04 April- National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin

00:00Hello. Happy Friday. Many of us will continue to see sunny skies, but for some, there is
00:06a bit more cloud around, particularly across parts of Wales and southwest England. We had
00:10some overnight rain, some welcome rain for the gardens. That is all shimmying away and
00:15bringing cloudier skies across parts of Northern Ireland during this afternoon. We might just
00:19see a little bit of showery rain here at times as well. A bit more cloud too over other parts
00:24of England and Wales to begin with, but again, that's tending to melt away. And for many
00:27places it's a dry and a bright day and probably the warmest day of the week, the warmest day
00:32of the year so far as well across parts of the south. It is, however, starting to turn
00:37a little cooler with this breeze coming down from the north-east, a fresher feel over the
00:41Northern Isles, north-east of mainland Scotland and some low cloud at times just drifting
00:46onto the coasts here. So quite a temperature contrast really between the far north-east,
00:52Shetland for example, staying in single digits and parts of the coast here across the North
00:58Sea coast barely getting out of double digits. Whereas in the south, as I said, warmest day
01:01of the year so far, 21, maybe 22, perhaps even 23 in one or two places. Now, temperatures
01:07will fall away through the evening and overnight. The clouds should continue to drift away from
01:12Northern Ireland, but we'll see more clouds spilling in from the North Sea. So turning
01:16quite murky across eastern most counties of England and eastern Scotland. A hint of blue
01:20on the chart there. Yes, rural parts, sheltered glens of Scotland are likely to see a touch
01:26of frost. Elsewhere, with clear skies, we will also see those temperatures dipping well
01:31down into single figures, but enough of a breeze across the south to stop the temperatures
01:36dipping too far here. A few up early tomorrow though, a dull start for much of the Midlands
01:41and eastern England, a good part of eastern Scotland. This mist and low cloud will take
01:45a few hours to clear away, but it should be disappearing certainly by mid to late morning
01:50in many areas. Always the threat with the breeze coming in from the sea that some of
01:54these coasts across the far north-east of England, eastern Scotland, may stay a little
01:58drab and murky. But for many, it's going to be a sunny Saturday. There will be this breeze
02:04that will be quite noticeable and it will be bringing a cooler day as well. Temperatures
02:09not as high on Saturday, still well above average across the south, getting up to 18-19,
02:14perhaps even squeaking up to 20 across the southwest. But generally, it is cooler Saturday
02:19compared to today, quite a bit cooler across some eastern areas. This is the temperature
02:24difference Saturday compared to Friday. You can see it will be quite a bit cooler across
02:30parts of the east Midlands, east Anglia and the south-east of England. So I think you'll
02:33notice that chill, particularly with the breeze and especially on some of these North Sea
02:36coasts where temperatures will stay in single figures all day, particularly if it stays
02:40misty. That mist and low cloud comes back inland as we go through Saturday night and
02:46into Sunday. Again, hints of blue. Rural spots dipping down close to freezing and that
02:52will be a feature of the weather in the coming nights into next week as well. So gardeners
02:56take note of that. High pressure continues to dominate our weather but a subtle shift
03:00as it starts to drift a little further south through Saturday night and into Sunday. The
03:05winds will just angle around a little bit more, which means the cloud will be in a slightly
03:09different place on Sunday morning compared to Saturday morning. Again, it's these eastern
03:13coasts of Scotland most likely to see it. But even here, it may well tend to melt away
03:18more readily on Sunday. And again, for most places on Sunday, it's another sparkling day.
03:23Blue sky, plenty of sunshine. Still a bit of a breeze across the south, although perhaps
03:26not quite as strong. But equally, temperatures will be down a degree or so. So having got
03:32up to the 20s today, by Sunday we're looking at mid-teens at best. And again, feeling cooler
03:38on some of these North Sea coasts where the breeze will continue to nag. The sunny skies
03:43there will continue for many of us well into next week. If you want to know more about
