Cloud across Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England slowly breaking up but with the odd spot of rain possible, especially in the Highlands and over Northern Ireland where the cloud is thicker. Elsewhere it should be a largely clear day with sunny spells through the afternoon. Temperatures above average for this time of the year, but feeling chillier along coasts, particularly in the southwest. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the afternoon of 31/03/2025. 00:00Thanks for joining me for your afternoon weather update. If you're watching on
00:03YouTube don't forget to hit subscribe. The last day of March continues as most
00:08of March has done with a lot of dry weather and for many of us quite a bit
00:11of sunshine. Here's the view from space. This is a large area of high pressure.
00:16The air is sinking through high pressure so we're not seeing too much cloud
00:20certainly for England and Wales under the middle of the high. Further north
00:23there is a weather front and we are seeing some cloud drifting in from the
00:27Atlantic so not particularly sunny for Northern Ireland and Scotland and of
00:31course parts of Scotland particularly over the Highlands that cloud thick
00:34enough for a few showers during the afternoon. But elsewhere it is dry as I
00:37said quite a bit of cloud for Northern Ireland but even that should break up a
00:40little bit. A cloud breaking up to reveal some sunshine over southern Scotland as
00:45well. For most of England and Wales sunny spells through this afternoon
00:48lifting the temperatures up above average for the end of March 16, 17
00:54maybe even 18 in one or two places. It is as is often the case at this time of
00:58year cooler around the coast. The sea is pretty chilly in particular we've got a
01:02breeze blowing which is again quite noticeable across Somerset, Devon and
01:06Cornwall. As we go through the night that breeze is likely to strengthen further
01:10and pick up right along the south coast. We'll see the breeze picking up too
01:14across Northern Ireland and Scotland but that will help to blow the cloud away
01:18here so we'll see more sunshine tomorrow. Some low cloud is likely to form making
01:24things a bit murky. First thing some fog patches possible over these Midlands up
01:28towards Lincolnshire and well we've got the clearest skies and the lightest
01:32winds those temperatures dropping down to just three or four degrees. That's in
01:36Townsend City's rural spots a little lower than that so we will be a chilly
01:39start to Tuesday but many of us will have plenty of sunshine. The mist and fog
01:44may take an hour or two to clear over say parts of the Midlands up towards
01:49northeast England but it should disappear. It's a much sunnier day for
01:52Scotland and Northern Ireland tomorrow. Even the cloud over the Northern Isles
01:56should melt away. In fact for most places come the afternoon look at that sunny
02:00skies pretty much all the way. The feel of the day there will be dictated by the
02:05winds and where they're coming from. A brisk and fresh breeze along the south
02:10coast of England. A bit of a breeze blowing across the west coast of
02:13Scotland and with this breeze trying to come in from the North Sea that'll peg
02:17the temperatures back a little bit along some of those North Sea coasts. But
02:20certainly inland temperatures again getting into the mid or high tees and
02:24the Highlands of Scotland like to be quite a bit warmer than today. 17, 18
02:28perhaps even 19 Celsius is possible here and it could get warmer still as we go
02:33through Tuesday night and into Wednesday. The clear skies there will allow it to
02:37a little chilly overnight. Still a bit of a breeze blowing across the south
02:41will keep those clear skies. High pressure continues to dominate really
02:45through this week. This one actually kind of drifts away and then another one
02:49builds and joins in the fun up from the north. That will twist the wind direction
02:54again allowing a bit more of an easterly to be blowing by the end of the week and
02:59again that'll be crucial for the feel of the day. But with high pressure in charge
03:02expect quite a bit of fine weather through this week. For your full
03:06day-to-day breakdown of the weather for the week ahead that'll be available on
03:11YouTube with Aidan on Monday afternoon.
