00:00Hey guys, how we doing? Please, at ease. At ease. Good lord. Sit down and eat. Sit down and eat.
00:04Don't let the vice president stop you guys from getting your chow here. How we doing?
00:09It's cold as shit here. Nobody told me.
00:13President Trump, as he says all the time and as a lot of people recognize,
00:17is a president of peace. We want to have good relationships with everybody. That includes even,
00:22to the extent possible, the Chinese and the Russians. But part of having good relations
00:27is showing your strength when you have to. What we think is going to happen
00:31is that the Greenlanders are going to choose, through self-determination,
00:35to become independent of Denmark. And then we're going to have conversations
00:39with the people of Greenland from there.
01:27Hey everybody, at ease please. Thank you all. Good to see everybody. Let's have a seat and
01:51have a briefing and learn exactly what you do here, Colonel. I will say that the Colonel was
01:57kind enough to lend me her office for a few minutes so I could get my bearings.
02:06So it turns out that Colonel Myers here did the polar bear plunge.
02:12You could also do it at the waterfall and a few other places. And for it,
02:15you get a certificate for your stupidity. So to get the certificate, how long do you have
02:19to stay in? You just have to go in. You have to go all in. You have to go all in. All in.
02:23Okay. Yeah. Man, you guys are tough up here. It's awesome.
02:26All right. Ladies and gentlemen,
02:28please welcome the Vice President of the United States, J.D. Banks.
02:40Now President Trump, as he says all the time and as a lot of people recognize,
02:44is a president of peace. We want to have good relationships with everybody. That includes even
02:49to the extent possible the Chinese and the Russians. But part of having good relations
02:54is showing your strength when you have to. And unfortunately, the story of Greenland over the
03:00past 20 years when it comes to security is that we've underinvested in the infrastructure,
03:05we've underinvested in the security architecture, and we've underinvested in the brave men and women
03:11who are doing a very hard job, as Mike said, to keep all of us safe. That has to change.
03:17Who I joked earlier, I told Mike I'd give him a ride to Utah and we ended up in Greenland.
03:23Now, when I pointed out a couple of weeks ago that in some ways, with all due respect to our
03:29Danish allies, they had not kept pace, there was a lot of criticism from Denmark, a lot of
03:34attacks at the Trump administration, at the president, at me, at others in our administration
03:39for saying the obvious, which is that Denmark hasn't done a good job at keeping Greenland safe.
03:45And one of the things I heard was, well, what about the many Danes who lost their lives in
03:50the war on terror fighting alongside the United States? Well, look, we obviously honor the
03:55sacrifice of our Danish friends in the war on terror 20 years ago, just as, for example,
04:01the French honor the sacrifice of Americans in Normandy 80 years ago. But recognizing that there
04:08are important security partnerships in the past does not mean that we can't have disagreements
04:14with allies in the present about how to preserve our shared security for the future. And that's
04:19what this is about. There is no amount of bullying, no amount of obfuscating, no amount of
04:25confusing the issue. Our message to Denmark is very simple. You have not done a good job by the
04:32people of Greenland. You have under-invested in the people of Greenland and you have under-invested
04:36in the security architecture of this incredible, beautiful landmass filled with incredible people.
04:42That has to change. And because it hasn't changed, this is why President Trump's policy
04:47in Greenland is what it is. It's consistent with the first Trump administration, where you saw
04:52significant investments in Arctic security, and it will continue over the next four years under
04:57President Trump's leadership. And let me finally, before I kick it over to the media, make one
05:01comment about the people of Greenland. The colonel here, the base commander who came here first as a
05:08second lieutenant, and I guess, colonel, this is your second duty station here, and we're proud of
05:13you and proud of all of you guys who are serving and helping keep us safe. You know, I heard a lot
05:18about the respect that our American troops show for the local Greenlandic population, the way that
05:24we make and create shelter for hunters and dog sledders, the way that we found ways to turn over
05:31traditional tribal land to some of the local populations in order to ensure that they're
05:36able to live in accordance with their values. We respect, as the president said in his State
05:41of the Union address, we respect the self-determination of Greenlanders. We believe
05:48in the self-determination of the population of the people of Greenland. And our argument is very
05:54simple. It is not with the people of Greenland, who I think are incredible and have an incredible
06:00opportunity here. Our argument really is with the leadership of Denmark, which is underinvested in
06:07Greenland and underinvested in its security architecture. That simply must change. It is
06:11the policy of the United States that that will change, and I'm proud to be able to stand here
06:16with so many brave Americans to better understand the security mission and better understand what
06:20you guys do each and every day. For that, I'm grateful. For your service, I'm even more grateful.
06:25I love you guys. I'm proud of you guys. And President Trump stands behind you and will for
06:30the remainder of his administration. Very simple. You have not done a good job by the people of
06:36Greenland. You have underinvested in the people of Greenland, and you have underinvested in the
06:40security architecture of this incredible, beautiful landmass filled with incredible people.
