00:00There's been another change to your role here this year, you're going to be the white ball
00:13captain for Yorkshire, you've captained before at Middlesex as everyone knows, how does that
00:18feel?
00:19Yeah great.
00:20How did it come about?
00:21Massive honour, really proud obviously to be appointed captain of any team at Yorkshire
00:27When Anthony McGrath sat down and spoke to me and said he's the coach and told me his
00:33plans for stuff moving forward, he said Sian Masood wasn't coming back again, he'd been
00:40fantastic as captain the last year, and I said well look if that's the case I think
00:44the time's right for me in T20 cricket, if you think I'm the right man I'd love to be
00:48able to help Yorkshire and be able to give my knowledge to the boys and he said he'd
00:54go and speak to a couple of the lads around and the feedback from the boys that he spoke
00:58to was that I'm the person to captain and he stuck by that decision so that's great
01:03for myself and the guys that he spoke to around the team were very complimentary of me, for
01:07how long I don't know, but they were complimentary and they pushed my name forward which is a
01:12better feeling than just coming from one man and putting you as captain.
01:17What kind of captain are you would you say?
01:20It's a very tricky one because I haven't done it for so long but I'm someone who believes
01:26in playing what's in front of you, I believe in not talking too much, I'm not a big believer
01:31in over-talking, I think we all know what we want to do and there's coaches there to
01:36be able to help and communicate when it's needed. I'm very tactical on the field, it's
01:43a bit like a bat, I'm always trying to find the right time to go and I really enjoy that
01:48side of the game and I guess the same will be when a captain is trying to find ways to
01:51positively influence the game with the decisions that I make and I'm going to make a lot of
01:55bad decisions and hopefully I can make some better decisions than I do the bad ones but
02:01it's always trying to find ways to positively influence the game with the decisions you
02:05make and I guess that's the way I like to go about it.
02:08You mentioned Johnny Bairstow, you're going to be Red Bull captain, you know him well
02:10obviously both through here and the England set-up over the years, what kind of captain
02:14do you think he'll make?
02:15I'm going to bring my earplugs with me! No, I'm joking! Look, Johnny's a great player
02:20and he's been fantastic and he's been through a pretty tough time the last little bit with
02:24his England stuff and I think it's a great challenge for him to have his eye on something
02:28bigger than thinking about where he wants to be and where he can be and I think he'll
02:32get there by focusing on the captaincy and I think he'll bring the best out of him,
02:37you know, he always stands up to challenges and finds ways to get there and hopefully
02:41he can find the best out of him as a captain.
