00:00My fellow Australians, this morning I visited the Governor-General and Her Excellency has
00:06accepted my advice that an election be held on Saturday, 3 May 2025.
00:13Over the last few years, the world has thrown a lot at Australia.
00:19In uncertain times, we cannot decide the challenges that we will face, but we can determine how
00:25we respond.
00:27Our Government has chosen to face global challenges the Australian way, helping people under cost
00:35of living pressure, while building for the future.
00:40Because of the strength and resilience that our people have shown, Australia is turning
00:46the corner.
00:48Now on 3 May, you choose the way forward.
00:53Your vote has never been more important, and your choice has never been more clear.
01:01This election is a choice between Labor's plan to keep building or Peter Dutton's promise
01:07to cut.
01:09That is the choice.
01:12That is your choice.
01:14Your job, your wages, your child's education, and importantly as well, this thing here,
01:24your Medicare card, they're all in your hands.
01:30Because only Labor has the plan to make you better off over the next three years.
01:37Only Labor is acting on the cost of living.
01:40Only a vote for Labor will keep your wages growing.
01:43And cut taxes again and again for every taxpayer next year and the year after.
01:52Our top up tax cuts will mean an average tax cut of more than $2,500.
02:01And only a vote for Labor is a vote for stronger Medicare, the biggest ever investment in bulk
02:07billing for all Australians, so you can see a GP for free wherever you live.
02:13Cheaper medicines, capping the cost of a PBS script to no more than $25, the same price
02:21that it was back in 2004.
02:25Freezing the cost for pensioners and concession card holders to just $7.70 right to the end
02:32of the decade.
02:3450 new Medicare urgent care clinics on top of the 87 we've already got up and running.
02:43Labor's positive plan means taking another $150 off your power bill.
02:49Better and cheaper childcare for every family and fair funding for every school, public
02:57and private.
03:00Creating free TAFE, permanent.
03:02Creating greater opportunity for women, not as an add-on or an afterthought, but as a
03:08fundamental economic and social priority.
03:13Building Australia's future is about training more tradies to build more homes and helping
03:19more young Australians to buy a home.
03:23Meeting the challenge of climate change by seizing the opportunity of renewable energy
03:29and the transition.
03:31Building Australia's defence and security and rebuilding our relationships to keep us
03:36safe at home, secure in our region and respected in the world.
03:42And at a time where it's never been more important for Australia to stand on our own two feet,
03:48only Labor is building an economy where we make more things here.
03:52An economy defined by fair wages for hard work, where people earn more and keep more
03:59of what they earn.
04:01The biggest risk to all of this is not what's happening elsewhere in the world.
04:06The biggest risk to Australia's future going back to the failures of the past, the tax
04:13increases and cuts to services that Peter Dutton and the Liberal Party want to lock in.
04:20Australians remember what that looks like.
04:23Less than three years ago, the chaotic and dysfunctional Morrison government left bulk
04:29billing in freefall, aged care in crisis and the NDIS at breaking point.
04:36A decade of the Liberals keeping wages low, sending jobs offshore and fighting about climate
04:42change left our nation open to the worst global inflation since the 1980s and the biggest
04:49global energy crisis since the 1970s.
04:54As I said at the time, it was always going to take more than three years to clean up
05:0010 years of mess.
05:03Today, because of all the hard work that Australians have done, inflation is down, real wages are
05:10up, unemployment is low, interest rates are falling and we're cutting taxpayers for every
05:17taxpayer again.
05:20In challenging times, we have laid very strong foundations.
05:25We want to keep building.
05:26The Liberals and Nationals just want to start cutting.
05:29Over the past three years, they have opposed everything we have done to help people with
05:35the cost of living.
05:37If the Liberals had their way, you and your family would be worse off right now.
05:41And if they get their way, you will be worse off in the future.
05:46The Liberals are promising to increase income tax for all 14 million Australian taxpayers.
05:53And because Peter Dutton needs to find $600 billion to pay for nuclear reactors, it will
05:59provide 4 per cent of Australia's energy needs sometime in the 2040s.
06:04That money has to come from somewhere.
06:07Everything in Peter Dutton's record tells us that he will start by cutting Medicare
06:13and he won't stop there.
06:15He will cut everything except your taxes.
06:19No one will get any power from the Liberals' nuclear reactors for two decades, but every
06:26Australian will get the bill right away.
06:29Because when Peter Dutton cuts, Australians pay.
06:34My fellow Australians, we live in the greatest country on earth and we do not need to copy
06:42from any other nation to make Australia even better and stronger.
06:48We only need to trust in our values and back our people.
06:53From our farmers and small business owners, to our teachers and nurses.
06:58From people who belong to the world's oldest continuous culture, to those who have chosen
07:04to make Australia their home and have enriched our multicultural society with their love
07:10of this country.
07:12To young Australians voting in their first election, the very best reason to be optimistic
07:18for our nation remains the courage, kindness and aspiration of all Australians.
07:26Serving you as Prime Minister is the greatest honour of my life.
07:32And what drives me each and every day is the determination to build a future worthy of
07:40the people of Australia.
07:43The world today is an uncertain place, but I am absolutely certain of this.
07:52Now is not the time for cutting and wrecking, for aiming low, punching down or looking back.
08:01This is a time for building.
08:05Building on our nation's strengths, building our security and prosperity for ourselves.
08:11Building an Australia where no one is held back and no one is left behind.
08:18At this election, I am asking for the support of the Australian people to keep building
08:24on the hard work that we have done and the strong foundations that we have laid.
08:30I am asking you to vote Labor so we can keep building Australia's future together.
