Ryan Roberts discusses which Stanford Cardinal players the Notre Dame Fighting Irish should pursue should they enter the transfer portal.
Transcript
00:00Stanford football said goodbye to head coach Troy Taylor in the age of the transfer portal. That means
00:05some talent could be entering very shortly. Let's talk about four players that I think
00:09Notre Dame football should keep a close eye on if they do indeed. And
00:15Ryan Roberts from A to Z sports bring down everything Notre Dame football folks in the
00:19age of the transfer portal. Anytime we see a coaching change, which you saw obviously for
00:23Stanford Cardinal this this week, they let go of Troy Taylor. That means that you're in threat
00:29of losing some talent to the transfer portal. It's obviously very easy and accessible for
00:33players to now find new homes. So I want to talk about four players that I think Notre Dame
00:37should keep a close eye on if they do intend to transfer and find a new home. I want to start
00:42out on the edge, David Bailey, who's a senior six foot three, 250 pounds, 14 and a half sacks in his
00:49career, over 20 tackles for loss. This is a player that I think Notre Dame fans are pretty familiar
00:53with. Obviously they've played Stanford over the last couple of years and he has been a stalwart
00:57and one of the best defensive players that Stanford has had over the last few years on.
01:01This is a NFL talented defensive ends and edge player. And I do think that although
01:08when you look at Notre Dame's roster, you say Notre Dame is pretty loaded at defensive end,
01:12especially if Boobacar Traore and Jordan Patel will get back to full health from their season
01:16and the injuries. There is a little bit of depth concerns if they do not get back.
01:21And ultimately you can never have enough good pass rushers in the modern age of
01:25college and NFL football, the space game, the passing game, having guys that affect the
01:30quarterback are so, so important. So I would definitely kick the tires of David Bailey if
01:35he chose to enter the transfer portal. You know, what's better than Boobacar Traore and Bryce Young
01:40and Jordan Patel and Joshua Burnham, all four of those guys with David Bailey also on obviously
01:46passing situations. It's a one-year rental, a one-year talent until he's off to the NFL
01:50and could be an interesting player to use on passing downs. I want to go to one that is
01:55going to be probably less likely, but an interesting one. Emmett Mosley, the fifth,
02:00obviously he's a double legacy. We've talked about him a ton on this channel. And then
02:04obviously my writing at A to Z sports father, Emmett Mosley played wide receiver at Notre Dame
02:10mother, Cynthia Dawes, now Cynthia Mosley was a great soccer player at Notre Dame.
02:15So this is a double legacy, but in the 2024 recruiting class, Emmett just wasn't overly
02:21interested in Notre Dame. Obviously chose to go to Stanford this time around. Could things be
02:26different? Not a hundred percent sure, but all I know is the show man had 40 plus catches last
02:29year over 500 yards. He's a talented wide receiver and Notre Dame just fell one wide
02:35receiver number short in 2025 wide receiver recruiting. They wanted four, they got three.
02:41You add a player with three years of eligibility, like an Emmett Mosley to mix into that room.
02:45Pretty interesting possibility. At tight end, they have a very talented and productive one.
02:50And Sam Roush, who actually six or five, 260 pounds, 68 receptions the last two years for
02:57Stanford, big body, physical has played in line. They've asked him to do a lot of different things
03:03over the last couple of years. Specifically. I don't think that Sam Roush would come into
03:07Notre Dame year one and be a difference maker, be tight end one for this team. I still think
03:12that would be Eli Raritan in 2025, but here's the issue that you have at tight end. Eli Raritan has
03:18his past injuries. Cooper Flanagan, who would have fought to be tight end one in this offense
03:22had an Achilles injury down the stretch of the season. Nobody knows exactly what his timetable
03:26is of a return. If he was even going to have a possibility to return in 2025, nobody knows that
03:32for sure. You also have Ty Washington and James Flanagan on this roster, but neither of those
03:37players are going to be here until the summer that leaves right now. Kevin Bowman injury issues
03:42talked about Eli Raritan, and then you have a redshirt freshman in Jack Larson. That's not
03:47great depth, to say the least, at the tight end position. Someone like Roush could come in
03:51immediately and at least provide a big body as a tight end two. Very interesting potential to mix
03:57with Eli Raritan. Last guy I want to talk about if he does choose to enter the transfer portal.
04:02Kind of an off-the-wall one. Tiger Bachmeier, and I think a lot of people will remember the
04:06name Bear Bachmeier. He was a 2025 quarterback recruit that Notre Dame liked a lot along with
04:11Deuce Knight early on in the process. He ended up at Stanford as well. I'm very interested in his
04:15brother Tiger, who's two years older than him, so he's going to be a true junior this year.
04:21Had a really nice freshman year. Over 30 receptions, over 400 yards, showcased himself and
04:26showed that he has a lot of talent. But this past year he just wasn't overly productive at wide
04:31receiver and he didn't take that next step. But the reason that I'm interested in Tiger is one,
04:35he has two years of eligibility, so there's still developmental upset at wide receiver,
04:38but he was also the team's main punt returner last year and averaged over 12 yards per punt
04:42and had a punt return for a touchdown. Who was Notre Dame's punt returner in the 2025 season?
04:48No one really knows. Maybe it's a Jordan Faison, maybe it's a Jaden Greathouse,
04:52but having a guy like a Tiger Bachmeier who's been a legitimately difference maker at punt
04:56returner this past year for Stanford could be an interesting one to at least up the special
05:00team's value and then maybe develop into a wide receiver. Folks, do any of these guys interest
05:05you? Who are some other players on the Stanford roster that you might look at and say, that would
05:09be a really interesting player for Notre Dame to kick the tires for? We're going to cover spring
05:13practice, fall camp, 2025 season, everything in between. Make sure you like and subscribe
05:19to the channel and as always, Go Irish!
