00:00In celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Puppet Passion,
00:03it will once again return to the place where it all began,
00:08the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
00:10Here, we will see again the new generation of batikans and the puppeteers of Mulat Theater,
00:16who will continue their efforts every day.
00:19And to share the story, we will now have the Artistic Director of the Teatrong Mulat of the Philippines,
00:26or Mulat Theater, Amihan Bonifacio Romoleta.
00:30Romolete.
00:31Romolete.
00:32Good morning and welcome to Horizon China in the Philippines.
00:34Good morning.
00:36Good morning.
00:37Alright, as the Artistic Director of Mulat Theater,
00:40how do you feel about the return of the Puppet Passion to the CCP?
00:45Of course, we are excited because it has been 40 years since the Puppet Passion.
00:49Here in the CCP, the Puppet Passion was first held in 1985 until 1991.
00:56Then, year after year, we moved the venues,
00:59from the church, from the plaza,
01:01until the Mulat Theater had a home in Teacher's Village.
01:05So, this is like a tradition.
01:07We broadcast it year after year, every Palm Sunday.
01:13Okay, so mostly the viewers are young people, right?
01:16Yes, young people.
01:17Of course, there are also young people with hearts.
01:20Yes, we are also with them.
01:22Alright, in the return of the Puppet Passion to the Cultural Center of the Philippines,
01:27what are the changes that the viewers will see?
01:31Maybe, we will return to the scene of the Last Supper.
01:35So, here, the Apostles are complete,
01:38along with Jesus,
01:40and there are also elements, visual elements that are added.
01:44So, even though we do it year after year,
01:47we add different elements
01:50so that the viewers of last year can see something new.
01:56So, there are also viewers who watch the show every year.
01:59So, this is a bit different because the Puppets Passion is held.
02:04Yes.
02:05But, Ma'am, how does it help when you use puppets
02:10to express the deep message of the Lenten season?
02:15For the kids, when they watch puppets,
02:19it's magical because they see a toy moving in front of them.
02:26And it's different compared to adults or older people.
02:32Because when they're older, it's a bit threatening sometimes
02:35because they're physically tall.
02:38When they see the puppets, it's like they're just playing,
02:41so their hearts are closer to the puppets.
02:44That's why we can see that it's also an effective way,
02:47and of course, it's a different approach,
02:49that you can see one thing coming to life.
02:53How did you prepare for this 40th anniversary
02:57when you return to the Cultural Center?
02:59Of course, the preparation of the puppeteers is important.
03:03But because most of the puppeteers have been part of the Puppet Passion
03:08for several years,
03:10so the rehearsals are just a refresher.
03:13Of course, that's the first thing, the performance itself.
03:16And of course, the preparation of the audience.
03:19Because it's open to the public, so the ticket is free.
03:23It's free.
03:24So, it's free admission.
03:25So, we opened a registration link
03:27for those who are interested in watching.
03:30Because if you're the puppeteer,
03:33you're also the one narrating the story, right?
03:36So, tell me, how did you prepare for this?
03:39How do you do it?
03:41Do you also have rehearsals?
03:43There are also rehearsals.
03:45The dialogue is recorded
03:47because there are a lot of characters involved.
03:50It's not like other shows
03:52where you're the one speaking and moving the puppet.
03:56But because we want the puppeteers to concentrate on the movement,
04:00so that they can move properly,
04:02it's recorded.
04:03So, we have rehearsals at least two months before.
04:06Every weekend, not every day,
04:08every weekend, because some are working.
04:10So, we rehearse.
04:11Of course, there's a warm-up.
04:13You have to be physically prepared
04:15because there are puppets that are heavy.
04:17Because they're made of wood.
04:19The head, the hands, some have feet.
04:22So, all of that is made of wood.
04:24So, it's recorded.
04:25Can I have a sample?
04:26Yes, you can.
04:27Can I have a sample?
04:28Yes, you can.
04:29I think there's music.
04:30So, you can move it.
04:31So, I can listen to it.
04:32Okay.
04:33For my fellow women who want to watch this puppet show.
04:54I will finish it.
04:57I will finish it.
05:08That's amazing.
05:09The movement is amazing.
05:11The movement is emotional.
05:13It's in line with the lyrics of the song.
05:16Yes.
05:17Well, please do invite all our viewers to watch this puppet show.
05:22Okay.
05:23So, have a good day, everyone.
05:25We invite you to watch the 40th anniversary of Puppet Passion on April 6.
05:32This Sunday, 2.30 p.m. and 6 p.m.
05:35at the Ignacio Jimenez Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex.
05:40Well, thank you very much, Ms. Amihan Bonifacio Ramoletes,
05:44for your time and sharing important details about Puppet Passion 2025.
05:49And congratulations.
05:51Thank you very much.
05:52Happy 40th anniversary.
