In a fiery press conference, Senate Democrats launched a scathing attack on Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs and the Republican-backed budget plan, calling it a "pincer of pain" that’s squeezing American families from both sides. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, along with Senators Ron Wyden and Catherine Cortez Masto, warned of rising inflation, market instability, and massive hits to critical services like healthcare, food assistance, and housing.

00:25Instead of fixing inflation, which he promised to do,
00:29Donald Trump unleashed a wave of tariffs that will make inflation much, much worse.
00:35It is estimated the average American family will pay $5,000 more a year
00:41because of these tariffs.
00:44It is believed that these tariffs will hurt our economy
00:48and families from one end of America to the other.
00:51Here's what the nonpartisan chairman of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, just said.
00:56It will increase inflation and slow growth.
01:00So, I am introducing an amendment to the Senate budget resolution
01:06with Senator Klobuchar and many other Dems
01:09that says that the amendment will create, will make sure
01:15that any tariff put in place after January 20th, 25th
01:21will be rescinded if they have increased the costs of groceries, medicines,
01:26or other secondary goods.
01:28We leave in place the tariffs only on China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.
01:34So, we have here a pincer of pain.
01:36On the one hand, Trump and the Republicans are taking away vital services
01:42in health care, and in housing, and in food, and in so many other things Americans need.
01:47And then at the same time, with the other side of the pincer,
01:50they're squeezing them by creating higher prices.
01:55It's a bloodbath in the markets again today.
02:00And what you have all over the country now is Americans wincing
02:06as they look at their retirement accounts.
02:09And people are petrified.
02:11We're getting the calls about their jobs, their own personal finances.
02:16So, they're hurting, but the billionaires, on the other hand,
02:21have got an ace in the hole.
02:24And that's their friends in the United States Senate, the Republicans.
02:29So, while the economy is burning, thanks to Donald Trump's reckless tariffs,
02:33the bill the Republicans are scrambling to pass is essentially a bailout
02:38for them and big corporations.
02:41But everybody knows Las Vegas.
02:43Don't you know that's the main revenue generator for our state, tourism and travel?
02:47Tourism and travel.
02:49Do you know what happens when you impose high tariffs, reciprocal tariffs,
02:53on some of our allies like Canada?
02:56That means we're not seeing people traveling, international traveling,
02:59coming to Las Vegas and to this country.
03:02Do you know the United States benefits $12 billion from international travelers?
03:09Over $20 billion annually in 2024.
03:13That's not happening now.
03:14I can tell you, in my state, as I talk to folks in my hotels and casinos
03:20and I talk to individuals who are focused on travel and tourism,
03:24we are not seeing that.
03:25We are seeing a downturn in the types of travel coming to Las Vegas.
