are less than 1.5 or 20 percent.
11:43In this respect, you can say that the impact will not be so great.
11:49But the bigger question, as you said in your statement, is the economic situation of the world.
11:57I think the biggest threat of this tariff war is that the world could face a huge recession.
12:10We can also call it a stagflation.
12:13This means that the economy will slow down, but inflation will increase.
12:22If this happens, and the demand for our products is low,
12:27our products are mostly commodities.
12:30These are not essential products.
12:32This has a lot to do with demand.
12:34And most of them are textiles.
12:36In textiles, the contribution of value-added products is relatively low.
12:42If this happens, and the demand is affected,
12:46it is not just a matter of the percentage of tariffs.
12:50This is not a simple matter.
12:52I see that the government is paying attention to this.
12:55But India and Vietnam have already offered to the U.S. that they can remove their tariffs.
13:04And if they remove the tariffs, if we also remove them,
13:08will the U.S. respond to this?
13:11I think this is not just an economic question.
13:15This is also a political question.
13:17How do they treat Pakistan?
13:20But Trump uses everything for a deal.
13:26For example, just last week, he said to Argentina that
13:32if they do not end their currency agreement with China,
13:38they will block Argentina's IMF aid.
13:43What I mean to say is that
13:45just saying that we will reduce or increase our tariffs is not a simple matter.
13:53Trump's main focus is to limit or harm China.
14:02That is why China has responded very quickly.
14:07The U.S. imposed a 34% tariff.
14:10China has also imposed a 34% tariff after two days.
14:14This means that this will not end.
14:17And the reaction of the markets is that
14:21perhaps after 2028, we will see the biggest economic recession in the world.
14:30Mr. Kamran, you are talking about a recession.
14:34This is not just a recession.
14:36This is not just a recession.
14:38This is a meltdown like what happened in 2008.
14:41If this happens, there is a lot of danger.
14:45This is an opportunity and a challenge.
14:49I think this is a textbook bali.
14:52But Mr. Yusuf, the world is also settling down.
14:55They should know how far this is.
14:57There may be policies after that.
14:59But Mr. Kamran, the initial policies like India's offer to remove tariffs,
15:04and what Pakistan is thinking in this matter,
15:08how long should the decision be made?
15:11What factors should be considered?
15:13What do you recommend?
15:15Should the government match this offer like Vietnam and India did?
15:19Or should we have a different approach?
15:22The Pakistani Ambassador to Washington has already contacted the U.S. Trade Representative Office
15:30and negotiations and discussions have started there.
15:33As Aptama All Pakistan Textile Mills Association, we are already in touch with the Commerce Ministry.
15:39And tomorrow, we are going to a meeting of the Commerce Ministry.
15:44Our entire delegation is coming from Lahore and Karachi.
15:48I am leading it.
15:50And we can be very proactive in this.
15:54One aspect is that the glass is half empty.
15:59We don't matter so much.
16:00Our size is so limited, export-wise and import-wise,
16:04that we may not matter for the U.S.
16:07But on the other hand, if you see,
16:09the second aspect is that the glass is not half empty, but half full.
16:13So, due to this limited import and export,
16:18compared to other countries,
16:20our stakes are very small in the U.S. market.
16:23So, we can react very quickly.
16:26And perhaps, we can act more than others.
16:28No doubt, Bangladesh and Vietnam have already dispatched their Commerce Ministry teams.
16:36As of right now, they are landing in Washington.
16:39So, from Monday, they can undertake negotiations with various government departments,
16:46especially the U.S. Trade Representative.
16:49But I think the solution for us is very simple.
16:52From a textile perspective, our cotton has always been short for the past 3-4 years.
16:58We are climatically affected.
17:00We have a shortage of water.
17:02So, if we double our American cotton import,
17:07you can imagine that this $3 billion trade deficit
17:10has already caused a $817 million cotton shortage in 2024.
17:16And in 2025, this amount will double
17:19because we have a record shortfall.
17:21Number one.
17:22Number two.
17:23For the past 40 years,
17:25we have given preferential tariff access to Japanese automakers in this country.
17:30You know who they are.
