Kilauea ejects fountains of lava reaching up to 180 meters high

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory says on March 27, 2025 that the ongoing eruption from Kilauea volcano in Hawaii is ejecting lava fountains that have reached heights exceeding 600 feet (180 meters). In a statement, the US Geological Survey said the eruption, which resumed on March 25, 2025 has featured cyclic lava spatter and flows. This episode was preceded by more than 100 cycles of lava rise and fall, vent overflows, and spatter fountains in the north vent, a process known as 'gas pistoning.'
