03:05On the 1st of April we made an appeal to the Moree community in relation to an aggravated home invasion that happened here on the
03:1214th of February as a result of that public appeal and the information we received from that there was two arrests made
03:18There was an arrest made this morning of a 17 year old here in Moree
03:23So he was charged with an aggravated home invasion a take-and-drive
03:27Conveyance for an offence that happened on the 14th day of February here at our premises at Amaru Drive
03:33There's also an 18 year old female that was charged at Waiyong
03:37She was charged in relation to the same incident that occurred at Moree on the 14th of February
03:43She was charged with an aggravated break-in and a take-and-drive
03:47Conveyance and she was also charged with recruit child to engage in criminal activity
03:52Yeah, well under Operation Soteria and the team that came in it involves police from a whole range of
03:59Agencies, so we're the New England Police District here. We had Western Operations here
04:04We had the Youth Command here, Traffic and Highway
04:07Patrol, Police Transport Command, so I've got a whole range of police that come in
04:12So we had police who were assisting in the search warrant and then on the other hand
04:16We had a Youth Command who were reaching out to those youth and their families
04:21And if they need any assistance, they provide that ongoing assistance to them
04:25Yeah, well Soteria is just out there basically just to reduce crime, be there for the community, be there for the victims and just to
04:32Show the community we're here in numbers to assist you
04:35We want to help reduce crime, but we also want to help the youth of today
04:38Do you know what it's been really positive all around?
04:40We've been walking the streets, we've been going into businesses, speaking to small business owners and speaking to them
04:45They're just really positive of our presence because everyone that we speak to they're really proud of their own community
04:52So to come in and just assist them with that, it makes a big deal to us
05:01Look they all run exactly the same type of way
05:04We all run really good programs with the PCYC where we engage the youth
05:07We're trying to keep them off the street and get them into our programs
05:10We find that we build up a really good rapport with the kids
05:13And we notice a decline in their activities
05:17Late at night. Some kids won't engage with us
05:19And then you have other kids that will. Prime example today, went up to a house
05:23I've never met a young person before, introduced myself, told him about the programs that we've got here at the PCYC and just invited him to come on down
05:30This afternoon we're having a barbecue, we're playing sports and he's shown up. So that's a very positive start
05:37It's not a quick fix, but it's about building that rapport again with the young people, getting them in the front door
05:43And then they'll start to communicate with us, they start to see our programs and what we're doing
05:47And engage with us instead of criminal activities
