00:00Strengthening the partnership, particularly in defense.

00:03That is what President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth agreed on.

00:10In a courtesy call of the U.S. official to the President earlier,

00:13he praised the Philippines' commitment to the advancement of its sovereignty,

00:18particularly in the West Philippine Sea.

00:21According to Hegseth,

00:22the message also reached U.S. President Donald Trump

00:26that the alliance, friendship, and cooperation of the Philippines and the U.S. should continue.

00:32The President also emphasized the importance of the visit of the U.S. Defense Chief to the country,

00:38which is a message of stronger cooperation and partnership between the United States and the Philippines.

00:45This is part of Hegseth's first official visit to Asia or the Asia-Pacific as a defense chief.

00:52Aside from the Philippines, the U.S. official will also visit Japan, Hawaii, and Guam.

01:23And I know that the work that we will do in the time that you have here, brief as it is,

01:28in the time that you have here in the Philippines,

01:31will be extremely productive and very, very important for us as we chart our way into the future,

01:39considering how complicated geopolitics has become.

01:44And he and I both want to express the ironclad commitment we have

01:50to the mutual defense treaty and to the partnership,

01:54economically, militarily, which our staffs have worked on diligently for weeks and weeks and months.

02:01There is a very real reason why our first trip and our first visit is here to visit you in your great country.
