Cebu medical school  inaugurates state-of-the-art medical simulation center  Medical students frpm Cebu Normal University-Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center College of Medicine (CNU-VSMMC) can practice on patients who blink, breathe, and even have a heartbeat although they are not alive. These advanced, life-like mannequins are part of the region’s first state-of-the-art medical simulation center, inaugurated on April 2, 2025. The facility is designed to bridge the gap between theory and hands-on practice, allowing students to experience real-life medical scenarios in a safe, controlled environment. Leading the inauguration were Sen. Pia Cayetano, former senator Vicente Sotto III, Cebu Provincial Board Member Stanley Caminero, and CNU-VSMMC College of Medicine officials. Among the facility’s features is a labor and delivery simulation room, where mannequins simulate childbirth, giving students the opportunity to manage different birthing situations with a 'responsive patient.' 00:00the inauguration of the Medical Simulation Center of Cebu Normal University,

00:06Visente Salto Memorial Medical Center College of Medicine.

00:10This state-of-the-art facility is the first of its kind in Central Visayas,

00:15dedicated to advancing medical education through simulation-based learning.

00:20It stands as a testament to our unwavering commitment to equipping future physicians

00:26with the essential knowledge, clinical skills, and confidence

00:29to provide quality healthcare for our Cebuanos.

00:33We are privileged to be joined today by these distinguished individuals

00:38who have been instrumental in making this mission a reality.

00:42My job in this process was, at that time, I was Vice Chair of the Committee on Finance,

00:48and so it was my job to finance the needs of the Department of Health

00:53and all related health units, and education.

00:58So because of those two areas of interest, my passion is health and education,

01:03I merged those two to come up with this kind of system,

01:09this kind of product that we have here.

01:11So the goal really is to have more doctors, and the goal is to have great medical schools.

01:19So one of the ways that we are teaching our med students is through the simulation labs,

01:26which I would ask the experts to take over because I'm not a doctor, I'm not an expert,

01:30and they are specially trained in using the sim lab.

01:35So basically, if you look closely and can you zoom in,

01:38these are not humans, these are high-fidelity simulators.

01:44Okay, high-fidelity simulators.

01:47Parang tao, pero hindi sila tao.

01:49She is called Lucina.

01:51Tinapangalanan niya yan, diba?

01:53So ito si Lucina, manganganak na siya.

01:55So take over na yung mga doktor to explain kung ano ba ito ay.

02:00...hirapang tanggalin si baby, or nag-de-bleed out na si mother.

02:05I don't have two rules.

02:12Let us zoom na, manganak na siya. So may baby na.

02:25Yes. Ito naman po si Luna, infant simulator na.

02:29Yan, si Luna, ha?

02:30Yes.

02:33So meron po kasi tayo yung newborn care, no?

02:36Pati pala yung leeg nyo.

02:38Yes.

02:40Tsaka nagbabago din po yung mata.

02:42Pero sa totoo lang, kabigat siya sa bagong newborn.

02:44Nagbabago yung mata.

02:46So kasi kasama yung sinigingan ng mga doktor.

02:49Yes po.

02:50Mali po, naririnig talaga dito yung heart sounds ng baby.

02:54And then nachicheck nila if yung paghinga niya is okay.

02:59And then if the baby is normal or abnormal, anong pwede nilang gawin.

03:03Pwede din po silang mag-intubate if ever the baby needs to be intubated

03:08kasi hirap siyang huminga.

03:09So marami pong pwede nilang gawin with Luna.

03:12Parang mag-intubation.

03:13Yes. Meron din.

03:14And if I may just say, again, hindi ako doktor, no? I'm a lawyer.

03:18Pero diba yung intubation, it's a difficult process, right?

03:21So technically nga, parang matutupin isa, you will have to learn on a human being.

03:26But now, they can learn.
