00:00Before I begin my opening statement, I would like to yield for a brief moment to the chairman of the full committee.
00:07You're recognized, sir.
00:08Thank you. Thank you very much for yielding.
00:10And I just want to set the stage for a second before we get started this morning.
00:15We have a witness at our table today that has received a death threat that I listened to the voicemail.
00:22Someone said he was a left-wing anarchist, and you're here.
00:26People, if they want to listen to it on the committee, they're welcome to.
00:29Left-wing anarchists, and you're testifying before Nazis today, and so you received a death threat for that.
00:36We have our finest on Capitol Hill here with us today.
00:39Our police officers in the room. It's not typical.
00:42We're going to make sure this is a safe hearing room.
00:46We're going to make sure we have a very important discussion in front of us today.
00:50I talked to a mother yesterday, someone who's going to share, that lost her son two weeks ago to suicide because of what was going on to him online.
00:58This is a very serious topic.
01:00Most of the bills before us are bipartisan, and I think all of them are actually.
01:05And it's an issue we all want to address, but we need to make sure we do it in the right tone.
01:10And I know my good friend, who's the chairman, is going to make sure this committee does it in the right tone today.
01:15And I appreciate our officers being here.
01:18And I apologize for the witnesses for what you had to go through because you're here to testify for protecting our children.
01:24I know there's been other things as well, and we just want to apologize for what you've had to go through.
01:30We know you do, and I've been to the Center for Missing Children, and what you deal with every day and what you have to deal with is just disturbing.
01:39But I walked away going, well, I couldn't do that every day, but I'm so happy there are people that are,
01:45because you're there protecting our children and what you see and do every day and what you have to see what our children go through.
01:52And it's just sad. But I want to just set the tone.
01:55We're going to have a safe hearing room, and we're going to have a good hearing today.
01:58We're going to focus on the subject at hand, so I will yield back.
