With helpline calls rising, Strut Safe has highlighted concerns over street safety. We ask locals if they feel safe walking alone at night, what changes they’d like to see, and whether they trust the police or other services to protect them.

00:00Well, my area, no, because I've seen people with knives before in my area, so it's not
00:06really a safe place, not one bit. But you don't feel safe because I have a lot of alleyways.
00:13It's nerve-wracking walking up and down them. You don't know what you're going to come into

00:18I think being a female, running at night, I don't like it at all. I think the one thing
00:22is light. It needs to be more bright at night. That's all. And more presence.
00:29I think it's lighting quite a lot of the time. Walking back from campus, sometimes when it's
00:33quite dark, it doesn't feel that safe. It's better now it's getting light at night, but
00:39yeah.
00:43I don't really walk out at night. If I did, I think possibly I would want to see more police.
00:52But then that's down to finance, funding, money, and the only people who can provide
00:57that are the government.
