00:21their activities.
00:23U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to bomb Iran and impose secondary tariffs as
00:29if the Persian nation does not reach an agreement with the White House on its nuclear program.
00:36And the Palestinian Red Crescent Society announced the recovery of 14 bodies of health workers.
00:47Hello welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Dersu Studios in Caracas,
00:52Venezuela.
00:53We'll begin with the news, stay with us.
01:09Venezuela affirmed that the international hydrocarbon companies do not require licenses
01:13from third governments to operate in the country, this in view of the U.S. intention to sanction
01:17their activities.
01:18Through a statement, Venezuelan Vice President Delta Rodriguez informed that she maintains
01:22fluid communication with oil and gas companies affected by the sanctions, affirming that
01:27the Bolivarian Republic is prepared to comply with the contracts with these companies, respecting
01:32the constitution and national laws.
01:34Furthermore, the text reaffirmed that international companies do not need authorization from foreign
01:38governments since Venezuela does not recognize extraterritorial jurisdiction.
01:48Also in Venezuela, a group of repatriated migrants arrived at the Simón Bolívar International
01:52Airport in Maquetilla, in the state of La Guaira, as part of the Return to the Homeland
01:56Plan.
01:57Time they arrived in a U.S. aircraft as there were slight changes in logistics and procedures
02:03originating in the western country.
02:05The plane with the repatriated migrants landed on Venezuelan soil, complying with all the
02:08international protocols.
02:10Venezuelan Minister of Interior Relations, Justice Ampicios Alcabello, affirmed the plane
02:14was carrying 175 repatriated migrants after having been subjected to mistreatment and
02:20being accused of belonging to the extinct Trindaragua gang.
02:29And this Sunday, the American Civil Liberties Union released the Alien Enemy Law Validation
02:34Guide, which confirms that Venezuelan migrants are detained for having tattoos and wearing
02:39clothes not for belonging to gangs or committing crimes.
02:42On the same day, a journalistic investigation revealed that the pact between Washington
02:46and San Salvador, promoted by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, had its origin in the surrender
02:51of a Salvadoran gang member nicknamed El Greñas, whose name is Cesar Humberto López
02:56Larios.
02:57This member of the Mada Salvatrucha MS-13 gang was under federal authority and accused
03:01of narco-terrorism.
03:02Rubio arranged his exchange because he apparently has information about the Bukele government's
03:07negotiations with gang members.
03:09Meanwhile, evidence of illegal deportations that amount to human rights violations continues
03:14to emerge.
03:19And on Sunday, hundreds of people marched in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, to demand
03:24stricter measures against Haitian migrants.
03:26Demonstration was organized by the ultra-nationalist group Antigua Orden Dominicana, whose members
03:32participate in paramilitary uniforms.
03:34The group's president, President Ángelo Vázquez, called for a national strike to
03:39pressure the government into imposing sanctions on Haitian migrants and to implement harsher
03:47deportation policies.
03:49Punta Cana, a popular tourist destination, is home to a significant Haitian population,
03:57many of whom work in tourism and construction sectors.
04:00Despite the tense atmosphere, there were no reports of confrontations between demonstrators
04:04and Haitian workers.
04:11On Sunday, hundreds of Chileans took to the streets of Santiago and other cities demanding
04:15the abolition of private pension fund management companies.
04:18The protests, organized by movements like NoMoreAFP, criticized recent pension reform
04:23signed into law by President Gabriel Boric, arguing it fails to dismantle the AFP system
04:29and prioritizes corporate interests over workers' needs.
04:33Demonstrators highlighted the ongoing pension crisis, which has left many retirees without
04:36payouts below the poverty line, and called for a complete overhaul of the system.
04:41The pension reform approved in Congress in January and signed into law last week, introduces
04:46a mixed system with contributions from workers 10%, employers 8.5% and a state-backed social
04:52security component.
