00:00The one thing I can't put up with was incompetence with any franchise that I look to try to talk
00:05about, whether it's the Cleveland Browns, whether it's the Las Vegas Raiders, or now
00:08the New York Giants.
00:09And I like to preface this segment by saying, the Giants' history is one of the best in
00:14professional sports, one of the pillars of their community, which is the NFL, which dates
00:19all the way back 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 years.
00:23The reason I bring this up is, the Giants were one of those first franchises that said,
00:27for the good of the NFL, we understand we're in New York.
00:30We need revenue sharing to make this league as great as it can be.
00:33What a sacrifice by the Mara family there.
00:36Now we look forward to saying, okay, the 1980s, picked up a couple of Super Bowls there.
00:40You know, you move on into the 2000s, you get a couple with Eli Manning.
00:44It was always about Lombardis, and it was always about legendary, you know, franchise
00:49players, Lawrence Taylor, dating back just to name a few of those guys.
00:54But for me, Mark, I saw this move yesterday and said, I don't know anymore what's going
00:57on with the New York Giants and the Mara family and the Tisch family and the front office,
01:02because what they're doing now makes no sense.
01:04For me, looking at a football team, it's, what are you doing to start building a foundation
01:09that ends with a Super Bowl?
01:11The Giants used to be very good at that, which means get your quarterback, build a good defense,
01:15have a competent organization with a head coach and a general manager all working in
01:19sync.
01:20I don't see it anymore.
01:21Let me start here with you, because I know you have passionate thoughts on the New York
01:24Giants.
01:25The Giants signed Russell Wilson.
01:26When you saw that tweet come around from Adam Schefter, what did you think immediately
01:31when you saw that?
01:33Is it a spoof?
01:34Is it fake?
01:35Did somebody, you know, hack Schefter's Twitter account?
01:39Is that, is this real?
01:41That was my first thought, because I don't believe, again, when I said when the Giants
01:45signed Jameis Winston, this was an unserious move by an unserious franchise.
01:49The only thing that would indicate, and I felt like at that point in time, by signing
01:51Jameis Winston, it tipped their hand that, hey, we're drafting a quarterback, because
01:56the only reason to draft Jameis, who is not a starter in this league, is that you were
02:00going to play a rookie when drafting him with the third overall pick and let him develop,
02:05and Jameis is there as a safety net.
02:07Then you sign Russell Wilson, who at this point probably is not a starter in this league.
02:12Now what are you going to do?
02:14You have three quarters of one quarterback, a half a backup and a half a backup equals
02:20like three quarters of one quarterback, so I don't know that this team is serious about
02:24winning this year, and if you wanted to tank fine, there's a guy named Tommy DeVito on
02:29the roster.
02:30Let him go screw around for 17 games.
02:32You didn't need to do any of this stuff.
02:34Like I don't get what the direction is or what the overall goal here is.
02:38You're not serious about winning with Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson as your quarterbacks,
02:42and if you wanted to sit there and let a rookie quarterback sit for an entire year, which
02:47is also a bad idea because either he can play or he can't.
02:51We figured that out at this point in time.
02:53Why do you assign two other quarterbacks to draft another one?
02:56So this has been very haphazard, it's been very sloppy, it doesn't show intent, it doesn't
03:01show direction.
03:02This is a franchise now that officially can't get out of their own way.
03:05They've strayed away from their identity because their identity has never been flashy quarterback
03:10play.
03:11They've been on defense and running the football.
03:13No disrespect to Eli Manning, but Eli Manning was never flashy.
03:16He was very, very good, borderline Hall of Famer in my opinion, but he's never been flashy.
03:22Phil Simms was never flashy.
03:24These were guys who were good quarterbacks, did a good job of taking care of the football
03:27and never really put their teams in bad positions.
03:31What are we doing here?
03:32What are we doing?
03:33We don't have a running game, we have nobody on defense, they haven't drafted a good linebacker
03:37since Karl Banks.
03:38I don't know what this organization does anymore that leads you to believe that they are a
03:43team that is serious about winning and winning now.