17:33We have not taken a loan from them.
17:35They should not have had this access.
17:38So, we should give the same preferential access to American automakers.
17:43And they should take advantage of this.
17:45You have surplus electricity.
17:47China's electric vehicle company BYD has come to Pakistan.
17:52I think we should give exactly the same offer to Tesla Motors
17:57because Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla, is playing a very important role in the Trump administration.
18:03So, I think if we are proactive
18:06and knock on the right doors in Washington,
18:09and our government takes a proactive approach
18:13with the stakeholders in Pakistan,
18:15who export to the US,
18:19there is a lot at stake for us
18:21because after 9th April,
18:23no shipment from Pakistan to the US will go
18:27until these duties are decided.
18:30Interesting.
18:31If an exporter exports $1 million to the US,
18:35and the import duty was 9.5% to 15% conventionally,
18:40he had to pay 9.5% to 15% on that $1 million.
18:46Now, when 29% tariff will be imposed on it,
18:49it will be almost 40% to 45%.
18:53So, 9th April is the cut-off date.
18:55It will not pay $4 lakh after $1 million.
18:57Yes, it is a cut-off date.
18:59I would like to ask you a closing comment.
19:01Pakistan is very isolated overall.
19:04There was a recession in 2008,
19:06but it was not at the level of the global recession.
19:09Does Pakistan have the levers to retain it?
19:20In my opinion,
19:22we are in a better position to absorb the shock of the global economy
19:30than we were two years ago.
19:32But again, I will come to the political angle.
19:35Trump's strategy is a big political agenda.
19:43So, I would suggest to the government
19:46to do trade negotiations and send a delegation.
19:50In my opinion,
19:51it should be approached at the top level
19:53by the Vice President or the Secretary of State.
19:56The Prime Minister should directly offer
20:00that we are ready to pay the tariff at 0%.
20:04We can also bargain.
20:07The clear thing is that we do not have a bargaining position with America.
20:12So, we will have to see how to approach it politically.
20:18Most of the blame will be on the Trump administration.
20:22It is a matter of understanding.
20:24The decisions are being made by two or three people at the top.
20:28So, we should approach them directly.
20:30And this offer should be made unilaterally
20:33to create some goodwill in the Trump administration.
20:36Thank you very much.
20:37Both guests agree that
20:39diplomacy and diplomacy should be done as soon as possible.
20:42We will take a break.
20:43When we come back,
20:44we will take a look at the politics of the country.
20:46Stay with us.
20:49Welcome back.
20:50In this part of the program,
20:52we would like to take some perspective
20:55on the political developments that took place this week.
20:57The guests with us today are
20:59Mr. Tarqazmi in the studio,
21:00Mr. Muneeb Farooq,
21:01who has come all the way from Lahore with us.
21:02Thank you both for coming.
21:03There are two developments this week.
21:05First, if we see,
21:06if there is a meeting on the occasion of Eid in Tariq-e-Insaaf,
21:09and instead of bringing a policy-level director from the leadership or from Mr. Imran Khan,
21:15if you complain about your local politics in your party,
21:20then this is not a good omen for Tariq-e-Insaaf.
21:23This is what happened.
21:24When we first saw that
21:25Mr. Ali Amin Gandapur went to meet Mr. Imran Khan for 2-3 hours.
21:29And when he came out,
21:31he gave an interview to Mr. Ishaq Bhatti.
21:33And in that interview,
21:34he gave a friendly fire.
21:35He took the name of the entire media
21:39and told someone that he is a Mukhbir,
21:42that he is playing a double game.
21:43He gave a friendly fire.
21:45If we listen to Mr. Ali Amin Gandapur's statement,
21:48let's start the conversation first.
21:50Mr. Suleiman.
21:51Mr. Khan's orders are
21:53that Atif, Shahram and Asad Kaisar should not be given the MP ticket.
21:56They are conspiring.
21:58They have been conspiring in the government before.
22:00Because they are conspiring,
22:01they will harass him later.
22:03So don't leave them in the morning and evening.
22:07Mr. Azam Sawati also gave a similar interview.
