A shocking case of apparent family violence. Three children are in hospital recovering from stab wounds. Their mother is accused of attacking them in Sydney’s north-west. The children are aged between 10 and 16.

00:00A quiet suburban home roused by tragedy.
00:07Emergency services were called to the Borkham Hills address at 5 o'clock this morning after
00:11a father awoke to the screams of his children.
00:15Police will allege they were stabbed in their beds by their mother while sleeping.
00:19Upon waking up to what I would believe to be a number of screams or yells, he's then
00:25gone to approach the situation and from what I am told has secured the weapon and he's
00:31contacted police.
00:33Authorities say a 10-year-old boy had been stabbed twice and his 13-year-old sister was
00:38stabbed three times.
00:40Their 16-year-old sister, who's believed to be paraplegic, was stabbed once and received
00:44a number of lacerations.
00:46Police say the 47-year-old mother was also found with stab wounds.
00:51We believe the father and the children were all in their rooms and potentially all of
00:54them asleep when the mother has carried out this act.
00:59The family had no previous dealings with police.
01:02The three children all attend local schools, a relatively normal family and if I can say
01:07to you this is probably completely unexpected.
01:10Like I said, been here over three years, no conflicts, no nothing, no dramas surprisingly
01:16because I heard nothing.
01:19Authorities believe the mother had been behaving unusually in recent days.
01:23I think it's fair to say that the female's behaviour was a little bit erratic in the
01:27lead up to this incident.
01:29Police are waiting for the mother to recover before they question her.
01:33All three of the children remain at Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.
01:37The only thing I can be grateful for is that those children, you know, they should make
01:41a full physical recovery.
01:43In terms of a psychological recovery, I guess time will tell what that means for them.
