00:00The Department of Social Welfare and Development, or DSWD, has refuted allegations claiming that government assistance such as the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, or 4Ps, and other initiatives is being funneled to politicians instead of reaching the intended beneficiaries.

00:21The Department of Social Welfare and Development, or DSWD, has denied the allegations that the aid provided by the agency to the public such as 4Ps and other programs has been diverted to politicians.

00:39This was asserted by the DSWD spokesperson in an exclusive interview with PTV News.

00:47The assistance that we provide to our beneficiaries is for the eligible beneficiaries.

00:58It is not given to anyone other than our beneficiaries.

01:06According to the IBUN Foundation, the assistance provided by the agency allegedly ends up with politicians instead of reaching to the proper beneficiaries.

01:16This, the foundation claims, this is one of the reasons why hunger levels remain high in the country.

01:23The DSWD explained that although the names of the beneficiaries come from the local government units or LGUs, they still go through a verification process.

01:35DSWD social workers are responsible for identifying whether an individual qualifies for government assistance.

01:44Our identified beneficiaries also go through an assessment or verification by our social workers.

01:54We check if the documents they submit are complete.

02:03We interview and assess our social workers.

02:07Furthermore, Dumlao stated that there is a designated office, the grievance redress mechanism to promptly address complaints or concerns regarding the aid programs and services implemented by the agency.

02:21Several beneficiaries of 4Ps program have already been found in violation according to the DSWD.

02:29We already have beneficiaries who have left the program.

02:35We have done a validation on the complaints submitted to us that they should not be included in the program.

02:47In Davao region, a baranga official has been charged as confirmed by the agency.

02:53If you remember, the pregnant woman in Davao region last year filed a complaint through social media that the amount of assistance she received was reduced.

03:10If we go back to that issue, DSWD even initiated the filing of appropriate charges against the barangay official that the assistance received by our beneficiaries was reduced.

03:31Dumlao also emphasized that the agency does not disregard the comments or recommendations of various groups in the country such as the Ibon Foundation.

03:41The DSWD is studying this to improve and make the implementation of government aid programs more effective.
