00:00Ramadan is a sacred month for our Muslim brothers and sisters for prayer and devotion.
00:06And on Monday, we celebrate the end of a month of Ramadan
00:10where our Muslim brothers and sisters also do different activities.
00:14We will talk about that with Imam Benhar Asti Sawadi of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.
00:21Assalamualaikum, Sir.
00:22Walaikum Assalam. Good afternoon.
00:25I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the accursed. In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
00:29All praise is due to Allah. Peace and blessings be upon His Messenger and upon his family.
00:34Assalamualaikum, brothers and sisters in Islam.
00:40Good afternoon to all.
00:42On behalf of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos,
00:46under the leadership of our honorable Secretary, Sabuddin Abdur Rahim,
00:52we will now discuss the topic of Eid al-Fitr.
00:58We would like to thank you for inviting us here.
01:03We are excited to talk about one of the most important days for Muslims.
01:10Sir, how do our Muslim brothers and sisters celebrate the end of a month-long Ramadan or Eid al-Fitr?
01:17First, for everyone's information, there are two festivals or Eid al-Fitr for Muslims.
01:26The first is Eid al-Fitr, which is the end of the month of Ramadan.
01:30And the second is Eid al-Adha, the festival of sacrifice.
01:34It is held whenever Muslims go to Makkah for pilgrimage.
01:40Now, the Eid al-Fitr, as the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, said,
01:48If you see the crescent of the moon, on the first day of Ramadan, you should fast.
02:06And if you see the crescent of the moon on the next day of Ramadan, which is Shawwal,
02:12on the Hijri calendar, you should break your fast.
02:14So now, it is the 27th day of fasting.
02:19And on Sunday, it is the 29th day of Ramadan.
02:23Our moon sighting will be held on Sunday afternoon.
02:26Earlier, you mentioned that Eid al-Fitr will be held on Monday.
02:31Now, if you see the crescent of the moon on Sunday afternoon, which is Shawwal,
02:40on Monday, Eid al-Fitr will be held.
02:44But if you don't see it on Sunday, as the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said,
02:50if you don't see the crescent of the moon because it is dark,
02:53you should fast for 30 days, which is on Tuesday, Eid al-Fitr will be held.
02:57So, how do we celebrate this?
03:00Physically, we pray together, we visit each other, we give charity,
03:08and spiritually, we do good deeds.
03:16Has the commission prepared any activities in relation to that?
03:22For the first time in history, under the leadership of our good Secretary,
03:27our Secretary will lead the prayer of Eid al-Fitr,
03:35this Eid al-Fitr 2025, in Nagaganapin, Saloneta.
03:40So, we should expect a big celebration.
03:44Yes.
03:45Sir, what are the things that are prohibited to our Muslim brothers during Ramadan?
03:50There are two things that are prohibited.
03:54First, it is halal, it is allowed, but it is prohibited during Ramadan,
03:59which is like eating, drinking, or visiting your wife during fasting, in the morning.
04:04The second prohibition is that it is also prohibited outside of Ramadan.
04:09It includes doing bad things, lying, cheating, or doing anything bad.
04:16So, during Ramadan, we burn this, not just the burning calories.
04:27That is why it is said that fasting is not just burning calories,
04:32fasting is burning ego, pride, and sins.
04:36So, these are the things that are prohibited to us during Ramadan.
04:41Is there anything exempted in fasting, sir?
04:44Exempted?
04:45Exempted?
04:46There are exempted, like what was mentioned by the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him,
04:52for example, pregnant women who are afraid that something will happen to their baby,
04:57or those who are breastfeeding,
04:59including the elderly who can no longer fast,
05:03and including those who have diseases that they cannot fast.
05:12What about the children? How many years are they required?
05:16Yes, for the children, if they have not reached the right age,
05:21they are not required, nor is it obligatory for them.
05:24If they want to try, it can be done as a practice.
05:27But usually, how many years is that?
05:30For the women, when she is already pregnant,
05:36and for the men, within 15 years old.
05:43Sir, what is our collaboration with Indonesia in this regard?
05:48So, what is the objective of this? Is it a joint celebration?
05:52In our collaboration with Indonesia,
06:00first of all, we want to expand the collaboration or relationship,
06:16not only in Indonesia, but also in other Muslim countries,
06:20especially in education, specifically in Islamic education.
06:27So, it is not only related to AIDS, but it is a broader issue?
06:33Yes, it is a broader issue.
06:36Sir, lastly, what is your message to our Muslim brothers and sisters in Bukit Tir?
06:40Now, to my Muslim brothers and sisters, let us remember the purpose of Ramadan.
06:48It is not only about enduring hunger and thirst.
06:53It is also about removing the bad deeds.
06:58This is what we were commanded to do, why we were given Ramadan,
07:01and why Allah Almighty accepted our sacrifices in this month.
07:10So, Alhamdulillah, thank you very much for inviting us here.
07:16Thank you, Imam Minhar Asti Sawadi of the National Commission of Muslim Filipinos.
07:21Thank you, sir.
