00:00Record-breaking rains in March have brought relief to Spain after a stubborn drought last
00:07year.
00:08Spain received more than double the normal amount of monthly rainfall in the first 18
00:12days of this month.
00:14That included normally arid regions like Andalusia, where floods forced hundreds to evacuate.
00:22The blessing and the cause of Spanish climate is exactly that.
00:26We have these periods of extended drought that are usually ended with these kind of
00:33situations.
00:36Having said that, the rain we had in March, especially, well, excluding the north-western,
00:43has been quite exceptional in most areas.
00:47For now, the drought that began in 2023 is over.
00:51How long water reserves remain healthy depends on how much more springtime rain Spain gets
00:57and the heat of this summer.
00:58Scientists say climate change is making the swings between dryness and downpour more acute
01:03as rising temperatures trigger extreme weather like prolonged drought and intense rainfall.