04:54Here are the people connected to the world of education, the residents, the health workers,
05:02and of course the people fighting for pensions, which are the four most important demands
05:06raised in the October 2019 uprising.
05:09After five years, we have to lament that they are worse than they were five years ago.
05:13That's why the fight for these demands remains fully alive, and we are here for it.
05:19In Ecuador, a historic agreement was signed on Sunday between the Citizens' Revolution
05:27movement of Luisa González, who is contesting the presidency of the country, and the Pachacutic
05:33indigenous movement, considered the third political force in the country.
05:36Details with our colleague Elena Rodriguez.
05:42Manuel Quesalima left his farm in Colta.
05:46For today, he is not wielding his hoe, but a flag.
05:49He arrived at the central square of Tixin, in Alausi, in the middle of the Andes mountain
05:54range.
05:55He says that he came to fight for a fair Ecuador.
06:00We have never had help from the government.
06:02That's why we want President Luisa González to help, to facilitate life to the poor people,
06:10the farmers, the people who work.
06:17Hundreds of farmers and workers came to this square to witness the signing of the agreement
06:23between the Citizens' Revolution and the Pachacutic movement, the third political force in the
06:28country.
06:31We as national political leaders, we are obliged to give our political criteria and our ideological
06:37position.
06:38We maintain our historical project of 1994, which manifests our anti-capitalist, anti-neoliberal
06:44position.
06:45Therefore, we will never go with the right wing, not a single vote to the right.
06:54This position was evident in this square adorned in multiple colors.
06:58Banners of around 75 left-wing parties and movements filled the space that served as
07:03the stage for the signing of this unprecedented political agreement.
07:08Since Lenin Moreno's government, Lasso's government, and now Novoa's government neoliberal
07:14policies have been applied, in the face of that, we cannot turn our backs on this country.
07:22That is why we have decided to generate a process of unity of the left.
07:30Unity and programmatic agreement was defined in aspects such as the fight against insecurity,
07:35the elimination of large-scale mining, the reduction of the value-added tax from 15%
07:40to 12%, not allowing the privatization of strategic sectors, among others.
07:50Today, we say to the whole country, fighting for Ecuador is an act of love for the homeland,
07:56for 18 million Ecuadorians, and to love Ecuador is to take care of our peoples.
08:05Y amar Ecuador es cuidar de nuestros pueblos.
08:09To take care of our people, to respect our cultures, and also to heal our wounds.
08:16Sanar nuestras heridas, queridos hermanos.
08:24In addition, they rejected the development of a constituent assembly, as proposed by
08:29the presidential candidate Daniel Novoa.
08:31They maintain that the rights achieved in the current Ecuadorian political charter cannot
08:36be rolled back.
08:41We now have our first break coming up.
08:43Remember, you can join us on TikTok at Telestro English, where you'll find news in different

08:49We're going to be right back.
08:50Stay with us.
09:02Welcome back.
09:14U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday threatened to bomb Iran and impose secondary tariffs
09:19if the Persian nation does not reach an agreement with the White House on its nuclear program.
09:24In declarations to U.S. media, Trump said that if they do not reach an agreement, there
09:28will be bombings as never seen before.
09:30In this sense, the president also added the possibility of imposing secondary tariffs,
09:34as he did four years ago.
09:36Washington accuses Iran of enriching uranium to develop weapons, although Iran has stressed
09:40that its nuclear program is peaceful, unlike the Israeli one.
09:43On the other hand, Iranian President Massoud Pashinyan stated that Iran rejects direct
09:47talks with the United States on the issue, pointing out that Iran keeps the door open
09:51to negotiations with the U.S. through mediators.
09:55The response by the Supreme Leader to Donald Trump's letter was delivered to the U.S.
10:02contact in Oman by our brother, Dr. Abbas Araci.
10:14In that response, direct negotiations have been rejected.
10:19But regarding indirect talks, Iran has always been involved in such talks.