06:46That has to change. What we think is going to happen is that the Greenlanders are going to
06:51choose, through self-determination, to become independent of Denmark, and then we're going to
06:55have conversations with the people of Greenland from there. So I think that talking about anything
07:01too far in the future is way too premature. We do not think that military force is ever going to be
07:08necessary. We think this makes sense. And because we think the people of Greenland are rational and
07:13good, we think we're going to be able to cut a deal, Donald Trump style, to ensure the security
07:18of this territory, but also the United States of America. This territory, Greenland, really matters
07:25for the security of the United States. It's extremely vulnerable right now. And if the people
07:30of Greenland were willing to partner with the United States, and I think that they ultimately
07:34will partner with the United States, we could make them much more secure. We could do a lot
07:39more protection. And I think they'd fare a lot better economically as well. This has to happen.
07:45And the reason it has to happen, I hate to say it, is because our friends in Denmark have not
07:50done their job in keeping this area safe. They just haven't done it. It's very simple. For all
07:57of our friends in the American media who attack the administration for pointing out the obvious,
08:03what is the alternative? To give up the North Atlantic, to give up the Arctic, to China,
08:09to Russia, and to other regimes that don't have the best interests of the American people at heart?
08:14We have no other option. We need to take a significant position in Greenland to keep the
08:20people here safe, but to keep our own country safe too. But I did want to ask, did you express
08:25your concerns to the president that you were opposed to the Houthi strike? And also, what
08:31did you mean when you said in that thread that the president wasn't aware that his directions for
08:36Yemen were inconsistent with his message on Europe? Well, I didn't quite say that. I think
08:42that's a slight misunderstanding of what I said. But we've talked, of course, in the American media
08:47about Signalgate, as I called it, for the past week. And here's what I told the president and
08:52the entire national security team, is that yes, it is in the interest of the United States of
08:57America to preserve navigation. Yes, it is in the interest of the United States to kill terrorists
09:03who are preventing navigation in the Red Sea. But we've got to make sure that we do it right. We
09:08have to be careful. We have to make sure the timing is right. And of course, what that leak
09:12revealed, I think, is a private communication between the president's senior advisors about
09:17how best to prepare the American people for what we all thought we had to do, about the right timing
09:23of when we should do something, and of course, surfacing the strategic questions that we needed
09:27to decide and brief the president on so that he could ultimately make the decision about what we
09:32would do. What I saw in that signal chat, and of course, what I've seen in the president's senior
09:36national security team, is that sometimes we all agree and sometimes we all disagree,
09:41but it's important that we all have an honest conversation amongst ourselves and with the
09:46president of the United States about what we think is the best interest of the national security
09:50of the United States of America. I support the president's decision to strike the Houthis.
09:56I always supported the president's decision to strike the Houthis, and I support the national
10:00security team having the argument about how best to serve the American people.
10:19Hey guys, how we doing? Please, at ease. At ease. Good lord. Sit down and eat. Sit down and eat.
10:24Don't let the vice president stop you guys from eating your chow here. How we doing?
10:28It's cold as shit here. Nobody told me. Well, thank you all for everything you do,
10:34and thanks for having us. So please sit down, guys. Please, please. I want you to eat your food.
10:38Usha and I are thrilled to be here. It's a really beautiful flight, actually. You fly over some
10:43pretty cool spots. I've never been to Greenland. Apparently, I'm the first vice president to ever
10:47visit Greenland, so that's a pretty cool thing. But we're looking forward to hanging out and
10:52getting to know you guys and understanding what you do. So what do we have? So we're going to,
10:57Mike, we're going to talk to the command and some of the guardians about what exactly the base does
11:02and all the important ways it contributes to national security. We're going to get a briefing,
11:06of course, about what you guys do every day. And then we're going to talk just about, as you've
11:11heard, we have some interest in Greenland from the Trump administration. So we're going to talk
11:15a little bit about that with our friends in the media. But I just want to say thank you all.
11:20Thanks for having us, and thanks for being here. Thanks for doing what you do. The colonel told me
11:25that this is a one-year unaccompanied duty station. When we were flying in, we were wondering whether
11:29you guys were allowed to bring your families here. So I know it's a lot of sacrifice to spend a year
11:34away from your families, but the mission is really important. The Trump administration,
11:39the president is really interested in Arctic security. As you all know, it's a big issue,
11:44and it's only going to get bigger over the coming decades. So thanks for doing what you do.
11:48What's the plan here? So I thought I was serving food, but it looks like I've already gotten their
11:53food. What's the plan from here, guys? I'm sorry? Okay, we're going to get some food here too. Good,
12:00okay. All right, we're sitting right there? Yes, sir. Fantastic. Great. Thank you all for having us.
12:05Thank you all for having us.
12:12Hey guys, how's it going?
12:16Good. Hey guys, how we doing? Please, eat, eat, seriously. So where's everybody from?
12:25Texas. Texas, okay.
13:55So
14:15don't miss out. Log on to OneIndia.com for more updates.
