00:46And on behalf of the Dominican people, we have just handed over to our beloved and admired Zoe Saldana

00:53the condecoration of the Order of Cristobal Colón in the rank of Commander.

00:59This distinction, Zoe, created by the National Congress,

01:03bears the name of the navigator who marked the beginning of the meeting between two worlds,

01:07giving rise to the history that defines us as a nation.

01:11His journey brought to this island the first institutions of the New World,

01:16consolidating us as the starting point of Spanish America.

01:21The condecoration that we give to Zoe Saldana today

01:25responds to the purpose for which it was created,

01:28recognizing the outstanding merits in the arts, sciences, and service to humanity.

01:36Zoe is an example that the Dominicans cannot.

01:41We have demonstrated this with our music,

01:44declared by the UNESCO Material Heritage of Humanity,

01:47with our plastic arts, present in the best museums in the world,

01:51with our literature, which expresses the richness of our identity,

01:55and with our cinema, which advances with firm steps both in national and international productions.

02:02We have also achieved this in tourism,

02:05where this year, 2024, we reached the record figure of more than 11 million visitors,

02:11driving investments of more than one billion dollars.

02:14But above all, we see it in our diaspora,

02:18with its effort and talent, it has conquered spaces in medicine,

02:24engineering, diplomacy, law, education, and new technologies.

02:29A testimony that, regardless of the distance,

02:32the Dominican heart always beats for its land.

02:36Dear Zoe, you have achieved an unimaginable milestone in world cinema.