22:10He also talked about the local politics.
22:12He also talked about the local politics.
22:14It was the occasion of Eid.
22:15He thought that he would talk about other big issues.
22:17But the whole narrative went very small
22:19when he came out and gave an interview.
22:21After that, obviously,
22:23he had to respond.
22:25And what did Asad Kaisar say?
22:27He said,
22:28we do not want to discuss the issues of the party publicly.
22:32If we get some clarity from Mr. Khan
22:35and do some research,
22:37we will know what the allegations are.
22:40And we will also become clear.
22:42He did not respond much to the media.
22:46But then Mr. Azam Sawati
22:48released another video yesterday.
22:50And he said very important things in it.
22:52In which he said that in 2022,
22:54after the inauguration of the new army chief,
22:56Bani PTI called him.
22:58And told him that they want to talk.
23:01With the establishment of that time.
23:03And they want to keep their contacts out.
23:05Mr. Azam Sawati says that
23:07he contacted some people
23:09with the consultation of Bani PTI.
23:11In which Mr. Arif Alvi was there.
23:14He was a teacher.
23:16He was from the current military establishment.
23:20And then these meetings continued.
23:22It was Mr. Khan's will.
23:24No doors were opened.
23:26Mr. Azam Sawati is claiming this.
23:28He is also saying that
23:29the party itself had sent him
23:31for the inauguration of August 22.
23:33When I went to jail.
23:35He did not tell this clarity.
23:37How did the door open?
23:39Did the party forcefully open it?
23:41There must be some quid pro quo in this.
23:43Anyway, at this time,
23:45Mr. Tehreek-e-Insaaf,
23:47who had to run a movement
23:49after Eid,
23:51he is in a dilemma.
23:53We will talk about this.
23:55Mr. Siyadar, I will ask you
23:57because you have also met Mr. Gandapur.
23:59You have also interviewed him.
24:01Why did he fire again?
24:03He had to run a movement,
24:05make an alliance.
24:07They are showing off to each other.
24:09Look, obviously,
24:11Mr. Gandapur's reaction
24:13was also there.
24:15But the day when Mr. Khan
24:17met Azam Sawati,
24:19at that time,
24:21everyone was looking
24:23at what policy statement
24:25Mr. Siyadar gave.
24:27He was told that he will not
24:29give any media talk.
24:31Mr. Salman Akram Raja was not
24:33allowed to go inside.
24:35Mr. Khan's family was not allowed
24:37to meet.
24:39But Azam Sawati went inside.
24:41He came out and
24:43the issues of his district level
24:45were waiting for the media
24:47from all over the world.
24:49So he came out and
24:51spoke in an extremely
24:53sarcastic manner.
24:55People came out and
24:57said that Mr. Khan was
24:59holding his hand.
25:01So it was an extremely
25:03sarcastic conversation
25:05which was very surprising
25:07for me.
25:09It was being said that
25:11the real purpose of the government
25:13is to destroy
25:15Imran Khan's message.
25:17They did it very well.
25:19If Mr. Salman Akram Raja
25:21is talking about the district
25:23president, he must be
25:25complaining about the
25:27councillors inside.
25:29The point is that Mr. Khan's
25:31supporters are his supporters.
25:33So what can the government
25:35do about it?
25:37Ali Ameen was engaging
25:39at different levels and
25:41Mr. Khan was telling him
25:43different things.
25:45But what is the main issue
25:47that Mr. Khan is meeting
25:49Ali Ameen?
25:51Ali Ameen is not political.
25:53Ali Ameen is political.
25:55He is a very good politician.
25:57You have heard about him.
25:59Non-political statements
26:01are not even against him.
26:03So Mr. Khan is getting
26:05only one type of information.
26:07And the group that is going
26:09inside, I feel that they
26:11don't get to hear such
26:13favourable things.
26:15If they were getting
26:17favourable things,
26:19why would they come out
26:21and say bad things about
26:23a third party?
26:25So I feel that Mr. Ali Ameen
26:27is under pressure.
