00:00It's been very, very active at the airport here in Charleville this morning with helicopters
00:06getting up and going.
00:07You heard about that swift water rescue that was going to have to happen.
00:11We were here when the crews took the boats on the helos and got out of here to go and
00:16effect that rescue.
00:18Now I'm keeping a close eye, of course, on the situation, on the flooding and the weather
00:22situation.
00:23We've had those big falls through Queensland, even here just north of Charleville we've
00:27seen 100 millimetres, and that is all going to make its way downstream.
00:30In fact, a road has been closed to the east of this town, although that's not expected
00:35to stay closed for very long, but it will still have an effect on getting supplies here
00:40and then from here out further beyond.
00:43Actually, I spoke with the CEO of the local Shire Council of the Merway Shire earlier
00:49this morning.
00:50Now, Bruce was saying that this place has really gotten away with it, with this one.
00:56It could have been a very different story, but that's allowing them to now focus their
01:01efforts on that recovery and assistance effort.
01:05Here's what he had to say earlier.
01:07Certainly the stoic nature of the Thargominda people, and we know that they're tough people
01:12and they want to protect their town and they want to get back into their town and get operations
01:15quick as they can.
01:16So that's very early because, as you say, it's early in the day, but our situation here
01:24is that if, because we're high and dry, if the system had been 100 miles north, we would
01:29have been in a different situation.
01:30Nate, there's even been some rescues this morning.
01:33Yeah, so that helicopter we saw just come back was the one that was going out to effect
01:39that rescue.
01:40I'm yet to hear any updates.
01:42I'm about to get over there and talk to the emergency services workers to find out what
01:45happened as that helicopter arrived at that vehicle about 5km west of Tambo.
01:51I understand that man trapped on the roof of his car this morning.
01:54That was a bit of a surprise and they had to really scramble this morning at the airport
01:58to get out there.
01:59Now, for the rest of the day, things are going to slow down a little bit, but still maintain
02:03a pretty rapid pace because it's all about getting this fodder, you can see behind me,
02:08out into the communities.
02:09Thargominda, a major focus.
02:11There's another big stockpile, a couple actually, one at Cunnamulla Airport and one on a property
02:17just to the north of Cunnamulla.
02:19The local aircraft that are situated here are all coordinating, essentially, a detailed
02:24web of trying to get all of that hay from those stockpiles out to where it's needed,
02:30communities like Yulo and Thargominda, of course, a major concern.
02:33The last updates we have from Thargominda is that the water is continuing to rise there.
02:38I understand there is, as it stands at least in the very early part of the day that we're
02:42still in, one person that wants evacuation from Thargominda, but that situation could
02:47very much change through the day today.
02:49So these crews are going from hay to supplies to evacuations to rescues.
02:55You can imagine it's quite a lot of action on the ground here.
02:58Helicopters just keep popping up and returning and getting up and going again.
03:03So yeah, plenty going on.
03:04I'll try and get an update on that rescue situation though as soon as I can.
03:07I'll bring you more next hour.