10:24And the Supreme Leader has emphasized that indirect talks can still continue.
10:28We don't avoid talks.
10:30It's the breach of promises that has caused issues for us so far.
10:34They must prove that they can build trust.
10:49And Donald Trump has once again floated the idea of a third presidential term despite
10:53the constitutional prohibition under the 22nd Amendment.
10:57In a recent NBC interview, Trump suggested there are methods to do it, and speculated
11:02about Vice President J.D. Banz continuing his agenda if he cannot.
11:06Trump's remarks reflect his position on the issue.
11:09In a recent NBC interview, Trump suggested there are methods to do it, and speculated
11:13about Vice President J.D. Banz continuing his agenda if he cannot.
11:17Trump's remarks reflect his ongoing disregard for democratic norms and his willingness to
11:21entertain authoritarian ideas, building on his history of undermining institutions to
11:26consolidate power.
11:28Trump's musings on a third term come, and broader fears, of his authoritarian ambitions,
11:33which critics argue could further erode democratic structures in the U.S.
11:37His presidency has already been marked by efforts to centralize power, attacks on marginalized
11:41communities, and policies that prioritize corporate interests over public welfare.
12:08And in the U.S., auto stocks took a critical hit following President Donald Trump's announcement
12:14of permanent tariffs.
12:16Europe and Asia are the continents most affected by the significant market decline.
12:20Investors reacted quickly to the news, fearing that these tariffs could severely impact the
12:25profitability of automotive companies and lead to higher prices for consumers.
12:29Analysts also warned that these measures could further destabilize the automotive industry
12:34as many companies rely on global supply chains and imports of parts and complete vehicles.
12:44Meanwhile, the Japanese stock indexes fell sharply on Monday morning as automakers faced
12:49mounting pressure following U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement of 25% tariffs
12:53on auto imports.
12:55Honda Motors dropped 2.6% and Toyota Motors sank 2.8% in Tokyo trading, reflecting concerns
13:01of the potential impact of the tariffs on Japan's car industry, which accounts for a
13:05significant portion of its exports to the U.S.
13:08South Korea's Hyundai Motor also fell 2.6% in Seoul amid broader market jitters ahead
13:14of Trump's April 2nd liberation day, when tailored tariffs on various trading partners
13:19are set to be unveiled.

13:37Final break and we'll be right back.
14:00Welcome back.
14:16On Sunday, the Palestine Red Crescent Society announced the recovery of 14 bodies of health
14:21workers.
14:22Eight of them were members of the organization Fight for Rescuers and one was a U.N. worker,
14:27all missing since last Sunday following an Israeli offensive on the southern Gaza.
14:32They were found in the area of Tell al-Sultan, one of the neighborhoods most affected by
14:37the conflict in the city of Rafah, on the border with Egypt.
14:40The organization said the bodies were difficult to recover because they were buried in sand
14:44and some had begun to decompose.
14:46In a press conference held on Sunday morning before the news broke, the Society's president,
14:52held the Israeli authorities responsible for the safety and lives of the medics.
14:56And the genocide against the Palestinians continues to provoke protests around the world.
15:07Some countries are repressing them, calling into question their own democratic culture.
15:11From Germany, our special envoy, Juno Zuner, with the details.
15:15The Neukölln district in Berlin is home to 160,000 people, a quarter of the Muslims from
15:23Turkey and Arab countries, including Palestine.
15:26These days, their children face a challenging story in their schools.
15:31Although it has no legal authority, the district parliament decided that a very controversial
15:38brochure would be sent to the schools in Neukölln.
15:41Particularly harsh is that this brochure, which deals with the Israeli state system,
15:45relativizes the expulsion of Palestinians, the Nakba, at least in part, very strongly
15:49as a voluntary resettlement.
15:57The district is a center of protests against the genocide.
16:00Many demonstrations in the city, home to 250,000 Muslims, start here.
16:06The state reacts.
