00:00Hiya, my name is Lucy Rees.
00:10I'm currently coaching the East Swansea Eagles under-14s and Morriston Seniors.
00:24Coaching started about seven years ago. My son was playing tag rugby and myself
00:29and my husband started coaching him from there. A few years later he got into Swansea
00:34School of Boys Under-11s and we were asked to take on a coaching role there as well.
00:40I had a little go when I was 20 for two years. I played hockey first of all and then started
00:45back when I was 33 so I'm a bit of a late starter.
00:48So Lucy's had a massive impact in the Morriston area so far. So I've been in post four years
00:53this year and she started as soon as I started basically. So we started East Swansea Eagles
00:59Hub around three, three-and-a-half years ago. She was getting involved, coaching straight
01:03away, already had a team from the start. So from her being a teacher in virtual comp
01:10as well, she's been able to get girls across from the local comprehensive school. So she's
01:15had a massive impact on the school as well and just being that sort of female role model
01:20within a school and rugby community environment has had a massive impact on the girls as well.
01:25And finally her contribution to Morriston Ladies is second to none. She's supported
01:30the girls and it's nice to have a female coach in a ladies team as well because she can kind
01:36of have that experience while she's coaching and kind of be in the same wavelength as the
01:42ladies. So again, she's just a massive impact to not only the girls in East Swansea Eagles
01:47but also Morriston Ladies as well.
01:49When I first did my Level 1, I think I was the only woman on the coach there. So I think
01:54it was in the early days when the women's game was starting to rise. Back to my Level
01:592, there was four women coaches there. So with the game coming on so well in women,
02:04it's been a lot easier for people to understand. But I think being a teacher and kind of linking
02:09that with coaching as well, I think we do have to approach things a little bit differently,
02:13maybe explain things more, break them down a little bit further. I think it's just raising
02:18awareness that the women are just as good. We can coach just as good as men and I think
02:22that's now becoming the norm and more in the game as well.
