00:00Let's update on some Filipinos who are still looking after the Magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Myanmar.
00:06Let's talk to Charjay de Affairs, Angelito Naya of the Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar.
00:11Thank you for your time here in Balitang Hali.
00:17Good afternoon, Mr. Chancellor and viewers of Balitang Hali.
00:21From Yangon, Myanmar, this is Mingel Abar. Good morning.
00:26This is the fourth day of the search for the missing Filipinos.
00:30What other angles are you looking at for the missing Filipinos?
00:35Are they really just there?
00:38First, our hearts go to the families of the affected victims and the communities.
00:43First of all, there are 300 Filipinos marked safe in Myanmar, including Yangon and Mandalay.
00:50Around 120 of our teachers are confirmed to be safe.
00:55They are currently being held in schools, not just in schools, but even in the homes of the parents of their students.
01:05Of the four Filipinos, this is called unaccounted for.
01:09So we cannot confirm this yet.
01:12But we've been trying our best since Friday night when it happened to look for them.
01:18In fact, as we speak, two hours ago, we already sent an advance team, a five-person advance team,
01:26two consuls, and our defense attache is also there to make an on-the-ground assessment and welfare check for the Filipinos,
01:36particularly the four.
01:37So we will not give up until we know their situation and whereabouts.
01:44We cannot confirm this yet because there are a lot of news, so it's hard to confirm this now.
01:48But we have area coordinators and local contacts in Mandalay to ascertain the status of the four unaccounted for.
01:57That's how we describe them, Filipinos.
02:00Our hearts and prayers go out to the affected families.
02:03Sir Rafi, thank you.
02:05How about you in Embada?
02:06What is your experience in Lindol?
02:08Did you hurt anyone?
02:09How is your home?
02:10Although, of course, you are in Yangon, the epicenter of Lindol is closer to Mandalay.
02:16Thank you very much, Rafi, for checking in on us.
02:19All of the personnel in Embada are safe.
02:22Almost 200 Filipinos here in Yangon are marked safe.
02:29In fact, I met a lot of them at St. Augustine Church after the mass and they are all okay.
02:36In Embada, we have a 100-year-old chancery.
02:41It's a colonial house.
02:42It looks like it's okay.
02:44We didn't see any cracks.
02:45We are constantly contacting our Filipino community.
02:49Almost 800 of them, we have area coordinators to ascertain their situation.
02:56But thank you, we are safe here.
02:57Thank you very much.
02:58That's good to hear.
03:00We understand that by April 1, tomorrow, the rescue team will go there.
03:11Is there a coordination with you?
03:13The rescue team of the Filipinos will go there?
03:16We have an inter-agency meeting led by the Office of Civil Defense.
03:20For the questions, we just went directly to the Office of Civil Defense spokesperson.
03:26But in fact, we have an emergency meeting later in the afternoon.
03:29We are involved in the preparations, especially in coordinating with NEPIDO, the capital.
03:37And of course, later tonight, in fact, regarding what's happening now,
03:44there are three advance teams from Manila, two doctors, I understand, from the Department of Health,
03:50and one Office of Civil Defense personnel.
03:53They will join the assessment team, the so-called ERAT.
03:58We will escort them to the airport later.
04:00We are doing everything we can to find out what happened to the four Filipinos unaccounted for.
04:08Would you recommend that the Filipinos' relatives go to Myanmar?
04:12They are missing because this is the plan of others.
04:15They will consult the residents of Manila.
04:20That's why we are sending five-person advance teams since this morning.
04:25Traveling here is not fun because the roads are bad and the communication is difficult.
04:29They will travel for 15 hours by land and the roads are not good.
04:35So by then, they will be there and they will tell us what happened.
04:39They will go to the site in Sky Villa and consult our area coordinators
04:45to find out what's happening.
04:47We will also bring supplies for our countrymen in Mandalay.
04:52I just want to clarify what you said earlier.
04:54We don't know where the four missing Filipinos are.
04:57Can they be outside the house?
05:00Can they not be contacted?
05:02Or are they sure that they are inside the house?
05:05It's possible because there are other Filipinos, according to our area coordinators,
05:09because of all the Filipinos registered or working in Myanmar,
05:14we register them in Embahada.
05:17We have about almost 800 in the registered list.
05:21There are Filipino survivors in Myanmar who are not registered but they declare themselves as safe.
05:28So it's possible that they are safe.
05:31That's why it's hard for us to speculate.
05:33That's why we can't confirm unless our advance team has already confirmed.
05:38We are praying earnestly that our countrymen will be safe.
05:43Of course, there are Filipino victims of human trafficking in Jensen, Myanmar.
05:46They are one of your winner workouts.
05:48How are they?
05:51Well, this alleged human trafficking victim, as you know,
05:57we successfully repatriated 206.
06:00This was led by the Department of Foreign Affairs
06:02under the Office of the Undersecretary for Migration Affairs.
06:05Under the assistance of the Embahada of Yangon, the Philippines of Yangon, and Bangkok,
06:10and of course, the DMW and the Office of the Police,
06:13we successfully repatriated 206.
06:17It doesn't make sense.
06:19Just because we have an emergency now, we will let it go.
06:23We're still in touch with the authorities.
06:26But it's hard to communicate with the Nepedo.
06:29We're not letting this issue go.
06:32It's better for us to consult with the Office of the Undersecretary for Migration Affairs in DFA.
06:38It's good news.
06:39The Nepedo is a bit far from the center of the earthquake,
06:44the Kabisera of Myanmar.
06:46They don't have the areas where the so-called scammers are located.
06:51None of the six are called under the state of emergency.
06:55And that's good to hear.
06:56Yes.
06:57Let's wait for the arrival of the Filipino rescuers in Myanmar.
07:00Thank you for your time.
07:01Thank you, Rafi, and to all of our viewers.
07:05Thank you, too, Camiel.
07:06Thank you, Sir J. D. Affairs, the Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar.
