00:00Every year, a tafiz center called Maha Tafiz Mandarin Pulau Ketam organizes a big Hari
00:15Raya celebration with the community of the island, who are predominantly Chinese.
00:20Sumaya says seeing the community enjoying Hari Raya favorites such as rendang, lemang
00:38and ketupat brings her great happiness.
00:57Pulau Ketam, an island off the coast of Port Klang, is dotted with houses perched on stilts.
01:04Bicycles and not cars are the primary mode of transportation here.
01:09Yet on the small island where time seems to have stood still, it is heartwarming to see
01:15how residents of different races live harmoniously together.
01:46Cha Keng Lee estimates the island's population to be around 6,000 today, with 50 Muslims
01:52among them.
02:11He estimates that fewer than 10 Chinese Muslims remain today, as many have passed away or
02:17relocated.
02:18A quaint site on the island is the Balai Islam Pulau Ketam where the Muslim community
02:26gathers for prayers.
02:29After breaking their fast, the tafiz center's students walk together to join others for
02:34prayers at the Balai Islam.
02:39Since living among the Chinese, Sumaya shares that she has come to understand what makes
02:44them unique, including their way of praying and celebrating festivals like Chinese New
02:49Year and Cap Gomey.
