The prime minister has hosted a roundtable with the creators of TV series Adolescence, to discuss how to stop young people from being influenced by toxic content online. Sitting next to Jack Thorne, one of its writers, Sir Keir Starmer said the show is "a torch that shines intensely brightly on a combination of issues that many people don't know how to respond to", but admits that, as a dad, he did not find it "not easy viewing". 00:00It holds you there for four frankly at times harrowing episodes and I have to be honest
00:08as a dad I have not found it easy viewing we've been watching it with our children
00:13my girl is 14 my boy is 16 and it's been really hard to watch and I was talking to a friend about
00:22it the weekend who's also got a boy and he actually said that he couldn't see it through
00:28because it just got to him too much thinking about his own boy what might have happened what
00:32could have happened and actually he stopped watching it and I think that tells you how
00:38compelling it is because it instantly contacts with the fears and worries not just of young
00:46people because I was really struck by how riveted our children were to it but also
00:53frankly the fears and worries of parents and adults across the country and partly I think
01:02it's because it shines a light it shows a problem in our society sort of torch if you like this
01:10shines intensely brightly on a combination of issues that many people don't know how to respond to
01:23thank you
01:53you
