At a Senate Democratic press briefing on Friday, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) spoke about tariffs and the Republican budget resolution.

00:00So here's where things are right now.
00:05It's a bloodbath in the markets again today.
00:10And what you have all over the country
00:12now is Americans wincing as they look at their retirement
00:18accounts.
00:19And people are petrified of getting
00:21the calls about their jobs, their own personal finances.
00:26So they're hurting, but the billionaires
00:29on the other hand have got an ace in the hole.
00:34And that's their friends in the United States Senate,
00:37the Republicans.
00:39So while the economy is burning, thanks to Donald Trump's
00:41reckless tariffs, the bill the Republicans
00:44are scrambling to pass is essentially a bailout for them
00:49and big corporations.
00:51And he is taking the United States back
00:54to economic policy that predates the nightfall.
01:00He's driving up prices across the board.
01:03He did such an incompetent job.
01:06As you heard, I'm talking about penguins.
01:09I guess, as a ranking Democrat on the Finance Committee,
01:11I've got to be ready to maybe protect koala bears.
01:14Who knows what's next?
01:16Donald J. Hoover says he's not going to back down.
01:22And that is bad news for everybody.
01:25He's counting on a steady paycheck to get by.
01:28But the well-connected billionaires
01:30who helped Donald Trump get back in power
01:32are safe in the knowledge that Senate Republicans
01:36have got their backs.
01:38The reality is, unless you're way up
01:41at the upper end of the income scale,
01:43any benefit you get from this Republican tax bill
01:46is going to get blown out of the water
01:48as the Trump tariffs continue to hike inflation.
01:51Trump, meanwhile, is completely out of touch.
01:55And as you have heard, they don't even really care
01:59about the harm they're causing.
02:02Donald Trump said so himself.
02:04He talked about auto manufacturing and said,
02:07quote, I couldn't care less if they raise taxes.
02:11But what's even more striking is yesterday
02:14after the market crash, Donald Trump
02:16was asked about his tariffs.
02:17And he said, I think it's going very well.
02:23You walk into a coffee shop in my home state
02:27and you said something like that,
02:29that response you would be getting from people
02:33would be devastating, starting with the fact
02:35that they would call him a hypocrite
02:38because he said he was going to be concerned
02:39about the cost of living.
02:41And he's working on practically everything else.
02:43Senator Klobuchar.