16:10There is a criminalization of the protests, of the logos, of the slogans, of the symbols
16:15of these protests, and in a truly massive one-sidedness directed against the pro-Palestinian forces.
16:26The expert says that the use of slogans in Arabic, Hebrew or even Irish is forbidden,
16:32under suspicion of being anti-Semitic.
16:35Immigrants are required to confirm their affirmation of Israel at naturalization.
16:40Another place of repression, universities.
16:45We have a lot of police on campus, and yes, always when there is a student protest somewhere.
16:50The university unfortunately calls the police very quickly.
16:55The professor tells how a conference with Francesca Albanese, unspecial rapporteur
17:01for the occupied Palestinian territories, could not be held at his university
17:05because of a ban by the authorities.
17:07When the event was moved to a private venue, police in uniform
17:11and in civilian clothes were present.
17:15For many years, there has been a working group of the various German security agencies
17:20and secret services to monitor the boycott-divestment-sanctions movement.
17:23In all of these, it can be seen that the Palestinians and their supporters
17:27are seen as a threat to the moral order of the Federal Republic of Germany.
17:35Repression does not stop with the Palestinians, experts stress.
17:41We wrote an open letter against repression in respect of pro-Palestinian demonstrations
17:47and also in defense of the fundamental rights at stake.
17:51It could not be published in German newspapers.
17:59We have a great fear that this is the beginning, so to speak.
18:02Not the beginning, but one of the beginnings of an authoritarian restructuring in Germany
18:06because it cuts across almost all political parties and currents.
18:10Despite all the repression, hundreds of people celebrated Al-Quds Day in Berlin
18:15as Netanyahu's genocidal policies affect political systems in the West.
18:40Venezuela prepares to celebrate the International Progressive Theatre Festival 2025.
18:49The International Progressive Theatre Festival reaches its fourth edition this year
18:53with a great program for all the lovers of this art in the country.
18:57Under the slogan, Let Humanity Be Human, the event will be held from April 10th to 20th
19:02with the participation of 26 international groups
19:05and almost 200 artists on stage from 22 countries from all continents,
19:09among them Argentina, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Cuba, Spain, Iran, Italy, among others.
19:24In addition, in this edition Russia will be the honored nation,
19:28having the opportunity to count with the participation of the Moscow Art Theatre.
19:35If this were a festival aligned with the capitalist cultural industry,
19:38it would have joined what some cultural scenes in the world have unfortunately done,
19:45which is to cancel Russia's contribution to universal culture.
19:48Unfortunately, in the so-called developed world there are many places where Russian music has been banned,
19:53Russian theatre has been banned,
19:57the historical contribution of Russian artists in all areas has been erased
20:01as a consequence of a political conflict.
20:06It is an honor to have this invitation from the Ministry of People's Power for Culture
20:11and the National Theatre Company of Venezuela
20:14to be present in one of the largest festivals in Latin America
20:17dedicated to theatre and theatrical art.
20:26This next event to be held in Venezuela will include activities not only in cultural,
20:31This next event to be held in Venezuela will include activities not only in Caracas,
20:36but there will also be shows in 30 other theatres in 15 states of the country,
20:40and there will also be street theatres, circuses and meeting points.
20:47I believe that the festival establishes a new theatrical geopolitics
20:51that allows the country to understand and create bonds of communication and solidarity
20:56between people so different but affectionate in human relations and theatricality.
21:05We put ourselves at the disposal and service of all these international artists
21:08so that they can know the reality of Venezuela,
21:10which is not the reality that the media tells,
21:12as we are very distant from the truth about Venezuela,
21:15and we always put ourselves and make a platform
21:17so that these artists can perform and continue speaking well about Venezuela outside our borders.
21:27The Progressive International Theatre Festival 2025 will feature more than 30 special,
21:32training events with the participation of international guests.
21:36Bolivia will also be celebrated on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of its independence.
21:42Like this, we have come to the end of this news briefing.
