Employees across the massive U.S. Health and Human Services Department received notices Tuesday that their jobs were being eliminated, part of a sweeping overhaul designed to vastly shrink the agencies responsible for protecting and promoting Americans’ health.

00:00I think the layoffs are completely nonsensical and have shown no particular thought, no particular
00:08intelligence and certainly no sign of efficiency.
00:11There was no input from the leaders of the institution as to how they could at least
00:18intelligently try to reduce in force, and it was done by people who absolutely don't
00:23know what they're doing.
00:26I got a letter that I was fired for performance on February 15th, which is a Saturday night.
00:31My performance was outstanding.
00:32I was a 4.66 out of 5, and I think that we've established that those terminations were illegal.
00:40I was actually talking to my supervisor earlier today, and we both kind of said it at the
00:44same time.
00:45We have a bit of survivor's remorse, or, you know, if that's how you want to say.
00:52And so, you know, there is a little bit of guilt and stuff weighing over us.
00:55I mean, obviously, I'm extremely grateful and thankful that I still have a job, but
01:00the fact that we're losing so many amazing colleagues, friends, co-workers is truly just
01:05gut-wrenching.