26:29And since the name of
26:31the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
26:33Assembly has come up,
26:35and the name has been
26:37discussed with Mr. Khan
26:39for the next prime minister,
26:41you can see that
26:43Azam Suwati is also doing
26:45a favourable thing.
26:47But why is PTI behaving
26:49like this?
27:15A lot of people think that
27:17Mr. Imran Khan, or some people
27:19may wish that Mr. Imran Khan
27:21has righted him off.
27:23But the reality is the
27:25opposite. Mr. Imran Khan's
27:27confidence is on Mr. Gandapur.
27:29Small complaints, for example,
27:31why did he sit with someone,
27:33why did he take a picture with
27:35someone, why did he meet
27:37someone with a smile,
27:39why did he hug someone,
27:41these are small things.
27:43Mr. Imran Khan knows this
27:45very clearly that if
27:47someone can prove to be
27:49very instrumental in his
27:51release, or someone who can
27:53have a lot of access,
27:55then it is Mr. Gandapur.
27:57And last time when
27:59Bushra Biri Sahiba was released
28:01on bail, Mr. Gandapur played
28:03a very instrumental role.
28:05But this is also a fact that
28:07to put Mr. Gandapur's complaints,
28:09to pull his leg, to make a
28:11mountain out of a molehill,
28:13a lot of people came to
28:15Mr. Imran Khan. Whenever
28:17they came one way or the other,
28:19or sent their messages,
28:21they would reach Mr. Imran Khan.
28:23That so much corruption has happened,
28:25he has done this, his brother
28:27has done this, or they would
28:29make a long story. But as a
28:31matter of fact, it was not
28:33such a big deal for Mr. Imran
28:35Khan to remove Mr. Gandapur
28:37from office. That is why it
28:39was not a big deal for
28:41Mr. Imran Khan to remove
28:43Mr. Gandapur from office.
28:45That is why it was not a
28:47big deal for Mr. Gandapur
28:49to remove Mr. Gandapur
28:51from office.
28:53That is why it was not
28:55a big deal for Mr. Gandapur
28:57to remove Mr. Gandapur
28:59from office.
29:01That is why it was not
29:03a big deal for Mr. Gandapur
29:05to remove Mr. Gandapur
29:07from office.

41:17So, when Mr. Rahman comes, he does a Jalsa and leaves, when Bilawal comes, he does a Jalsa and leaves.
41:20Tariq-e-Insaaf says, we will bring the movement, but the movement never comes.
41:24See, what is the challenge for the government?
41:26This is a popular government, they have a lot of votes.
41:29So, I don't think they have an issue with this.
41:32If there was a problem like that, if they had to prepare more for the next election, then it would have been an issue for them.
41:37Otherwise, they have to run the system now, and they are running it in a great way.
41:41And the people who have been elected will run it.
41:43Sir, please unpack the political scenario for the next 1-2 months for me.
41:48Will this engagement continue with the support of Mr. Gandapur?
41:55Will we see any impact of this in the near future?
41:59Or will we see the status as it is for 2-3 months?
42:03See, there are no safe predictions on this.
42:09It is a fluid situation.
42:10But as far as Mr. Imran Khan is concerned, I don't see any mood that he will allow any major development.
42:15Mr. Gandapur's efforts will continue in their place.
42:18People will continue to try to bring Mr. Gandapur down.
42:22But Mr. Gandapur is loyal to Mr. Imran Khan.
42:26And a lot of people say that they bring Imran Khan's case everywhere and fight.
42:31But now it depends on whether the people in front of whom this case is fought are interested in moving forward.
42:38Whether some time comes from outside or someone else comes.
42:41So is there any factor that creates a difference?
42:45It is not until today.
42:47At least today when we are talking.
42:49If there is a very big development in the next 2 months, then what can we say about it?
42:54But the things that are visible in front of us for the last 2-3 years, they remain unchanged.
42:59Hence, Mr. Imran Khan's release has been more than a year and a half.
43:03There is only one reason for this.
43:04The people who actually matter, they have not changed their position.
43:08And at this time, the justice movement that we are seeing in KP.
43:13Will this case be more expedited?
43:15Are you also looking for a way against Mr. Gandapur?
