Synopsis :
Aux Etats-Unis, pour les amateurs d'oiseaux, "la grande année" est une compétition bien précise : il s'agit d'observer le plus grand nombre possible de spécimens sur le territoire américain tout au long de l'année. Pour des raisons différentes, trois hommes poursuivent ce titre : Kenny Bostick, qui en a observé 732 au précédent concours, Stu Preissler, proche de la retraite, et Brad Harris. Mais rien n'est simple pour les trois hommes : la femme de Kenny ne parvient pas à avoir d'enfant, la société de Stu lui cause des soucis et Brad, à 36 ans, n'arrive toujours pas à trouver d'emploi. Pour eux, "la grande année" est un véritable havre de paix et de liberté....
