00:00Live Well with Cancer is excited to announce its highly anticipated fundraising fashion
00:06show set to take place on the 21st of June at the Village Hotel in Silverlink. This special
00:12event will celebrate the strength and resilience of individuals impacted by cancer as they
00:17take to the catwalk. I spoke with founder Maureen Elliott to find out more.
00:22Yes, I'm a cancer nurse specialist. I've been a cancer nurse specialist for 30 years and
00:27I've done various different roles in that time. So I've been a chemotherapy nurse, specialist
00:32nurse, worked in management as deputy matron. But the best role I ever had was as a Macmillan
00:38one-to-one complex case manager. And that was originally funded by Macmillan on soft
00:44monies with the expectation that the hospitals would take over that role. And unfortunately
00:49that never happened. So it was seven years on various charities supporting that role.
00:54And we were all redeployed into different roles at that time. And I just felt compelled
00:59to stop my own charity. At the time I had two close members of family who were also
01:05going through cancer and I knew that their needs weren't being met. So yeah, the closure
01:10of that, I just thought I have to do something about it. Yeah, well, we're really excited
01:14about it. It's on the 21st of June. It's a sustainable fashion show and we were really
01:20keen to do that. We've already sold out. So we had 170 tickets and they sold out in
01:25the first week. We've got 20 models and all of the models, men and women, have all had
01:31or have cancer. So it's going to be a really, really special night for them. I think it's
01:36going to, we're going to make a fuss of them. They're going to get their makeup done. They're
01:40going to wear beautiful clothes and they can suspend reality because some of them have
01:44had a really, really tough few years. I had the fantastic opportunity to meet some of
01:49the amazing models taking part in the show. Well, you can tell we're all nervous. I think
01:56it'll be good fun though. It's a really nice thing to do to raise awareness. And I think
02:01people need to know more because cancer is more prevalent now and more people are getting
02:07it, but it's also more curable. So with places like Love Well We Cancer, it's really important
02:13for people not to be afraid to come because it's not just the person as well who's got
02:17the cancer. Everyone in your family and your friends, they're all living with cancer.
02:23So on the night as well, we're actually partnering with Nicola Jane and they supply underwear
02:30and swimwear. They're a fantastic organisation for women who've had breast cancer. So they,
02:36for post-surgery, post-mastectomy. And we've actually got four incredibly brave models
02:41who are going to wear the swimwear on the evening.
02:44Yeah, so I've also been talked into modelling swimwear. So Nicola Jane, which is definitely
02:50pushing me outside of my comfort zone. But, you know, life's for living and...
02:55It's for a good cause.
02:56It is for a good cause. So it's important to get involved.