43:18Can it be on the cards?
43:20Look, this will be tried.
43:22It is obvious.
43:24And this attempt will only be made if Mr. Imran Khan's nod comes.
43:28Nothing can be done without him.
43:31But if Mr. Imran Khan gets this impression or feels that Mr. Gandapur does not bid for him, but for someone else.
43:38And he is looking at the matters of both parties.
43:42Then maybe he will do this or think about it.
43:44But for now, Mr. Imran Khan has complete confidence in Mr. Gandapur.
43:49But again I will say, at what time his political move will succeed.
43:53And he will succeed in outclassing Mr. Gandapur politically.
43:57Nothing can be said about this.
43:59Thank you very much.
44:00Mr. Kazmi was present.
44:01Mr. Muneeb Farooq was present.
44:02When we come back, the PICA Act.
44:04From its establishment, that is, it was passed in January.
44:07Which is a new act.
44:08And from that to date, how is this law being applied?
44:12We will take a thorough look at this.
44:14We will talk about the break.
44:19Welcome back.
44:20On January 23, 2025, the PICA Act is approved by the National Assembly.
44:24And then on January 29, the President of Pakistan signs it.
44:28And then it becomes a bill.
44:30It becomes a formal law.
44:32The claim was made to stop disinformation and misinformation.
44:36And in addition to this, this law has been brought to close the way for fake news.
44:43So let's take a quick glance at all those cases.
44:46Which have been booked or established under the new PICA Act since January.
44:53And let's see how much disinformation, misinformation and how much political purpose is being used.
44:58First of all, let me tell you.
45:00On February 11, the PICA Act was passed in Mardan.
45:03The government of justice is also not behind anyone.
45:06They are also present.
45:07After blackmailing the press club officials, this case was filed against the citizen.
45:12And he said that this person was using indecent language against him on social media.
45:18I am not going into the details of this.
45:19I am just pointing out a trend that these cases are being filed against whom and on what topics.
45:26After this, on February 24, in Lahore, a deepfake picture of the Prime Minister of Punjab, Mariam Nawaz Sahiba is shared.
45:33And after that, abuses are also given to the police.
45:37So immediately before the PICA Act, these cases are filed against them.
45:43There is a lot of excitement.
45:44It should be.
45:45But there is also a special kind of specific political angling in these cases.
45:50On March 3, there is a very interesting case.
45:52Someone criticized the scholars for not announcing the moon of Ramadan in Bannu.
45:57So in Bannu, a case was filed against those people who criticized under the PICA law.
46:03That is, it is open for all.
46:07If there is any grievance and he is powerful or he has a strong connection at that time, then he can file a PICA.
46:15In this case, only one criticism was made that you did not announce or whatever differences were on the moon, then the PICA has been filed.
46:23This is a very worrying trend.
46:25Apart from this, this is very interesting.
46:27A video of the traffic police is shared.
46:29So it is time for social media.
46:30People make a video of any nonsense that is happening and then put it on social media.
46:35A lot of times, when such cases were heard, then a notice was also taken on it and then whatever was wrong in it was also solved.
46:44But this time, the one who made the video has put a PICA act on it.
46:48Why this video has been made and shared.
46:51So now if you are making a video in a public place, then also a PICA act can be put on you.
46:56This has been done to you.
46:58The traffic police have done it in Pindi.
47:00On March 26, Sahafi Waheed Murad.
47:03This is a very high-profile case.
47:05A case was filed on him under the PICA act.
47:07He came out in a few days.
47:09He was afraid that he might not celebrate Eid far from his loved ones in jail.
47:13But anyway, he was successful in celebrating Eid with his family.
47:17On March 30, a false news was filed against a police officer in Khairpur under the PICA act.
47:22So if you say that in Sindh too, a lot of cases are being registered under the PICA act, then it will not be wrong.
47:31In Noshera area, a false news was filed against a citizen.
47:36Then on April 4, a case was filed against a police officer in Tohina against Sadr Zardari.
47:43And he has been arrested under the PICA act.
47:47When the program is over, don't forget to give your feedback.
47:50Take care.
47:51Goodbye.
